Thanks for your post. i need one clarification, as per calculation sheet, down conductors are not
varying while changing the height of the building. Is height of the building considered for down
conductors

Definitely Change.
Collection Area Ac=(L x W) + 2 (L x H) + 2(W x H) + 3.14 H2
Where H=Height of Building.
You need to enter Proper Value of Maximum Acceptable Overall Risk Factor …

Hello Sir,

My Self is Nethra, am working in Electrical consultancy field as an Design Engineer. I need some
clarification regarding FRLS wire. In Residential , Apartments all are using FRLS wire , i just wanted
know what is reason behind that. Is there any IS standards for that?? Plz do the need full. Am
awaiting your reply.

Hello sir,

IS 694 : 2010 is for ” POLYVINYL CHLORIDE INSULATED UNSHEATHED

AND SHEATHED CABLES/CORDS WITH RIGID AND
FLEXIBLE CONDUCTOR FOR RATED VOLTAGES
UP TO AND INCLUDING 450/750 V
( Fourth Revision )” . It defines all wires in 2 categories FR ( Flame retardant ) & FR-LSH ( Flame
retardant Low smoke and halogen) . The FRLS category is under commercially available category
Between FR and FR-LHS.

Dear sir
i need some clarification for arc gap in between two rods of lightning arrester that could be used for a
11 kV transmission lines
1)The space in between two metal rod will give a capacitance effect or it will act as a resistance
2)what standards could i follow for ge ing accurate results for calculation of arc in between two
metal rods
3)what will be the change in the density of arc (electrical parameters) when it sparks out from leading
electrode and when it reaches the end electrode after ionising the air molecules when a lightning
strike occurs directly lightning strokes and if lightning hits the transmission line( please provide
guidance such that it would be useful for my carrier)
