Motivation
People build individual homes for all sorts of reasons. An important reason,
above all in poor countries, is that they might not be able to afford their
housing on the open market. Another motivation of self-builders can be the
wish to create something tailored to their family's requirements and/or
their lifestyle.
Methods
Self-builders create their homes through a variety of methods - and seldom
build it entirely themselves. In rich coutries a lot of them employ
an architect to come up with the design of the new home and contract a
builder to construct it; others use so-called 'package' companies to provide
a one-stop solution. Many others find themselves managing building sites
and dealing directly with planners, tradespeople and materials suppliers.
Extent
Self-build in its wider meaning is an ordinary practice in many developing
countries. In most developed countries self-build is regulated by the public
administration, while in developing countries self-build is sometimes
supported by NGOs or international organizations like, for instance, United
Nations Volunteers.

ANSWER:
NO, I WILL NOT LIVE ON THE AREA NEAR THE RIVER SPECIALLY NEAR THAT DEEP
RIVER. I WOULD LIKELY STILL LIVE IN TOWNS TOGETHER WITH MY LOVEONES FOR
SOME REASONS. NOWADAYS OUR CLIMATE WAS CHANGING, THERE’S A LOT OF
NATURAL CALAMITIES OCCURING SPECIALLY IN OUR COUNTRY WHICH IS THE
PHILIPPINES. LIVING NEAR THE RIVER WOULD BE HARD FOR SENIORS CITIZENS TO
LIVE BECAUSE THE AREA WOULD BE LIKELY PRONE TO DISASTERS, SUCH
FLOODING AND ERROTION OF LAND. THEY COULDN’T LIVE PEACEFULLY ON THE
PLACE WHERE THERE IS A LOT OF INTERRUPTIONS INTO THEIR EVERYDAY LIVES. IT
WOULD BE HARD FOR THEM TO ALWAYS EVACUATE WHENEVER THERE IS A
NATURAL CALAMITIES. BUT ON OTHER HAND, ONLY THE GOOD THINGS OF THIS
SITE LOCATION IS THAT THEY ARE CLOSE TO NATURE WHERE THEY COULD ENJOY
AND RELAX BY THE SOUND OF WATER FLOWING AND THE COLD BREEZE THEY
COULD ACTUALLY EXPERIENCE, BUT I GUESS SENIORS WOULD LIKELY BE CLOSE TO
THERE RELATIVES AND LOVEONES AT THAT AGE. THEY ARE NEEDING A LOT OF
LOVE, CARE AND SPECIAL ATTENTION I SHOULD SAY. THAT IS WHY LIVING IN
TOWNS WOULD LIKELY BE APPROPRIATE FOR THEM.
“As the population increases in size, the cost of living increases, and incomes
don’t increase with the rising expenditures, [and] finding an affordable home is
becoming a great challenge.”
The situation seems insurmountable at times, but the government has been
coming up with a variety of suggestions in an attempt to help quell the backlog.
These suggestions include potentially providing developers with tax breaks that
may entice them to building large social housing projects. If the government can
attract developers with schemes such as Income Tax Holidays, it is likely that
developers will be more likely to take on projects, which are outside of their usual
sphere.
