I. Objective: Calculates the mean of grouped data ( M7SP-IVF-1.1)

KBI: Appreciates the importance of calculating the mean of grouped

data in real life situations.

II. Subject Matter:

A. Calculate the mean of grouped data
B. Learners’ Materials for Mathematics 7, pages 166-168.
C. Laptop, projector, digital flash cards and digital quiz.
D. Concept:

To calculate the mean of grouped data:

1. Find the midpoint using the formula:
𝐿𝑙 + 𝑈𝑙
2
2. Multiply the frequency and the midpoint of each class to get fx.
3. Find the summation of fx(∑(fx)).
4. Find the mean using the formula:

Where:
xis the midpoint
∑ 𝑓𝑥 fis frequency of each class interval
𝑀𝑒𝑎𝑛 =
𝑁 fx = the product of the midpoint and frequency of
each class interval
∑fx = summation of the products of the
frequency and the midpoint of each class
N is the total number of cases.
E. Local Heritage theme:
Flora and Fauna
III. Procedure:
A. Preliminary Activities
Check the assignment.
Drill
With the aid of digital flashcards, let the students identify the symbols
used in statistical data specifically in calculating the mean.

∑ N X
Motivation
1. List down the ages of your family members.
2. Find the average age of all the members?
Presentation of the Lesson
What do you think is our objective for today ?
B. Development of the Lesson
Activity
In a survey conducted by the students of G-7 students in Brgy. Sagana the
following are the ages of household members who eat malungay.

34 35 40 40 48 21 9
21 20 19 34 45 21 20
19 17 18 15 16 20 28
21 20 18 17 10 45 48
19 17 29 45 15 48 25

Complete the frequency table below

Ages Tally Frequency x Fx
46-55
36-35
26-35
16-35
6-5
∑f= ∑(fx)=

Analysis
Guide Questions
a. How many household members were interviewed?
b. How did you find the frequency of each interval?
c. How did you find the midpoint (x) of each interval?
d. What is the mean of the given data?

Abstraction
Utilize the power point presentation to discuss the concept of calculating the
mean.

Conceptualization:
1. How did you find the value of N?
2. What is the formula in finding the midpoint?
3. How did you find the Mean for grouped data?
4. What is the importance of calculating the mean of grouped data in real life
situations?

Application
Given the set of data gathered by another group of G-7 students, the following are
the ages of household members who are malnourished:

12 15 8 9 7 11 4 3 7 7
7 8 10 10 9 9 12 14 6 9
6 7 9 10 13 8 9 7 11 7

1. Construct a frequency distribution table of the given data.

2. Calculate the mean for grouped data.
IV. Evaluation
With the aid of digital quiz, let the students answer the following:
Direction: Choose the best answer.
Below are the mathematics grades of Grade 7 students in the last quarter.

Grades f x fx
