Learning Outcomes
Copies of the Activity Sheet “Making Choices” (1) and (2) for each student.
Blackboard/flipchart.
This lesson could lead into lesson plan “Who Influences Me”.
Method
1. Explain the aims of the lesson using the learning outcomes on Activity Sheet (1).
2. Ask the class to brainstorm some of the decisions we have to make in a typical day. Record the
responses e.g. to watch TV, what to choose in the school cafeteria.
3. Give out the Activity Sheets (1) and (2) and ask the students to complete Sections 1, 2 and 3
individually.
4. Introduce the idea of major an minor decisions. Ask for examples.
5. Discuss with the class different decision making methods as indicated in Section 3.
6. Highlight ones need when making major decisions – discuss consequences of actions e.g. eating junk
food over a period of time could affect your health.
7. Ask students to list in Section 4 other major decisions they have made or will make which could affect
their health, relationships, school, job/career.
8. Finally in Section 5 students identify what influences our decision making – e.g. parents, school
teacher, friends, rewards, costs.
9. Ask the students what they have learned from the lesson.
10. Summarise the main learning outcomes.
