Science Project

The document describes an experiment to test if chocolate melts faster when held with a bare hand or a gloved hand. The hypothesis is that chocolate will melt faster in a bare hand, as human body temperature is higher than chocolate's melting point. The experiment involves timing how long it takes for chocolate pieces to melt when held with each hand. Over three trials, the conclusion is that the bare hand melted chocolate faster each time compared to the gloved hand.

Melting Chocolate

Question
Will chocolate melt faster when held it with bare hand or when hold it with a glove?

Background Research:
Heat makes chocolate melt faster.
The melting point of chocolate is around 34°C depending on the type of chocolate in use and the
ingredients used in the chocolate. Ingredients such as milk fat soften the product and make it less heat
resistant.
The normal human body temperature ranges between 36.1°C (97°F) to 37.2°C (99°F).

Hypothesis
The Chocolate will melt faster when held it with bare hand.

Materials:

Pieces of chocolate
Bare hand
Plain cotton glove
Timer

Procedure:
1. Place a piece of chocolate on your bare hand.
2. Close your finger around the chocolate
3. Set the timer.
4. Continue to hold the chocolate until you feel that it is melted.
5. Check every 2 minutes for melting.
6. When the chocolate shows that it is melted, stop the timer and record the results.
7. Put a glove on your hand
8. Repeat the steps 2 – 5 for the gloved hand.
9. Then, repeat steps 1 – 7 for two more trials.

Conclusion
The bare hand melted the chocolate faster than the gloved hand
