100% Brain Usage To Higher Consciousness

......If our species was meant to do manual tasks with one finger, we
would NOT have been born with ten fingers. If we were meant to use only
10% of our brain cells to lead a happy life, we would not have been born
with 10 times as much to use. In fact, man (Homo sapiens) is the only
creature on earth that does not use its 100% brain capacity. Man also
appears to be the only creature on earth that is in constant disharmony
with its fellow creatures.

......Dolphins have about the same neuronal capacity as man, yet they
live as intelligent, fun-loving and harmonious creatures with their
environment. They use their complete brains, not just a fraction. Is it
too much of an imaginative stretch to assume that the more you use your
brain capacity, the more harmonious your life could be? Can you really
imagine a 100% brain user engaged in crime, war, starvation, disease,
prejudice or environmental destruction? Of course not.

......So in other words, we're creatures that are designed just as


perfectly as every other creature on earth, but we're just not using all
the potential available to us like all other creatures! Why? Could it be
that we no longer know HOW to connect to our "energy source" like all
other creatures? Or is it that we don't care to make the free CHOICE to
do so? Free will is such a confusing thing to 10% brain users controlled
by "knee-jerk" desires of the body! Regardless of the reason for the
brain neglect though, it's the use it or lose it axiom at work here,
because average human beings are losing over 100,000 brain cells every
day due to disuse or misuse. The more a person neglects using his brain
potential, the more his condition is likely to worsen! Is there any
wonder why there are diseases such as Alzheimer's, dementia, senility,
Parkinson's and other brain disorders increasing in a disproportionate
rate to our global population growth?

......What is the solution? Can we really use 100% of our brains and
improve the quality of our lives? Of course we can. Instead of having
memory loss, we can become memory wizards. Instead of being stymied by
the simplest problems, we can become creative "geniuses." Instead of not
being able to balance our checkbooks, we can become lightning
calculators. Instead of being dull to our sensory world, we can become
enlivened and truly conscious about our sensory environment. Instead of
being "stuck" in unhappy emotional ruts all our lives, we can learn to
get along with our fellow creatures in complete and diversified harmony!

......Everything in life is only as difficult as you think it is. Low


self-esteem has become especially prevalent in the U.S. Why?
Externalized reasons are often proffered by people as to why they are
the way they are -- deprived childhood, no money, bad breaks in life or
simply the people around them. Yet, in every deprived situation, there
are salient individuals that have had meager beginnings and nevertheless
develop stable, happy lives. They learned that it is more rewarding to
grow and develop themselves.
......As one grows in self-awareness, the realization slowly unfolds
that one's own condition is brought about by oneself and one's own
choices in life, whether they are gut reactive, knee-jerk choices or
conscious choices. Whatever you were dealt with at birth, your choices
throughout your life determine your outcome. The more complete the usage
of both your mind and body -- the more physically and mentally able you
become, and the better you feel about yourself, too. In so doing, your
spiritual development cannot help but evolve a higher consciousness
state as well.

......Many people get so "stuck" in daily routines and knee-jerk


patterns of behavior that they often never see the many opportunities
and alternatives around them every day. To begin the process of
stimulating your 100% brain, practice the following 7 brain gymnastic
drills for seven days and see for yourself the progress you can make in
such a short span of time. Each drill touches upon a different area of
your brain.

1) Get used to your body in new ways. Switch your handedness and comb
your hair, brush your teeth, stir your coffee or do other simple tasks
with your non-dominant hand. Close your eyes and "sense" your way slowly
around a room. Get truly conscious of the sounds and smells in the space
around you. Also, use your feet to pick up things, flush the toilet or
close a door. Read a page in a book held vertically and then upside
down!

2) Where normally you would criticize someone, find something to


compliment them on instead! Suspend your judgment about that person as
well, and view him (her) as simply another human being with different
viewpoints than your own.

3) Look in your refrigerator briefly, but thoroughly. Then close the


door and enumerate the items contained therein. Do the same with a room
of your house, a store front window or a detailed picture on the wall.

4) For 5 minutes every day, put yourself in another person's shoes and
view things from another person's perspective for a change and see how
it feels. Suspend your judgment about that person as well. Pretend
you're an actor and taking on the part of that person in exact demeanor
and manner. Feel how it feels!!

5) Whenever you catch yourself worrying, doubting or looking down on


yourself, think instead of what you most want out of life in complete
detail, and affirm to yourself the achievement of same. Replay this
positive inner movie whenever negative thoughts intrude during your day.

