Subject : Teaching and learning models in Mathematics
Learning Objectives : In the end of the lesson, students should be able to:-

1. Identify different problem solving

2. Apply Polya’s problem solving model to specific problems

Phase Activities Communications

1. Induction 1. View the problems on PowerPoint slide. - Read the sentences

money did John have at first?

2. Students tell the answer spontaneously. - What will be you learn today?
- Get the answer.

a. Step 1 – Understand the problem - You read and find out the
 What is the question we have to keyword – vehicles, tyres
answer? How many motorcycles
and cars in the police station.
 How many vehicles in the police
station? 25 vehicles.
 How many number of vehicle’s
tyres in police station? 70 tyres.
 How many tyres that motorcycles
have? 2 tyres.
 How many tyres that cars have? 4 - Now, what is the strategy

- Maybe we can choose the

 Ask pupils to fill in the blank.

- So, if there has 10 cars and 15
motorcycles...
- 10 x 4 = 40 and 15 x 2 = 30
- And the total of vehicles are 70

As he grew older, Abraham De Moivre

(1667-1754), a mathematician who helped
in the development of probability,
discovered one day that he had begun to
require 15 minutes more sleep each day.
Based on the assumption that he required
8 hours of sleep on date A and that from
date A he had begun to require an
additonal 15 minutes of sleep each day, he
predicted when he would die. The
predicted date of death was the day when
he would require 24 hours of sleep. If this
indeed happened, how many days did he
live from date A?

Closure
1. Teacher summarizes the learning and 1. What do you learn today?
followed by questioning session. 2.
2. Students are given homework.

Moral values Cooperate, hardwork

EMK : Critical thinking, analysis

Teaching Aids : manila card, marker pen, powerpoint slides
Teaching Reflection : All student could apply Polya’s problem solving model to find the answers.
Teaching session was started with induction to give an ideas to students about
the topic that they will learn. After that, I explained to them about
mathematical problem, routine and non-routine problem and four process of
problem solving. Pupils were participated actively in class whereas they
could find the answer for each problem using the model I taught. Teaching
aids I used were manila card, marker pen and power point slides. In group of
4, students required to discuss and presented their findings. Here, teacher and
students could noticed a different strategies and methods. It proves that
problem solving model helps students to change them as creative person.
The questions also started with the easiest and later the level of difficulty
were added. However, if I got chances to teach this topic again, I will make
element of games to make the students enjoy in solving problem.
