General Instructions:

1. For those who have installed previous versions of PBTools and RPackages, follow the
instructions indicated in Sections A, B and C.

2. For those who are installing PBTools for the first time, follow the instructions indicated in
Section C.

3. Upon launching the newly installed PBTools, the user will be asked to specify his/her
workspace. Please select an empty folder as the workspace.

Section A: Uninstallation of previous version of PBTools

1. Click Start on the Windows task bar, choose All Programs, then click on the PBTools folder
and click the PBTools Uninstaller icon.

2. A dialog as shown below is displayed. Click OK.

3. A dialog that confirms the uninstallation will appear. Click Next.


4. The uninstallation process will begin.

5. When the process is finished. A dialog box as shown below will appear. Click Finish.

6. Go the folder where you previously installed PBTools. Click the PBTools folder. You will see
that after the uninstallation process, not all files were deleted as shown below.

7. To avoid problems when using the latest version of PBTools, delete the entire PBTools
folder.
Section B: Uninstallation of previous version of RPackages

1. Go to the folder where you previously installed RPackages, then click on the RPackages
folder and double-click the uninstall icon .

2. A dialog as shown below is displayed. Click OK.

3. A dialog that confirms the uninstallation will appear. Click Next.

4. The uninstallation process will begin.


5. When the process is finished. A dialog box as shown below will appear. Click Finish.

6. Go the folder where you previously installed RPackages. Click the RPackages folder. You
will see that after the uninstallation process, not all files were deleted as shown below.

7. To avoid problems when using the latest version of RPackages, delete the entire
RPackages folder.
Section C: Installation of the latest versions of RPackages and PBTools

1. Visit bbi.irri.org. Download the installers of PBTools 1.4 and its required R packages by
clicking the links labeled as PBTools 1.4 and R-Packages1.5 at the right-hand side of the
page.

2. Double-click the installer icon to launch the setup. A dialog


as shown below is displayed. Click OK.

3. The next step is the preparation of the wizard. A dialog with progress bar is displayed. Wait
until the preparation is completed.
4. When installing RPackages for the first time, the Welcome dialog as shown below is
displayed. Click Next.

5. Select the destination folder, preferably not in C:\Program Files as problems were
encountered when RPackages is installed in this location. Click Next.
6. Wait until the installation is completed.

7. Click Finish to exit Setup.


8. Double-click the installer icon to launch the setup. A dialog
as shown below is displayed. Click OK.

9. The next step is the preparation of the wizard. A dialog with progress bar is displayed. Wait
until the preparation is completed.

10. When installing PBTools for the first time, the Welcome dialog as shown below is displayed.
Click Next.
11. Select the destination folder, preferably not in C:\Program Files as problems were
encountered when PBTools is installed in this location. Click Next.

12. Select which start menu folder you want to place the PBTools icons in and click Next.
13. Wait until the installation is completed.

14. Finally, specify if you want to create a desktop icon and run PBTools. Click Finish.