6) At the end of every daily hour, review what happened to you during
the previous 60 minutes. This is good practice for getting more mindful
throughout your day, and should only take seconds to do. At day's end,
mentally review all the events that happened to you throughout the day
up to your present point. Memory gaps about your day's events reveal
unconscious moments.

7) To develop flexibility and adaptability to change in your life, do


something different every day. Shop at a different store. Take a
different route home. Bake a pie or a loaf of bread. Involve yourself in
a new game or sport, like roller skating, bowling, karate or sky diving.
Introduce yourself to a new neighbor. Sameness every day is a death
knell to your brain. For more complete usage of your brain, diverse
stimulation is the key. It also gets you unstuck from habits and ruts
that are bringing you unfavorable results.

........ Do you usually associate a healthy person with low energy? Of


course not! People with high life energy are usually very healthy, and
those with low life energy are susceptible to low health. With this in
mind, it would stand to reason that you would naturally want to increase
your chi energy in every possible way to optimize your chances of
excellent health, right? You know when you feel weak and sickly or when
you feel strong and healthy, but how can you measure your own energy
level? Do you even know what specifically causes the highs and lows in
your energy amplitude?

........ People sleep to renew their life energy. The more relaxed their
rest and sleep, the more easily their energy is increased. What other
factors are involved with your energy level? Nutrition, emotions,
posture, water quality, breathing, exercise, music, aromas, your
thoughts and your deeds or simply seeing a movie can all have a bearing
on your energy level. One of the most important factors related to your
energy level though is your sense of purpose. One reason why many
elderly folks lose their vitality for living is because of retirement!
Work provides people with a sense of purpose, and when their work is
removed, their energy level can drop dramatically. So find some purpose
for your life - charity work, a new vocation or avocation, a goal, a
hobby or a pursuit you always wanted to take up, or better yet, tune
into your spiritual reason for being here. When your life has purpose,
you will not only feel better about yourself, but your energy level will
rise as well.

........ Understand that all factors are interrelated too, so if you


improve one, the others must also improve. For instance, if you are
nutrition oriented, beginning a diet of raw organic vegetables will
increase your chi energy level, and in turn you¹ll also begin noticing
improvement in your breathing, your posture, your emotions and the music
you prefer. If you are exercise oriented, beginning a daily routine of
good exercise and deep belly breathing will increase your energy level
too, and in turn your nutrition, your emotions and your posture will
tend to improve as well! Exercise also works well with children having a
low self-esteem. Statistics have shown that creating basketball courts
or gymnasiums in poverty stricken neighborhoods lowers crime and drug
addiction in those neighborhoods.

........ To raise your spirits, raise your life energy level. If you
feel down in any way, exercise for 30 minutes or do deep connected
breathing for several minutes or watch an action packed movie or do
something else to raise your energy level. Improving the mental and
emotional attitude that you carry with you every day can allow your
energy to flow in better harmony. Some people block the flow of the
available energy around them with negative thought patterns they create
and project from themselves, like worry, doubt, anger, fear, hatred,
depression, etc. When you are frequently objecting, saying 'no' or
saying 'I can't,' you block the energy flow, and place boundaries,
restrictions and limitations around yourself.

........ You can eat the best of organic foods and take all the best
supplements with the best water and still have a low chi energy level by
feeling lousy about yourself and those around you! Once you change your
emotional attitude and start thinking better about yourself, then good
nutrition, better posture, better breathing, good exercise, good music
and a good environment can benefit in raising your life energy level
too! At least, open yourself to the possibility of having higher energy
and that alone will help to relieve some of your blocks to it!

........ We are constantly engulfed in a sea of energy, whether it¹s


from the earth, the sun or the life forms around us. When we accept the
things that happen to us and know we have created our own circumstances,
we flow with the process in that understanding. When we flow in harmony
with the natural energies around us, we tune into and feel the oneness
of everything. We synchronize our energy level with such harmony. We can
always express our preferences, but our choices in life produce the
results we get. Our lives always reflect the choices we make. Acceptance
allows flowingness. Objection blocks the process.

........ Just as a booing, critical audience can deflate the energy


level of a speaker, athletes know that cheering from a crowd can
increase their energy level for a better performance. The excitement of
a crowd is very contagious. By suffusing your essence with excitement,
enthusiasm and positive words, thoughts and actions, you can increase
your own energy level, even if you do so artificially! Weight lifters
know this so they pump themselves up with positive thoughts and words
before they lift a heavy weight.

