INTRODUCTION

Codeswitching is a change that someone makes from a language to another language


Code-switching users are clearly people who can speak two languages or more. In Indonesia, we often find
it because each region in Indonesia has its own regional language. In addition, we can find code-switching
when talking to our friends who are crossbreed or relocated from other countries. For example, there are
handsome Caucasians or cute oppa like Korean artists who live in our home environment. It could be that
they can speak their mother tongue (the Caucasians speak English, the fake Korean artist must be speaking
Korean) and Indonesian. And when we (who understand or are learning English and Korean) chat with
them, code-switching will occur accidentally when chatting.
Why code-switching is important? Because many people especially in indonesia can speak with
bilingual and multilungal languages, so we do some research to some friend in our university to know the
background of people who can use bilingual or multilingual languages. For example in malaysian, many
people use code switching they use english and malay languanges in one time. For example : “Don’t
forget bawa hijabnya besok, ya?” this is example combination of malay and English languages.
Code-switching 'also occurs because the use of different languages is not functional. 'Code switching' is
not only a phenomenon in a society where each member uses more than one language, but also is a necessity in that
society. 'Code switching' is used to fulfill the 'sense' of the user. When the language used by someone in conveying
the message is felt to be unsuccessful the person needs to change the language with the language that is understand.
So when people feel like the word they use not catch fully by other people, they will do codeswitching for the word
is fully easily to understand.
