AUTOMATION SPECIALIST

REPORTS TO: DIRECT REPORTS AND TEAM SIZE:


TEAM LEADER AUTOMATION NIL

THIS ROLE EXISTS TO: (PURPOSE)


This position exists to:
 Assist with the delivery of the Automation program across all products including Water,
Sewerage and Waterways. This includes planning, investigation and development of work
specifications for the delivery of the program.
 Management of external Partners to deliver the program.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 Building relationships with key Melbourne Water operational staff to identify automation
opportunities across the Water, Sewerage and Drainage areas of the business.
 Working with teams of internal stakeholders and external delivery Partners in accordance
with Melbourne Waters Leadership Framework.
 Delivery of projects from the Automation program in-line with financial targets that generate
optimum value, quality and efficiency for customers.
 Maximize value for customers by adopting innovative systems, technologies and lean
delivery processes for Automation of the businesses.
 Manage change and continuous improvement utilising lean principles.
 Direct management of projects within the Annual automation program including financial
budgets, planning, project scoping and business case development.
 Taking care of own and colleagues Health and Safety through identification and reporting of
hazards and active involvement in improvement initiatives.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

 Demonstrated proficiency in the delivery of projects in the


Mechanical/Electrical/Instrumentation and automation/technology space within an
industrial environment.
 Proven experience in complex system automation and process control.
 Experience with the operational complexities of Water Supply, Drainage and Sewerage
Systems.
 Practical experience and knowledge of assets with detailed understanding of PLC/RTU
system installation.
 Proven experience with IOT devices and including coding.
 Demonstrated organization and project management skills, with the ability to manage
competing priorities to meet tight deadlines.
 Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships both within and outside the
business.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

All Melbourne Water employees are responsible for managing aspects of our customer/stakeholder
relationships and service interactions, and will work proactively to deliver a consistent customer
experience.
INTERNAL
 Service Delivery teams to ensure service requirements are achievable and delivered
 Financial Services and Program Delivery groups for commercial support
 Corporate Services group to build capability
 Asset Management Team and other Management Teams across Service Delivery
 Maintenance & Low Risk Capital Service Providers
 Major Program Delivery teams to support the successful delivery of projects
EXTERNAL
 Industry bodies and regulators
 Customers including retail Water Companies
 Development of relationships with industry groups and other leading organisations within
the discipline of automation and control.

SALARY RANGE:

 EA level 7

This role requires the following:
 Tertiary degree or relevant qualification and experience.
 Experience gained through leading teams
 Criminal Records Check / Pre-employment health assessment (TBC)
 Victorian driver’s license.
