    THE BASECO 10 HECTARE RELCLAMATION PROJECT

    Product: MacTube, & MacTex MXC, MacTex WR & Gabion

    Problem
    The location of reclamation of land was proposed near Pasig
    River in Manila Bay for future housing development especially for
    poor people living in the area.

    The foundation consist of soft soil and the height of the embank-
    ment is proposed to be 2m from the foundation level. The struc-
    ture must also withstand the wave attack from Manila bay. Since
    the perimeter of the proposed reclamation to big, an economical
    and reliable structure is required .

    Solution
    Geotextile tube was proposed for this project because they are
    commonly used for river bank/shoreline slope protection
    against erosion due to its superior mechanical and physical
    characteristic to perform filtration and drainage functions. The
    installation of MacTube is cheaper and easier compared to
    conventional method because in most cases the existing soil Excavation Date: April 2008

    designed as river training and break water structures because
    of its ability to absorb high incoming energy

    The Maccaferri MacTube composed of high strength woven


    polyester or high strength woven polypropylene geotextile with
    100% UV stabilized yarn with high resistance against installa-
    tion damage and puncture damage.

    MacTube Advantage Compared to Conventional Method:


    • Saving riprap / boulder costs
    • Using local materials like sand, instead of concrete.
    • Easy to build, operated by non-specific equipment.
