LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 9

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson students should be able to;
 identify the sentence pattern to rearrange the given sentence ;
 write sentences using basic sentence pattern;
 recognize doing good deeds to others by reading a conversation.
II. LEARNING TASK
Topic: Basic Sentence Pattern
Reference: English Grammar pages 143-145, EN9G-Ih-17
Materials: Visual presentation, Laptop
Concept: Putting words together called basic sentence pattern.

III. SPRING BOARD AND ELICITATION

Good Morning Steve! Good Morning Tom!

Ana is beautiful today. Yes you’re right.

Also has a good attitude. Ana bakes cake for the street children.

Teacher sends Ana a letter to recognize her good deeds. I want to become like her.

Questions

1. What is the conversation all about?


2. What are the names in the underline sentence?
3. What are the connectors and object that used in the underline sentence?
4. How many Complement words used in the sentence? What are those?

IV. CONCEPT PRESENTATION


Each group will identify the basic sentence pattern.
S-LV-C (Subject – Linking Verb- Complement)

Complement complete meaning of a subject. It may be a noun or adjectives. It comes after the linking verb in
a sentence.
The following are used as linking verbs:
Is, are, am, was, were, has/have been, can/will be
Special Linking Verb
Look, feel, remain, grow, seem, sound, taste, became

Example
Ana(Subject) is(Linking Verb) a teacher(Complement)l
Emma(Subject) looks (linking Verb) beautiful(Compliment)
S-TV-DO (Subject- Transitive Verb- Direct object)
Transitive verb is a verb that requires both a subject and a direct object.
Direct Object is the receiver of the action and answers the question what.
Example:
Clara(Subject) gave(Transitive Verb) a party(Direct Object).
What did Clara give? Party

S-TV-IO-DO (Subject, Transitive verb- Indirect object- Direct Object)


Indirect Object means the person to whom the action described by the verb is performed and answers the
question to whom or for whom.
Ana(Subject) sends (Transitive verb) Mario(Indirect object) a letter(Direct Object).
What did Ana send? Letter (Direct Object) to whom? Mario (Indirect Object)

V. GUIDED PRACTICE
Students will guide in giving sentences.
S-LV-C Ana is Beautiful.
Nana seems sad.
S-TV-DO Ana bakes cake.
S-TV-IO-DO Teacher sends Ana a letter.
VI. DRILL
Students will identify if the sentence is S-LV-C, S-TV-DO or S-TV-IO-DO
1. The king was disappointed.
2. Victor looked frail and weak.
3. Clara gave a party
4. Zaira gave Emma a new dress.
5. The teacher teaches English.

What are the basic patterns?

Rearrange the sentence based on the basic sentence pattern and identify the pattern used.

7. Seems nana sad.
Write own sentences that follows the basic sentence pattern.
One sentence using S-LV-C
One sentence using S- TV- DO
One sentence using S TV-IO-DO

IX. Agreement

Create your own sentences for each pattern discussed using basic sentence pattern.
