1.0 Introduction
Quality of Work Life is the sum total of all physical , psychological and economic factors which
affect any given job in an organization. The term “QWL” refers to the workplace conditions
which are favourable or unfavourable for an employee. QWL is sometimes considered as a sub-
concept of the broad concept of quality of life, which refers to the overall quality of an
individual's life. The various basic dimensions taken under the study are working conditions ,
compensation , training, work environment.QWL programs were conducted in the industries to
take care of employee needs and requirements. Higher the QWL, the better the performance of
the employee is reflected in the growth of the organization. A survey of the available literature
on QWL leads me to the conclusion that there is no universally accepted definition for QWL.
Quality of Work Life (QWL) is generally associated with a series of objective organizational
conditions and practices that enables employees of an organization to perceive that they are
virtually safe, satisfied and have better chances of growth and development as individual human
beings. QWL is nowadays drawing more attention globally as in modern society people spend
about more than one-third of their lives at their workplace. Hence, the eminence and importance
of QWL is unparalleled and unquestionable.
QWL is a way of thinking about people, work and organisations, its distinctive elements are (i) a
concern about the impact of work on people as well as on organisational effectiveness, and (ii)
the idea of participation in organisational problem-solving and decision making.
QWL is viewed as that umbrella under which employees feel fully satisfied with the working
environment and extend their wholehearted co-operation and support to the management to
improve productivity.
Pharmaceutical industries refers to pharmaceutical company, or drug company, is a
commercial business licensed to research, develop, market and/or distribute drugs, most
commonly in the context of healthcare. They can deal in generic and/or brand medications.
The 2 Pharmaceutical industries taken under the study are :
Sun Pharmaceutical Limited
Alembic Pharmaceutical Limited

2.0 Objectives of the Proposed Research Study


 To gain an insight into the working conditions , compensation , training and work
environment of the organization taken under the study.

 To gain an insight into current working time policies and practices.

 To find out the similarities and compare the QWL of the industries taken under the study.

 To suggest the possible approach for future intervention.

3.0 Scope and Coverage of the Proposed Research Study


The study covers the various aspects in employee work life Balance and measured increase in
productivity, accountability, commitment, better team work and communication, improved
morale, less negative organizational stress.

4.0 Research Methodology of the Proposed Research study

4.1 Research Design :


Research design of the proposed project work, considering its objectives, scope and coverage
will be Exploratory i.e. the major emphasis is on the discovery of ideas and insights and
Descriptive in nature i.e. narration of facts and characteristics concerning individual, group or
situation.

4.2 Sources of Information :


The researcher would make the use of both primary data and secondary data sources of
information the case may be.

4.2.1 Primary Data :


The primary data will be obtained from the selected employees of the industry taken
under the study through Questionnaire.

4.2.2 Secondary Data :


The secondary data will be obtained from published and unpublished literature on the
topic and from journal, newspapers, books, websites, magazines, or any other relevant
electronic media.
4.3 Tools of data collection:
The researcher will put to use close - ended Questionnaire.

4.4 Time period of data collection:

Time period of the proposed project work, considering its objectives would be 1 month.

4.5 Sampling :
The researcher proposes to follow various sampling decisions for conducting the research
study which will include the followingː

4.5.1 Universe :

The selected employees drawn from the total number of employees of the different
sections of the company would be selected as the Universe.

4.5.2 Representative Sample :

The data will be collected from the employees and the management of the organization.
Therefore, the information available from the employees and the senior management will
be considered as the sampling frame.

4.5.3 Sample Design & Methods :


Non-probability sampling design based on convenient sampling method will be used. The
researcher would apply convenience sampling methods to draw samples from selected
employees.

5.0 Limitations of the Proposed Research Study


 The time factor in collecting the responses would be a limiting factor.
 As the data may be collected through the questionnaire there may be possibility that
employees may not be fully loyal in answering the questions.
 It is difficult to know whether the willing respondents are truly the representative or not.
