Better transport system raises the standard of living. Yes absolutely right! But this is possible
when the projects under work on improvement and reduction in vehicle operating costs and travel
time. As we know India has one of the largest road networks across the globe, spanning about
5.5 million km. Do you ever know? 90 percent of India's total passenger traffic uses road network
only to commute purpose. In fact, road transportation has gradually increased over the years with
the step of improvement in connectivity between cities, towns, and villages in the country. Besides
this, the Indian government has made a future plan for better road transportation.
Why road transportation is so important? Actually, roads play a crucial role in the transportation
of passengers for short and medium as well as they build an easy contact between farms, field,
factory, and market and provide better services.
India is the world's largest populous nation. Therefore, the Indian government thoroughly working
to make a better transport system. Recently, Prime Minister inaugurated 2 major national
highway 16.55 km Varansai Ring Road Phase has been completed at a cost of Rs. 759,36 crore
whereas the four laning and construction of 17. 25 km. Along with, Babatpur- Varanasi Road on
National Highway has cost Rs.812.59 crore as per report of government's office. Actually,
Babatpurr Airport Highway will direct link Varanasi to the airport and link Jaunpur, Sultanpur,
and Lucknow with the flyover at Harhua and a road overbridge at a turn, this new road plan reduce
the time from Varanasi to the Airport, provide better facility to the tourist as well.
Moreover, the government has also inaugurated two newly – built expressways – phase 1 of Delhi
– Meerut expressway with Rs. 11,000 crore Eastern Peripheral Expressway. Our government
is in fully focused on infrastructure development. The Delhi- Meerut Expressway provide bicycle
tracks on the nearly 28km between Delhi and Dusna. The total length of the project is 82km of
which the first 27.7kms consists of 14 lanes while the rest 6 lane. This expressway reduces traffic
signals on the Delhi- Meerut road, which called the busiest highway in the region and make it no
signal plus the cost of this expressway is Rs. 7,500.
India's first Expressway, the Ahmedabad Vadodara Expressway is that expressway, connecting
the cities of Ahmedabad and Vadodara under the state of Gujarat, in Indian Expressway makeup
approximately 1,208km of India's road network as of 2013. These high- speeds predominantly

the future. The National Highway Authority of India, responsible for overall development,
maintenance and management of National Highways. Such activities work under by National
Highway Development Project (NHDP) in five phase.
The state government's authority is responsible to create road highways because of the state
highway direct link with National Highway district headquarters, tourist spots, and minor parks
and carry the traffic along major centers within the state. As of 31 March, 2016 Maharastra has
the longest share I total length of State Highway Roads ( 22.14%), Followed by Karnataka (
11.11%), Gujarat (9.765%), Rajasthan (8.625) and Tamil Nadu (6.67%).
The District Roads connect with State Highways and National Highway which are maintained
under Zila Parishad. The government's focus is with the state to bring a transformation change in
these backward areas. So, the government will host programmes and interactions by 2020 on
the 75th year of India's Independence.
The rural roads transportation in India form a substantial part of the Indian Road Network is only
70.23 percent of the total roads in India. The condition of the road is very poor in rural areas that
decrease the quality of the rural population. Most of the rural roads are of bad quality and unable
to withstand the loads are neglected from all season, good quality -2 lane or 4 lane highways,
making slow economic resources.
Here, the government aims to build more than three lakh km of rural roads. Therefore, the
government has proposed a big expansion of the network of rural roads in Rs. 2,100crore has
distributed for rural roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. It was launched in Dec
2000 by the Indian government to unconnected rural habitation as well as this yojana aimed to
build all season, single lane, paved asphalted roads that connect India's rural and remote areas.
According TO Agriculture Secretary ( Indian Council For Research On International Economic
Relate, this will enhance the productive employment for rural poor and augment rural
infrastructure.
Even though the government working on policies only to attract significant investor interest. A
total of 20, 000 highways are expected to be completed by 2022. Furthermore, the Ministry of
Road Transportation and Highway has fixed overall projects and constructions of 10, 000 km
national highways in FY19. A total of about 295 major projects in which bridges and roads are
expected to be completed in the same year.
Now in the next five years, the Indian government is ready to invest Rs. 7 trillion (the US $ 107.82
billion) for the construction of new roads and highways.
We hope if our government continues to work with this passion, then nobody can stop India from
being developed.
