THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Students in High School are doing their best to achieve their

goals. Not only to show that they are excellent but to make their family

proud. They are changing their parent’s sacrifices by studying well.

Before winning the victory, they face many trials, hindrances,

shortcomings and struggles including the judgement of others

because of their intelligence. It become one of their challenges

because they need to deal with others perspective. Even though they

are smart or intelligent when it comes to academic activities, they

cannot deny the fact that it has an impact to them.

Smart shaming has a negative stereotype to the smart ones.

According to Quora.com is, unfortunately, the result of the pro

ignorance stance that a lot of populations take and something that a

lot of smart people regularly have deal with it. But emotional students

are likely unable to handle it properly. The researcher wants to know

the aftermath of offensive words to the matter of living and education

of the students.

Stating facts in normal conversation, whether simple or

complicated. Giving strong opinion gets you stare from across table.

Correcting someone’s grammar gets you called are one of the worst

labels in human history. In the Philippines, being smart is somewhat

curse rather than a blessing. “Sige na, ikaw na matalino”, “Ang dami

mong alam”, “Pabibo ka masyado”. These are the common responses

of some Filipinos to thoughtful statements, insightful ideas or basically

anything they don’t have any knowledge about it. Suddenly ignorance

is bless and going with the flow is cool, last one wants to be smart-

shamed. Hence, this research could describe the experiences of high

school honor students.

Upon a closer look, as this research will explore, by focusing

specially on the experiences of the honor high school students in

smart-shaming, the relevance of shame management to an analysis

of bullying is supported by developmental literature that suggest a

relationship between shame and anger and behavior. Students who

encounter smart-shaming can find some ways to handle and face it

properly through the experiences of the interviewee.

Statement of the problem

The study aimed to describe and explore the experiences of

smart-shaming of Secondary Education students. Specifically it sought

answers to the following questions:

1. What are the experiences of with Honor High School

Students from smart-shaming?

2. Is smart-shaming affects their studies and personal life?

3. Is smart- shaming affects their social life or keep their

attention away from it?

3.1 How to encounter smart-shaming?

3.2 How to overcome smart-shaming?

Scope and Delimitation

The study focuses smart-shaming of Honor Students in

Secondary Education. The researcher will purposively choose three (3)

High School Students to be conducted in Metro Manila College.

Significance of the study

This study is intended to know the experiences of Honor Students

in Secondary Education. It aims to know what is the effects and coping

mechanism of Secondary Education Students in Smart-Shaming.

This research will serve as the guide and may benefit to the

following:

To the honor/s students, it will help them to overcome and to

know the other student’s experiences from smart-shaming.

To the students, they will be aware of the experiences of with

Honors Students from Smart-Shaming and to avoid insulting and

discriminating honor students.

To the teachers, they will have idea for the students who

encountered smart-shaming. They can give advices to the students

experienced smart-shaming.

To the school administrators, to give them awareness on how

smart-shaming affects the honor students. This may be their basis for

some activities and policies in school they will make.

To the parents, they will be more aware of the effects of smart-

To the future researchers, to cater information and knowledge
