In connection with this, to make teachers equipped with the necessary knowledge in the
field of action research, the Cluster 8 schools headed by Mr. Raul A. Cabilogan organized a
three-day seminar workshop on crafting an Action Research. The speakers are the teachers
who also attended training on Action Research in the Division Level. From April 15-17, 2019,
they shared their knowledge to the Cluster 8 teachers to at least help them solve classroom
and instructional problems.
The host school, Marilog National High School, energetically motivated the teacher-
participants as the seminar commenced. Mr. Raul A. Cabilogan, the cluster head of Cluster 8
emphasized the importance of conducting the action research to help teachers find solution to
problems that arise in school. Teachers of Lower Tamugan National High School were very
enthusiastic as they presented the energizers of the day.
The first speaker of the workshop was Mrs. Ellin C. Gamayot, Master Teacher I of Lower
Tamugan National High School. She gave emphasis on developing research questions. She
stated in her presentation the importance of having clear sets of research question because
these questions are to be answered after the conduct of the action research. Furthermore, she
also presented sample research questions that are considered to be good and not-so good.
Since there is an impression that conducting research is a very tedious job to do, Mrs.
Gamayot stressed that action research is far more different compared to the researches done in
big universities and in the graduate schosol. Hence, she presented a format that would be
easier for the teachers to understand and conduct in their respective stations. After she
presented the format, the teachers have come to a realization and were motivated to start
writing their own action research.
As the seminar begun, Dr. Emmie M. Cabanlit, one of the Innoteach trainers, arrived
and gave input regarding action research. She shared some success stories that inspired
teachers to go forth with the crafting of the action research. She was also delighted to see
teachers who were motivated and excited to start making their research.
As an activity, the teachers made three questions to kick start the action research
process. They presented their questions individually.
To sum it all up, the first day of the seminar focused on distinguishing action research
from any other researches in the field, developing research questions, and identifying problems
in the classroom that can be a potential research problem for an action research.
Day 2 – April 16, 2019
The first day of the seminar opened the minds and hearts of teachers regarding action
research. They were also successfully motivated to start their research. Hence, on the second
day of the seminar, Mrs. Flory-Ann Villarino, Master Teacher I of Marilog National High School
shared about the techniques in writing the results and discussions. From the questions
formulated the other day, the teachers were tasked to find solutions to their classroom and
instructional problems through reading various literatures available. The topic of Mrs. Villarino
was very important because it gives ideas to the teachers on how they are going to write and
discuss the results of their research.
In the afternoon, the workshop began. Since the teachers already have the simplified
format for action research, they brainstormed and organized their writings and fitted them to
the format. Some of them consulted Dr. Emmie Cabanlit and Mrs. Ellin Gamayot as to the
proper way of presenting their data, or if their research is considered researchable or not.
The teachers were also energized by the energetic teachers of Lower Tamugan National
High School. The icebreaker helped the teachers not to be sleepy as they make their action
research.
The whole afternoon was used to craft their individual action research. The teachers
were very into it. They concentrated, asked questions to their peers, and typed their answers to
their computers.
Day 3 – April 17, 2019
The last day of the seminar was intended for the teachers to present their output. A
drawing of lots was done the day before the presentation to determine the sequence of teachers
to present their research output. The following are the list of the schools in Cluster 8:
Some teachers prepared a PowerPoint Presentation to aide them as they present their
research. The organizers were very amazed. They congratulated the teachers for successfully
making their own classroom-based action research.
In the afternoon, the principals of the Cluster 8 schools were present. In the closing
ceremony, Mrs. Viriginia Penales, Principal III of Lower Tamugan National High School shared
her sentiments and congratulated the teachers as they have already made their action
research. She gave emphasis on action research as one of the tools in solving various issues
and concerns in the classroom.
The team from the University of Southeastern Philippines arrived in the middle of the
closing ceremony, and also added insights on the importance of action research. Afterwards,
certificates were given to the trainers, the teacher-participants, working committee, and the
principals, in recognition for their unending support to the improvement of the Cluster 8
teachers in terms of their classroom management and instruction and in the teaching-learning
process in general.
The three-day seminar-workshop ended with a satisfied look on the faces of the Cluster
8 teachers. They were not just happy because of the three-day service credit. They were also
happy because of the lessons and concepts that they have learned in the seminar that will help
them to become better teachers in our country.
