INTRODUCTION
It is proposed to re-construct the historically relevant Glastonbury stone arch to a new site at Church Street, Mexborough.
A basic examination of ground conditions was carried out by excavating a single trial pit in the proposed location of the arch

on 12 november 2014. This revealed made ground over a former roadway with sandstone and stiff clay ratchel at a depth
of approx 600mm.
It is therefore considered that the arch be built off a plain slab foundation cast at this level and set back from the face of the
retaining wall so as not to apply any additional surcharge pressure.

Base to be within 30 deg of base of ret wall
