Specifgravity of Cememnt

The procedure involves weighing an empty flask, adding 50g of cement and weighing again, mixing the cement with kerosene oil to remove air, filling to the mark and weighing, emptying and refilling with kerosene and weighing, then using the weights in a formula to calculate the specific gravity of the cement, with the specific gravity found for the sample cement being 3.15.

Procedure to find the specific gravity of Cement:

First of all, I weight the Le Chatlier flask with its stopper and found W1. After that, I put a
calculated amount of cement (50 gram) and again weight the sample along with the flask which
is W2, and then add kerosene oil to the cement in flask and mix thoroughly with a glass rod to
remove the entrapped air. After the stirring and thoroughly mixing, I fill the flask up-to the
graduated mark and again weight the sample. Now I clean the sample and refill the flask with
kerosene oil up-to the graduated mark and find the weight W4. From these calculations, I found
the specific gravity of cement.

𝑊2 − 𝑊1
𝑆𝑝𝑒𝑐𝑖𝑓𝑖𝑐 𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑣𝑖𝑡𝑦 =
(𝑊2 − 𝑊1) − (𝑊3 − 𝑊4) × 0.79

Where W1= weight of the empty flask

W2=weight of flask+ cement

W3= Weight of flask +cement +kerosene

W4= Weight of flask + Kerosene

Specific gravity of kerosene= 0.79

The specific gravity of Kohat cement = 3.15
