For Mac, look for 'Microsoft Remote Desktop' from the App Store directly.
For Windows, it is already installed by default, otherwise install from the Microsoft Store:
https://www.microsoft.com/store/b/home. Search for 'Remote Desktop'.
For Linux, most distributions already include similar software, search for 'Remote Desktop' or install
one of your own.
Configure access to the lab according to your student and the data from the access worksheet. For
example, for Student7:
User: Administrator
Password: passw0rd
Within the Windows remote access session, open Firefox and access your student's ESX server, in this
example, Student7. You can use either the IP provided in the access worksheet or the link that is already
configured in the browser:
User: root
Password: Passw0rd#
Select the 2nd. option – Deploy a virtual machine from an OVF or an OVA file and click Next.
Depending on the environmental load, it may take a few minutes to complete. The following warning
regarding 'Reconfig VM' is normal and can be ignored:
User: serveradmin
Password: sppDP758
You will need to change the password on the first access. Re-enter it and create a new password, for
example, sppstu07
At the command line, type 'sudo nmtui' to configure the IP of the virtual machine:
Navigate to IPv4 CONFIGURATION and change to <Manual> and then press Enter on <Show> to the
right, filling in the fields according to the worksheet for your student number, for example:
Attention:
Include /24 at the end of the SPP Server IP to configure the correct network mask:
Include Search Domains: lab.syshw.loc
In the Main Menu, select <Set system hostname> and fill in according to your student:
Type 'sudo reboot' to restart the Protect Plus appliance with the new network addresses and hostname.
Wait a few minutes and access the Protect Plus server on port 8090 through the browser within the
remote session to include the license key. If you do not have a key, the appliance will run in trial mode
for 30 days.
Within the Windows remote access session, open Firefox and access your student's ESX server, in this
example, Student7. You can use either the IP in the access worksheet or link that is already configured in
the browser:

Type 'sudo reboot' to restart the Protect Plus appliance with the new network addresses and hostname.
Connected to VPN, access Protect Plus directly from your machine's browser or remote access session.
For example student7:
On the login screen, log in with user 'admin' and default password 'password'
On first access, you will need to change the password. Change it to sppstu07 (or according to your
student number):
In the next screen, you can initialize the internal storage of the Protect Plus appliance with encryption.
We will not do this in this environment, so click Initialize to proceed:
You'll see a welcome screen and then the Protect Plus main Dashboard.

Track through the list of Jobs the process switch from Running to Resource Active. At this point, the
machine is ready to be accessed, with the contents prior to the creation of the C:\Test folder
Access your student's ESX server using the link that is available inside the Windows machine's Firefox
through Remote Access Desktop:
User: root
Password: Passw0rd#
Confirm that the C:\Test folder does not exist for the chosen backup date:
Within a few seconds, the remote access session will be terminated and the temporary machine
automatically removed from the vCenter inventory.
