Due Date: Lunes 10 de Junio 00h00

This document provides instructions for the final project in the Analysis of Data II course. Students must apply data mining techniques like PCA, SVM, discriminant analysis, and correspondence analysis to solve an economics problem. The project report should include sections on the problem, objectives, literature review, theoretical framework, empirical framework, results, and conclusions. Students must submit the project in groups of two by June 10 in a PDF with a report of under 10 pages and an appendix, as well as an R script. ANALISIS DE DATOS II

FACULTAD DE ECONOMÍA
PONTIFICIA UNIVERSIDAD CATÓLICA DEL ECUADOR
Final Project INSTRUCTIONS

Due date: Lunes 10 de Junio 00h00

The main aim of this project is to apply the data mining techniques learnt in class such as
PCA kernel, SVM, Perceptron, Discriminant analysis, Logit and correspondence analysis, in
order to solve a problem in economics. The main topic could be about macroeconomic
current situation, sectoral analysis, social conditions, and in general, of any issue that may
be of relevance in the academic debate for the search of solutions to the economic and
social problems of the country1.

The report should include in their different sections: presentation of the problem,
objectives, review of the literature, theoretical framework, empirical framework, results
and conclusions (the formulation of hypotheses is not necessary).

Turn in this final project with group of 2. You are also allowed to finish this project by
yourself. Each group should send me an email by Friday, May 17, 2019 4:00 PM EST with
(1) the names of your group members, (2) topic, (3)paper to replicate and (4) abstract.

For each group, turn in

a) A .pdf file with two parts: 1) a typed report less than 10 pages, with all the analyses,
results, plots, and explanations, and 2) a typed appendix attached at the end, with all
the calculations, derivations, or any additional explanations that support the main
report. There is no length limitation for the appendix part.
b) An .r file that includes all the R functions you write for this project.

Show your best effort work. The project grade is 12 points and it will be given based on a
neat report, a concrete proof / derivation, and a workable R function. Turn in both files in
one single email to [email protected] between Jun 08, 2019 0:00 AM EST and
Jun 10, 2019 0:00 PM EST. Late report is not accepted. You are responsible to make sure
your name is shown on the report.
