X32 Routing Worksheet

This document introduces routing worksheets to help audio technicians plan and organize their digital mixer's channel routing. It provides blank worksheets for planning physical inputs and outputs, channel assignments, mixbus assignments, and output routing. The instructions explain how to fill out the worksheets to map inputs to physical channels on the mixer and assign channels to the correct busses and outputs. The goal is to have a written workflow for mixer channels to help with organization and efficiency when mixing live audio events.

TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR

DIGITAL MIXER’S CHANNELS

ROUTING
WORKSHEET
FOR INPUTS AND OUTPUTS
OF THE X32 OR M32

Created by Drew Brashler

Welcome to the Routing Worksheet Set!

Thanks so much for joining the group of audio technicians who have a firm grasp of
their channel routing and board workflow!

Over the years of doing digital live audio, I have found that nothing can beat having a written
workflow of your channels. If you are in the planning stages of an upcoming band or complex
service or if you have had the same routing for the last few months, having a written plan of
your channels will ultimately help you be organized and efficient.

This set will give you a variety of different worksheets to help plan your physical inputs and
outputs, as well as your mixbus and DCA assignments, channel routing and also has spots to
notate if channels have a polarity reverse or need phantom power.

I have made these sheets to be fillable in your Adobe Acrobat program to give a professional
feel when printed. If you are in the brainstorming stages, just print off the blank sheets to fill
out with a pencil or a pen! You will be glad you did this planning before the day of the show or
service!

Thank you again for being a part of dBB Audio!

Instructions for use:
You have a couple of options for filling these sheets out: You can either fill them out in any program that can
read .PDF files or you can print them out and fill them out by hand. Either way, it’s best to start is with the
‘Physical Routing & Assignment’ page. This page is left blank for you to write all of the instruments or pieces
of the band that require audio. There are 32 slots on this page, so if you fill it up, you may have too many XLR
inputs! Once you have all of the pieces written down, write what physical input you want each item going to.

Once you have the inputs listed, next you want to think of the layout of your board. I always find that I like
the channels that I am going to be adjusting constantly (like vocals and lead guitar) to be on the 1st layer of
the board. The channels that I will have set and wont be adjusting throughout every song, like the drumset, I
will have on the 2nd layer of the board. This way, I have access to the correct channels at the right time. Don’t
forget to fill out if those channels will require a polarity reverse or phantom power!

Next, copy the ‘Physical Routing & Assignment’ on to the ‘X32 Inputs & Outputs’ page. If you choose to type
into this sheet, it will populate the inputs to the following pages to save you time! Don’t forget to list what
outputs you will need during the show or service. Things like PA Left, PA Right, Subwoofer and In Ear Moni-
tors will need a physical output, so make sure to plan this now.

The ‘X32 Channels’ page will list the channels that you listed from the previous page and you can now make
notes of your microphone or location, phantom power, polarity or any additional notes that you want to
make.

After having all of the channels listed, the ‘Channel Bus & DCA Assignments’ page will help you plan for the
mix busses.

Lastly we will need to plan the outputs. I have included a ‘Matrix’ and ‘Output Routing Destinations’ page to
help plan the output side of the board. You can also list what type of signal tap you will need on the outputs
such as Post Fader, or Pre Fader.

Once you have finished this, print them out and keep them close by! If anyone on your team has a question
about what input to plug something into, direct them to this packet!
