The Importance of Marketing
• Be ause the purpose of business
is to create a customer, the
business enterprise has two–and
only two–basic functions:
marketing and innovation.
• Marketing and innovation produce
results; all the rest are costs.
Marketing is the distinguishing,
unique function of the business.

Nature of Marketing
• It is an economic function of exchange.
• It is a legal process by which ownership is
transferred.
• It is a system of interacting business activities.
• It is a managerial function of organizing and
directing business activities that facilitates the
movement of goods from producers to
consumers.

• It is a philosophy based on consumer
orientation and satisfaction .
• It has dual objectives – profit making &
