CHAPTER 3: METHODOLOGY

This chapter is the presentation of the method and strategies utilized in the study. The chapter

presents the details of the research design, research locale, population and sample of the study,

research instrument, data gathering procedures, and data analysis.

RESEARCH DESIGN

This research is purely qualitative in nature. Specifically, the researcher used evaluative

narrative design. True variables for this study included the different strategies in managing personal

finances, stating the struggles that most of the students are experiencing by means of managing or

budgeting their own money. The design involved describing, recording, analyzing, and reporting on the

Strategies of Grade 11 ABM Students in Managing their Personal Finances. It also determined and

reported the way things are. The design is very relevant to this study because it was expected to

facilitate adequate data collection basically by the questionnaire guides. It's enable to distinguish small

differences between diverse sample groups; ease of administering and recording questions and

answers; increase capabilities of using advanced statistical analysis and abilities of tapping into ways and

strategies.

RESEARCH LOCALE

This study was conducted to the Grade 11 ABM Senior High School Students of the University of

Makati, Higher School ng UMAK (HSU) located at J.P. Rizal Ext, Makati, 1215 Metro Manila. The target

population is only 24.39% of the total student’s population. The researcher gathered data from those

respondents who answered the survey questionnaire.

POPULATION AND SAMPLING DESIGN

The target population for this study consists of Grade 11 Students who are studying in Higher

School ng UMak. The said Grade 11 students who are surveyed are presently taking up Accountancy,

Business and Management (ABM). They are given a survey questionnaire as a part of the data gathering

procedures during their free time that matches with the researcher schedule. The total number of Grade

11 students is two hundred five (205) for sections 02, 05, 06, 07 and 09 but only ten (10) respondents in

each section were given a survey questionnaire.

Grade/ Year Level Population Total Population of Respondents

Grade 11 – 02ABM 46 10

Grade 11 – 05ABM 44 10

Grade 11 – 06ABM 41 10

Grade 11 – 07ABM 43 10

Grade 11 – 09ABM 31 10

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT AND VALIDATION

The instrument was adapted from a research study that became a basis so that the

questionnaire can be made. By understanding the study’s given information, researcher made an

instrument that will support the study. The questionnaire contains the respondents’ profile (age and

gender), eight (8) multiple choices questions and one (1) identification question. The questionnaire was

made by the researcher and asks for the assistant of an authorized professor to the subject Practical

Research I to check the validity of the given instrument.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

Data was collected mainly by the use of survey questionnaires after the approval of the request

letter for the survey by the professor in charge. The researchers conduct a meeting for having a survey

to those G11 Senior High School ABM students. The researcher asked their cooperation in answering the

questions with whole honesty and patiently tallied the answers of the respondents in the questionnaire.

DATA ANALYSIS

The collected data was analyzed using quantitative data analysis. Data was collected

using graph and tally from the answer of the Senior High School ABM students. The data collected shows

the specific questions on this research. Therefore the researcher can be able to get the answers from

the data that being gathered. Result was computed using the formula.
