SIP Report Guidelines - 2019
SIP Report Guidelines - 2019
1.0 Introduction
Summer internship provides the students with an opportunity to work in an organization and
have a bird’s eye view of the relevance and utility of the various management theories learnt
in the class. It also potentially lands them in decision-making situations, thus forcing them
back to their books, intellect, and intuition to arrive at the best possible solution for a
problem. Thus the summer internship is an interface where theories are enlivened to action.
It is impractical to lay down specific regulations on preparation, form and content of summer
internship report. However, some general guidelines have been listed below to provide the
students with a structure to report their scholarly findings and also to bring about
institutionalization of the same.
1. Title page
2. Synopsis
3. Declaration
4. Certificate by Faculty Guide
5. Certificate by Industry Mentor
6. Acknowledgments
7. Table of contents
8. List of tables, figures and illustrations (if list items are fewer than 10 in number, this
is not necessary)
9. List of Symbols, Abbreviations and Nomenclature
10. Main text
a. Chapters (Each chapters should be with different headings/ titles)
11. Bibliography or List of References
12. Appendices (attach your questionnaire, if any, used for the survey)

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
< Times new roman 14 font, BOLD and CAPITAL>
Write briefly about…
1. The typing should be double spaced and presented in Times New Roman and must be
single sided.
2. Left and right margins should be no less than one inch and page numbers should
appear inside the margins.
3. Pages should be numbered consecutively and clearly.
(Primarily the literature review should enable the intern answer following questions; Is there
an organisation that faced the business challenge of similar nature in the past? If yes, when
and where? How did the organisation attempt to solve this problem? What does academic
literature suggest about the possible business transformation? What does the literature
suggest about the investigation of the problem, implementation of the transformation and
evaluation of the outcome?)
Separate sub-heading should be used for each topic of the literature At the end of the chapter,
summary on the review of literature should be provided.
CHAPTER 5: METHODOLOGY
In this section explain to the reader how the study was conducted. Appropriate methodology
needs to be selected to investigate the nature of the problem and to select the suitable
business transformation. Review of literature should guide the students to decide the research
design, source of data, method of data collection and data analysis techniques. The
description should mention about data collection and manipulation, data sources, analytical
procedures, models developed and used, empirical procedures and techniques, and analyses
conducted.
Clearly discuss the sampling technique and describe the sample with appropriate descriptive
statistics. Mention the assumptions undertaken and their impact on the findings of the study.
Clearly describe the process of data collection. Describe the methodology used; quantitative,
qualitative or mixed methodology.

Describe the limitations in detail and explain the reason behind each limitation. Clarify the
reasons why the data collection methods could not help you overcome the limitations.
Mention the impact of each limitation and how these limitations can help identify future
study opportunities.
Possible methodological limitations: sample size, lack of available and/or reliable data, lack
of prior research studies on the topic, measure used to collect the data, self reported data
Possible limitations of the researcher: access, cultural and other type of biases, longitudinal
effects, language,

summary of your thoughts within the context of business challenge, an elaboration on the
impact of your findings and your insight on the future of the business transformation.
In this section of the report you need to show systematically the information or ideas you
have quoted or paraphrased from other researchers’ work and identify the source of the
information as well. The American Psychological Association (APA) style referencing must
be employed and the list of references must be arranged alphabetically. Refer to the
publication manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.) to document your
sources.
11.0 Appendices
Appendices should carry the title of the work reported and the same title shall be
produced in the contents page also.
Appendices should be numbered using Arabic numerals, e.g. Appendix I, Appendix
II, etc.
Appendices, Tables and References appearing in appendices should be numbered and
referred to appropriate places just as in the case of chapters
Reports should normally be bound using thermal binding. Thermal binding must be used with
covers strong enough to resist potential damage caused by bending or knocking. Twin-ring,
spring-back and spiral binders are not acceptable, as reports bound in these ways often do not
stand the test of time.
