Pre-requisites: Students are expected to have the basic understandings of spreadsheets and data
visualization.
Unit - I 10 Hours
Introduction to data and Information: Meaning of data and Information, Types of data: 1. Primary
data v/secondary data, 2. Qualitative data v/s quantitative data, 3. Categorical v/s numerical data, 4.
Integers, Booleans, floats, characters v/s classes, arrays, interfaces. 5. Structured v/s unstructured v/s
semi structured data 6. Metric data V/s Non Metric data, collection of data with survey and observation
methods using personal, mail, telephone, online interview technique either through forms or
questionnaire
Data cleaning, data integration, data transformation, data reduction, missing data analysis, outlier
detection, normality, reliability, validity, variance inflation factor, binning, clustering.
Unit - II 10 Hours
Data Visualization: Line chart, bar chart, area chart, box plots , time series plots, timeline diagrams,
dendograms, pie charts, Gantt charts, heat maps, Histograms, bubble charts, decision tree maps, scatter
plots, spider chart, waterfall charts, wedge graphs, hyperbolic tree maps, matrix structure, node-link
diagrams, and alluvial diagrams. Tabulation, contingency tables, and complex tables
Self learning topics: data Visualization using MS- Excel or any other tools.
Unit - III 10 Hours
Descriptive Statistics : Arithmetic mean, median, mode, quartiles, quartile deviation, coefficient of
quartile deviation, deciles , percentiles, skewness, Karl person correlation, spearman rank correlation,
range, coefficient of range standard deviation, coefficient of variation, variance, mean deviation from
mean, median and mode.
Unit - IV 10 Hours
Inferential Statistics: Hypothesis testing; Meaning of hypothesis, Null hypothesis and alternative
hypothesis, level of significance, confidence intervals, tails of test, significance and power of test,
critical regions and selection of hypothesis tests. Compare means: One sample t-test, independent
samples t-test, paired sample t- test, one way ANOVA. Non Parametric tests: Chi Square goodness of
fit, Chi Square contingency tables.
Self learning topics: Using of inferential statistics in the summer internship projects and research
publications.
Unit - V 10 Hours
Linear Regression, Decision theory, Time series: Trend, Seasonal,
Theory Only: Time series cyclical and irregular, clustering, classification, Association rule, data
mining, Neural networks, deep learning, reinforcement learning, and artificial Intelligence.
Project work:
Student should financial database and do hypothesis testing for a company allotted by the faculty.

Self Study topics shall be evaluated during CIE (Assignments and IA tests) and 10% weightage
shall be given in SEE question paper.
Scheme of Semester End Examination (SEE):
1. It will be conducted for 100 marks of 3 hours duration. It will be reduced to 50 marks for the
calculation of SGPA and CGPA.
2. Minimum marks required in SEE to pass:
3. Question paper contains two questions from each unit each carrying 20 marks. Students have to
answer one full question from each unit.
