Week 9 Blog

This document provides guidance for weekly journal entries on a student's filmmaking project (FMP) learning journey. It states the journals should reflect on what was learned each week and how it benefited the project, and identify areas for improvement. The student is then provided with questions to address for their Week Nine editing entry, including how they found the editing process, skills learned, screenshots from their editing timeline, issues overcome during editing, and whether any scenes need re-shooting. The student answers each question, finding the editing process beneficial for learning new skills like transitions, overcoming challenges like learning new effects, and identifying a few scenes that need re-shooting but cannot be due to location. They report being on track for the week.

Week Nine – Editing

EDITING

How did you find the editing process? I found the editing process very good due to it being
something I have been trying to improve on, this is because I
think it is the most important part of the production, as it’s the
element that ties all the strings together, and making it into a
music video.

What skills did you have to I learnt during this editing process a lot about transitions in
learn/develop during the editing editing, this is because in my last production it is not
process? something I focused on enough. I think these transitions really
make the production as It gives the video a sense of
professionalism, as it is what you see in big budget music
videos.

Upload screenshots of the editing

process and explain what they show.

These are screenshots from my editing timeline, the first screen

shot is a close up on a clip that I used to do a lot of work on by
putting a warp stabilizer and other effects on top of it.

The second screenshot is of the finished timeline of all of my

hard work, it is over a week of hard editing. You can see all of
the effects, the pink bar at the top is the black bars of my
video, the green markers at the top of the video, is where I
marked on the timeline when I tried to sync the music to the
lip – syncing which was a very long process.

What issues did you have to Whilst editing the issues that I had to overcome, was the
overcome whilst editing? How did you amount of time I tried new effects I hadn’t used before, this
move past them? ended up taking lots of time as I had to learn lots of new skills
which was very useful, however it did take a while to do and it
involved lots of mistakes occurring, which was annoying.
Although I do feel it was worth it as I got the reward of knowing
it pulled off.

Have you identified any scenes which I have identified that there are a few scenes which need re-
need re-shooting? Will you be able to shooting, I had some issues with the focus in some shots
do this? although I did get to re-shoot some there was some shots
which were necessary for the production and could not be
replaced in time due to their location, I was not able to re-
shoot in time.

Are you on track this week? If not, Yes, I’m on track

how far behind are you?

What work do you need to complete N/a

outside of lessons to stay on track?

High Grade Tips

Evaluation & Reflection

● ‘reasoned decisions and inform the development of ideas’ – both your evaluation and the
weekly reflections above will clearly show both how and why your ideas developed throughout
the project
● ‘demonstrating clarity in thinking’ – all of the above plus very clear links between your research,
planning, idea development and the production of your poster and film trailer
