Shutterfly Photo Book Usability Questions: To Access The RLO Either

The document provides instructions for accessing and navigating a Shutterfly Photo Book Usability RLO. It includes questions for the user to answer about accessing the RLO, navigating through the instructional content, understanding quiz questions, and providing overall feedback. The user reports the navigation was generally straightforward with some minor exceptions like not noticing the navigation guide at first. While most of the instructional content was clear, a few activities could be improved by making images clearer and providing more context for steps. Overall the user felt the RLO was well-organized though saw opportunities to enhance the user experience through small design changes.

Shutterfly Photo Book Usability Questions

To access the RLO either:

1) Go to this URL: https://jburt788.github.io/ShutterflyBurt/

OR
2) Go to this google drive link and download the zip file:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/18w2i5036RfGnlzSDvlrFa6yQ4MVxTUEs/view?usp=sharing
3) Extract it and double click on index-scorm.html to launch the RLO (click OK to ignore the error
about the LMS)

Before you go through the instruction, answer these questions:

1. How are you accessing the RLO (URL or zip file)?

Accessed via the URL
2. If you’re using the URL, what browser are you using (Chrome, Edge, IE, Firefox)?
Firefox
3. If you know, what’s your screen size/resolution?
1728 X 972

As you go through the instruction, answer these questions:

1. If you need help learning how to navigate the RLO, where do you click?
Click on the question mark icon in upper right screen, but I found this through random clicking on
screen objects rather than going to it directly. Where to find navigation guide was not clearly
marked.
2. If you want to view the contents included in the instruction, where do you click?
Click on the small TOC icon at bottom right corner. I did not notice this button until I clicked on
the navigation guide, which pointed it out.
3. On the Page Layout Button slide (the one showing how to click the Layouts button), how do you
advance to the next slide?
Click on the “Next” button at bottom right. Button animation when the slide narration ends
provides a good alert or cue.
4. What (if anything) about the navigation is confusing, unintuitive, or hard to find?
I did not know where to find the Navigation Guide at first, and found it by randomly clicking on
the question mark icon at some point during viewing.

I also did not see the little “TOC” button on the bottom corner (or the >>button at top left to
make the TOC appear) at first, and only discovered that’s where to find the Table of Contents
when I saw it indicated on the navigation guide. I also didn’t really immediately notice the player
buttons across the bottom, because the content screen captured my full attention right away
and all I focused on was the “Start” Button. Maybe that’s just my own ADD tendencies 
Aside from that, the navigation was pretty straightforward. Had I been using keyboard
navigation, it may have taken slightly longer to figure that out.

a. When (if ever) were you unsure what to do next?

Never, really. The next step at any point in the RLO was either intuitive or clearly
marked/indicated.
b. Are you surprised by where any buttons take you? If so, which ones and where did you
expect them to go? A little surprised by the question mark icon because I was unsure
what it was for. Maybe the Review button at the end, which I anticipated would take me
back to instructional content.

5. What parts of the instructional content (if any) are difficult to follow?
I think the instructional content was very clear and supported well with clear instructions,
examples, and appropriate demonstrations. The few minor exceptions might be:
a. When I first started the Try It Out activity (1 of 5), I immediately read the first
instruction at the top (“Change the layout…) and went straight to the layout box of the
picture to click on it. When the answer came up wrong, it took me a second to realize
that there was actually a different instruction for that step (probably more my lack of
reading ALL instructions before beginning, but I could see others possibly making this
mistake).
b. Somehow during the Try It Out activity, I ended up advancing to the next step without
knowing if I got the previous one correct (I must have clicked somewhere accidentally
and it advanced to the next screen). Then I was unable to return to the previous screen.
c. On activity 4 of 5, it was extremely difficult to discern different types of text in the
image choices, even when I zoomed way in—the images were pretty blurry.

6. Is it clear how to answer all the quiz questions (even if the answer isn’t clear)? If not, which are
confusing? Yes, it was clear what was required to answer the questions.

7. Is the feedback on the quiz questions appropriate and helpful?

Yes, but not necessarily obvious or easy to see at first. Might be more readily visible if it were to
pop-up in the center of the screen…
8. Could you correctly answer all the quiz questions based on this instruction? If not, which
questions did you have trouble with?
Yes, although number 4 of 5 was a little tricky due to being unable to see the images clearly.
Consider leaving out “on page 2” in the instructions, as this could be confusing to some.
9. Did the Review button go where you expected it to?
No, I anticipated it would return to the instructional content. But then looking at the slide again,
I see it states “summary of content.”
10. Would you change the volume of the voiceover? If so, would you make it louder or quieter?
The volume was fine, and I could adjust it louder or softer using my own sound controls
After you complete the instruction (including the assessment), answer these questions:

1. After you completed the RLO (so you made it to either the “Congratulations” or “Page Layout
Summary” slide), did you want to get back to the instructional content?
Actually, I did, to revisit one thing I saw in the video—so I figured out I had to go to the TOC and
then was able to click on the item I wanted to review.
2. Did you find the written summaries on the Filter Layouts and Select a Layout slides?
Yes, they were easy to locate and view.
3. Are there any spelling/grammar errors or anything that isn’t working technically (Buttons that
you can’t click, cutoff voiceovers, captions that don’t match the voiceover, etc.)?
I did not see any spelling/grammar errors. Timing of narration and content was good. Pacing of
content seemed adequate. The one minor thing was that upon reaching the “What’s next” slide,
the narration continued automatically to the next screen before I had a chance to make a choice
of what I wanted to view next.

I noticed that once I clicked the fast-forward button, the audio and captions were no longer there
once I pushed “play” again. I tried using the ‘restart’ button, but got the same result. I had to
refresh my browser to get the normal state back.

The Navigation and exit icon did not have anything to indicate they were a clickable object (e.g.,
change the pointer shape

4. Were there any colors or images that seemed distracting or out of place?
Nothing distracting in color scheme or fonts. Everything was visually appealing and easy to
see/read/follow. Some of the images were not clear, even when I tried zooming in on them (
I think mostly the images in the activity).

5. What other general feedback do you have about this RLO? Anything that stood out as
particularly good or needing improvement?

I enjoyed this RLO. Overall, the instructional content was really good. The intent was clear. The
instruction was supported by examples and good demonstrations. The computer generated
narration is weirdly mechanical, but it is clear and easy to follow. A real human voice is just my
personal preference. I totally get not wanting to narrate your own stuff. I think the RLO provides
sound, stand-alone instruction for a specific, useful skill. The overall RLO was well-organized with
just some relatively minor technical design issues.
