Hithadhoo/ Addu LESSON PLAN – 2019

Week: 46 Date: 20-02-2019 Duration: 50mins
Lesson No: 3 Classes: 12 J Subject: Maths
Topic: MENSURATION
Teacher : Mohammad Rashid

Prior Knowledge (what students already know about the topic):

 Concept of surface area and volume
4
 𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑢𝑚𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑠𝑝ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑉 = 𝜋𝑟 3
3
 Surface area of sphere 𝑆𝐴 = 4𝜋𝑟 2

Objectives of the lesson:

At the end of the lesson students must be able to:
 Find area and volume of hemisphere
 Understand Surface area of hemisphere=2𝜋𝑟 2
 Solve problems related with area and volume of sphere and hemisphere

Materials required Type of activities students will be engaged in

 Edexcel AS and A Level Modular

mathematics (C12 text book).  Cooperative learning Hands-on/ practical
Peer tutoring Technology integration
 PPT Discussion Project work
Simulations Role play
Group work/pairing Others (specify)

Introduction
 Recall the concept of sphere with the help of examples such as footballs, the
shape of sun and earth. It is perfectly symmetrical. And the formulae to find its

Body

Faculty of Science and Technology - Daily Lesson Plan- 2019 1 of 3

1. find the surface area of a cylinder of radius 12 cms?
2. Find out the surface area of a cylinder with a height of 15 cm topped with a
hemisphere with the radius of 4 cm
Answer:
Total surface area of the Shape = Surface area of cylinder + Area of cylinder
Time/min
25 mi bottom + Surface area of hemisphere
ns
Carved surface area of cylinder=2𝜋𝑟ℎ = 2 × 𝜋 × 4 × 15 = 377.14
Base area of cylinder=𝜋𝑟 2 = 50.28
Surface area of hemisphere=2𝜋𝑟 2 = 100.57
∴ Total surface area of the Shape = 150.85712857143

Evaluation
Time/min
 Oral questions and class exercise.
10 mins

Conclusion

 Summarize the topic by highlighting the key points.

KEY POINTS:
5 mins  Surface area of Hemisphere= 2𝜋𝑟 2
 If it include base, then area=3𝜋𝑟 2
2
 Volume of Hemisphere= 3 𝜋𝑟
