Matteo Golfarelli is an associate professor of Computer Science and Technology at the
University of Bologna, Italy, where he teaches courses in information systems, darabsses,
and date mining. Before devoting himsel! full me to data warehousing, he wes 2
researcher in the feds of robotics and pattern recognition. He completed his education at
Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He has co-zuthored more than 60 articles
published in international journais and conference papers, and authored a book on
Information system engineering, He has taken part in sovaral research projects and research
‘contracts on data warehousing. Thanks t his experience in the field of business intelligence,
‘he served as an external auditor during many PhD examinations, Since 2008, he hes served
as program co-hair of the Business Intelligence Systerns Conference, He is also member of
the Editorial Board of the International Joxrmal of Data Mining, Modeling and Management. He

[Both authors have been working with data warehousing since 1987. They are well-known,
“within the international community of researchers in this Feld mainly due to their
publiesions on conceptual design. They have led courses and lectures on data wazehousing
for several companies, institutions, and universities in Taly and abroad. Both authors were
‘invited to present keynote addresses and to participate in panels on research topics related
to data warehousing in international workshops. In 1998 and 2002, they organized two
workshops on data warehouse design at the University of Bologna. Both workshops
addressed business analysts and designers. In 2001, they led a tutorial on data warehousing,
at the 17th International Conference on Database Engineering in Heidelberg. Germany.
In 2004, they were ited to the Perspective Seminar “Data Warehousing at the Crossroads”
im Dagetubl, Germany. Ibe goal ofthis seminar was to define new guidelines for data
