Proposal Final
Proposal Final
PROPOSAL Documentary
Rationale:
For the last 7 units I have acquired numerous skills which will hopefully help when I come to do the
final major project. The main skills I have learned which will help me in my final project are
presenting, as I am doing a documentary so I will have to be a good speaker and do a lot of talking
especially when doing my interviews and voiceover so this skill is crucial, I have also learned how to
edit. Not only how to edit, but what elements to include in the editing for example music, transitions
and order. This year I have also learned how to shoot an interview which involves how to do an
interview set up ie what equipment to use, how to use it and also how to edit an interview by using
the different shot types, as well as what questions to ask in an interview, they have to be relevant to
the topic and/or situation. For example this is all shown in my previous two documentaries I have
produced this year, such as the interview in the knife crime documentary I showed my knowledge of
how to edit and film a documentary, but there are elements I need to improve upon such as cut out
bits of the interview which are not as important.
Project concept:
For my final project I have decided to talk about music education and why it is failing as a subject. I
will talk about how people who have gone through music education haven’t gone anywhere else
with it and why musicians really make it. I have chosen to do a documentary on this topic as it is
something which is relevant in the modern world but also something that I am passionate about and
I can obtain a lot of information on this and I have a few options in terms of people I can talk to
about this. I plan to talk to at least 2 or 3 people about this, I would like to talk to musicians about
how they got into music and also anybody who might be involved in the struggle of music education.
I will try to work out a way to do this in appropriate locations and I will create a plan on how I will
get the equipment there, what equipment I will use and how I plan to use it. Cameras and tripods
are key but I will also have to consider whether or not I will need lights.
Evaluation:
To make sure that I am constantly on track for my project, I will gather feedback from teachers
regularly and improve my work at every given opportunity. I will reflect on my work weekly via
weekly blogs to see where I am up to, and what still needs doing. I will also complete a whole
evaluation at the end of the project.