........ To bring balance and harmony in your life, associate yourself


with factors that will benefit and help you. Do things with a total
involved feeling of enjoyment rather than a mechanistic or disheartened
feeling. Every time you harmonize your energy system with wholesome

breathing and relaxation, the easier it is to draw from the universal

Improving Your Creative Thinking Skills

........Do you think in a restricted or an expanded capacity? Billions


of dollars are spent on product advertising each year because
advertising works. When you break down a typical ad into its ridiculous
components though, you see quickly that it is NOT geared to the
thinking, conscious individual, because consumer buying is primarily
done on emotional impulse. By improving your thinking skills, you become
less susceptible to emotionally directed advertisements.

........Creative thinking and problem solving go hand in hand. For many


years, Dr. Edward de Bono, a psychologist and professor of investigative
medicine at Cambridge University, promoted the field of creative
thinking under the logo Lateral Thinking. Vertical thinking proceeds
when you solve a problem by going from one logical step to the next in
achieving a solution. Lateral thinking depicts the type of thinking that
comes with seeking solutions to problems through unorthodox methods or
playing games with the data.

........Expanding your mental capacity with creative thinking can


improve with practice. For instance, lay six stick matches on the table
and make four equal sided triangles out of them. After struggling
fruitlessly in 2 dimensions, you soon learn that a 3-dimensional
tetrahedron is the only way to accomplish the task. Learn to "think
wild." Let yourself imagine all kinds of possibilities and alternatives,
including those you would ordinarily consider impractical or ridiculous.
For instance, try thinking about the exact opposite of what normally
comes to mind when posed with a problem, then elaborate on it from
there.

........ If you have an opinion and another person has an opposite point
of view, visualize yourself in the other person's shoes for a change.
List all the reasons why his opinion is valid; then list all the reasons
why his opinion is invalid; and finally list all the irrelevant points.
Many people become stymied by getting embroiled in describing,
complaining and criticizing another person's viewpoint, instead of
directing their thinking toward action and deciding what can be done
about the situation.

........ More than half of the world's greatest discoveries have been
made through 'serendipity' or the finding of one thing while looking for
something else; but remember, it takes a creatively aware person to
recognize an opportunity when it presents itself. In emergencies, people
tend to panic instead of using their head to determine their options.

........Many people hold opinions or views because they're blocked with


emotional or prejudicial reasons. By expanding your scope to include the
opposite viewpoint from your position, you often become quickly
unblocked. While the U.S. leads the world in crime, drug addiction and
indebtedness, Japan has little crime and drug addiction, and is the most
solvent and educated nation in the world. Do you think emotional and
prejudicial reasons keep U.S. officials blocked from learning from
Japan's example or are there other reasons?

........Now discuss with a partner the opposite of the following


assumptions to see where it leads you. Open your mind and think wild.

An Example of an Assumption Proffered by Officials:


With the millions of dollars spent on AIDS research, there is still no
permanent cure that has yet been found for the disease.

Opposite Considerations and the Reasons Behind Them: •The cure that has
been found is too inexpensive and permanent and therefore it cannot
afford a payback of the expense already outlaid. •The disease is
actually wanted by world controlling groups to eliminate undesirables
and maintain fear in global populations. •An expensive, impermanent
non-cure is really desired to secure a more continuous flow of revenue
off of patients that can afford it. •By NOT revealing the cure for AIDS,
the disease can be allowed to proliferate to overwhelming proportions,
where only martial law with dictatorial edicts can maintain population
control. •More money can be made looking for a cure than finding a cure,
so all permanent cures must be suppressed.

Now find your own opposite considerations for the following assumptions:

Give yourself 5 minutes on each of the following Assumptions Proffered


By Officials: •Pesticides ingested with your fruits and vegetables are
too negligible to cause you any health problem. •Better education in
public schools will take another 10 years or more to put into effect. •
The unhealthy pollutants in the drinking water of many U.S. cities will
simply cost too much to correct. •U.S. officials are attempting to
curtail the flow of narcotics in the nation.
........ Learn to define your aims, goals and objectives in life's
situations. Make a list of all your reasons for doing a particular
thing. Even though you assume that you know what your goals are, often
hidden or unconsidered goals get in the way. Without a clarity of
purpose, all actions are either reactions to a situation or matters of
habit or imitation. For example, a tennis player that keeps delivering
kill shots into the net might think his goal was to win the game, but in
reality it might be just an undetected desire to look terrific.

........In England & Venezuela, Dr. de Bono has made great headway in
initiating lateral thinking courses in public schools. Why is the U.S.
so disinterested in such education? Could it be that less money could be
made off of thinking citizens than gut oriented citizens? Think about
it!

