Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematic 5

The document provides a detailed lesson plan for teaching students how to derive the formula for finding the area of a circle. The plan outlines objectives, materials, teacher and student activities. It involves showing students real objects in circles like plates and wheels, discussing circumference, then guiding students step-by-step to divide a circle into parts and rearrange it into a parallelogram to substitute values into the area formula for a parallelogram to derive the formula for the area of a circle, which is πr2. Students will then complete an activity in groups to practice the process.

*Thank you. Michelle
5. House Rules-
* Ok class, before we proceed to our topic I will let you
know the house rules first.
*The class will read the house rules by row to
the teacher

* Everyone should follow the house rule. So that we can *Yes, ma’am
smoothly end our lesson. Did you understand?
6. Review-
* What is the formula of circumference? Yes, Leo. *C= 2πr
* Very good. Thank you Leo. Let give, 5 claps for him.
*What is the formula of a parallelogram? Yes, Karl *A= b x h
* Very good, Karl. Let give, 5 claps for him.
* Now, that you already know how to get the
circumference of a circle and formula of parallelogram. We *Yes, ma’am.
will move on to our next topic.

B. Motivation-
* I have here real objects. I want you to tell what object is
it and what its shape is. Is it clear?
* The teacher will present the objects to the pupils and let
the pupils’ share their idea of what the object is.
* The objects are plate, wheel, picture of electric fan,
* Garry, what object is this?

*That object is a wheel ma’am

* Very good! Let give, 3 claps for him.
* Claire what is the use of wheel in our daily lives? *We can use wheel in vehicles.
* Yes you’re right! Yes you’re right! Take your sit. We
can use wheel so that our vehicles can run thoroughly.
* What object is this Grace?
*That object is a clock ma’am

* Very good! Let give, 3 claps for her.

* Karren what is the use of clock in our daily lives? *We can use clock in knowing the time.
*Yes you’re right! Take your sit. The use of clock is for us
to know the time.
* Last one. Lanie what object is this?
*it’s a plate ma’am

* Very good! Let give, 3 claps for her.

* Minda what is the use of plate in our daily lives?
*Yes you’re right! Take your sit. The use of plate is for *We can use plate when we eat ma’am
eating.
* Very good! All of your answers are correct. Now what
had you observe to the object that I showed to you? What are
*All of them are circles ma’am
their commonalities?
*Yes you’re right. All of their shape is a circle. Does it *Some has big space and some is small ma’am.
have big space of not?
* Ok very well said, they have different space. Some is big
and other is small.

C. Presentation:
* Now, by having those activity. Can anyone tell me if
what will be our topic today?
* Yes, you’re right. Our topic will be derivation of formula *Pupil will answer on the given question
in finding the area of a circle.
* Now, before we will go to our topic. We will know our
objectives first.
*The teacher will call pupil to read each objective.
At the end of the lesson the pupils are expected to:
*The pupils’ will read the objectives by row
A. state the formula in finding the area of a circle;
B. realize the importance of circle in our daily living;
C. explain the steps in deriving formula of the area of
the circle.
* So, are you now eager to know on how to derive formula
of the area of a circle? *Yes ma’am
* Good to hear that. Now let’s proceed.

D. Discussion
Unlocking Difficult terms:
Area- is defined as the number of square units that covers a *The pupils’ will read it by row
closed figures.
Circle- is a curved line that is the same distance from the
center all the way around and connects the point where it
began.
(The teacher will let the pupils read it by row)
*The pupils’ will actively watch the video
*Now class I will present to you a video related to our presentation
topic. Please observe what is in the video. Am I clear?
(Video Presentation)
*Ok, What does the video shared to you? Keno.
*Very good, Keno. Let give, 3 claps for him. *The video shared to us about the area of a
* Yes, the video shared to us on how to derive the formula circle
of area of the circle. Now to be clear, we will actualize the
video by ourselves.
* So we will derive the circle’s area by doing it step by
step.
* Steps in derivation of the formula in finding the area
of the circle.
First step- Make a circle whose radius is r *Pupils are listening

Second step- Divide the circumference of a circle into 2

equal parts. (We know that the circumference of the given
circle is given by the formula; C= 2πr or teacher will ask one
pupil to give the formula of circumference.)
C πr
Half of it will be: C 2πr , C 2πr , *Pupils are listening
2 2 2 2 2
C 2πr C 2πr

Third step- Divide the circle at least 16 parts

*Pupils are listening

Fourth step- Re- arrange the parts in one row

r/h

*The pupil will re arrange the circle into

parallelogram
*Rivie can you please go to the board and re arrange the
circle into a parallelogram.
* Very good Rivie! Let give, 3 claps for him.

Fifth step- Substitute the values using the A given the base
and the height. *Yes ma’am, A= b x h
*Krystel, please right on the board the formula of the area
of a parallelogram?
* Very good! Let give, let’s go clap to her.

We know that the area of a parallelogram is:

A= b x h

So as for the circle, which is made into a parallelogram,

*Yes ma’am, A= πr x r
the length of the base corresponds the πr and the height is r.
* Now who can substitute the value of the area of
parallelogram so that we can derive the area of a circle? Yes,
Marvy.
*Very good Marvy! Let give, let’s go clap to her.
So;
A= πr x r or A= πr2
*Now we already derive the formula of a circle.
* Some of the pupil will answer the question
*Now, why is it that we need to form a parallelogram first
before we can derive the formula of the area of the circle?
(collect ideas from the pupils)
*Pupils are listening
* Yes, we will have to form a parallelogram first because
we cannot measure the base & height of a circle because of
its infinite shape. It doesn’t have its base & height and
because we need to measure first it base and height we need
to re arrange it into another shape so that we can arrive to its * None ma’am
formula. Did you understand?
* Any question from our topic?
* If none, then let’s have our activity for me to assure that
you really understand the topic.

E. Activity *Pupils will read the guided practice and

Guided practice: Group the class into four groups. Each direction
group will receive a brown envelope which contains scissors,
tape, paper circle, manila paper, glue, marker and questions.
Each group will only have 10 minutes to finish their task.
They will be 1 representative in each group to discuss their