........One man though has made some headway within the U.S. school
systems -- Dr. C. Samuel Micklus. With his wife Carole, they have
developed a program called Odyssey of the Mind (OM). The Odyssey of the
Mind Program, under the auspices of OM Association, Inc., a
not-for-profit corporation, promotes divergent thinking in students from
kindergarten through college. It is a program that offers students a
unique opportunity to participate in challenging and creative activities
both inside and outside their regular classroom curriculum. In OM teams,
students develop self-confidence in creating solutions, evaluating their

Self-Healing and Your 100% Brain

........All living things are inherently equipped to have a complete,


self-sufficient and healthy life. Ill health is an unnatural state.
Unless living organisms are deprived of essential needs or have suffered
injuries, they are intrinsically prepared to be free of disease. The
healing process of an organism is within each living system itself, just
like the process of respiration, digestion, secretion and reproduction.
Health is a natural state, because it is harmony and balance. It is
homeostasis. What makes Homo sapiens different from other living
creatures regarding health? The answer is primarily emotional attitude,
and the failure to use completely all of its species' brain potential!
........In June, 1971, a Psychology Today article discussed 2 major
groups of people in the world - those that believe their life is
controlled by external influences and those that believe that what
happens to them is all primarily self-generated and internally
controllable.

........Internals tend to be more self-confident, wealthier,


better-educated and more readily able to avoid or give up addictions.
Externals feel their fates are in the hands of others, their environment
or simply a matter of chance. They tend to be suspicious, less
aggressive and less leadership-oriented than internals. Externals also
greatly outnumber internals in the general population.

........Perhaps to pander to externally driven individuals, modern-day


medicine men persist in promoting the idea of externality over
internality. Doctors have often been irritated when the placebo effect
has interrupted their control experiments and patients react just as
strongly to sugar pills as the real thing, but doesn't this illustrate
the dramatic effect the mind can have on the body through the internal
power of belief?

........The nocebo effect is a term that illustrates a negative effect


because of the power of belief. The nocebo is when you give a normally
"effective" drug to a patient, but there is no response because the
doctor has convinced the patient the drug wouldn't work or was just
water. Anything can serve as a nocebo just as anything can serve as a
placebo -- medication, location, doctor's manner, etc. For instance, if
you were told you had a heart disease, and believed it, you might easily
die of it -- even if later it was found that your lab test results were
mistakenly switched with another patient's. Could good health be as
simple as -- "If you believe you deserve to be healthy and expect to be,
you will be?!"

........Suppose for a moment that the only reason anybody has or does
not have a "curative" effect via a therapeutic method is because of
his(her) belief about it! Even though medical school students learn very
early that 40% or more of all their future patients will have primarily
psychosomatic symptoms, they often discount the importance of the mind
in healing the body. Ever since Mesmer, hypnotists have demonstrated the
power of the mind to control pain and affliction in the body.
Unfortunately, most people believe that their lives are controlled by
external influences, so an outside source is usually sought for the
treatment or cure of any ailment. Self-healing and faith healing thus
share something in common. Internals believe their healing is largely
self-generated, and externals find it easier to believe in something or
someone outside themselves as the primary cause for the healing process.
Of course, both are drawing from the same internal well, but from
different perspectives.

........ Christian Science practitioners refuse surgical operations on


serious ailments -- even cancer -- because of their belief structure of
mind over matter through their spiritual connection. Why do they believe
this? How can you reduce or eliminate your ailments through your inner
source connection? First of all, you should have the awareness or
realization that every particle and atom in the universe is connected in
some way to every other particle. With simply the power of a thought
visualization, you can rearrange the atoms in your body to produce a
healthy condition. You can consciously feel, integrate and manipulate
your cellular structure through the power of your thoughts. You can
visualize the ailment diminishing and diminishing until finally the
excretory system carries it away. This imaging process then transforms
itself into reality. The prayers of others can also help to resonate the
process to make the metamorphosis more complete. In the East, yogis and
lamas use similar visualizations to achieve the same result. They may
even add to the process by vibrating their inner tissues with a chant,
like 'Aum-m-m,' or assist the process with "sound toning" of the body's
tissues.

........In 1975, Dr. Robert Ader of the University of Rochester, coined


the word psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) to describe the subject of how the
mind influences the body's well-being. PNI delves into the realm of how
neurological pathways link the immune system and the brain. When there
is disharmony in the mind/body interchange, physical and mental disease
manifest themselves, even if only psychosomatically.

........Why do people vary so much in how they respond to illness?


Research has shown that there are genetic, nutritional and mind set
differences. Although genetic engineering is making some medical
headway, nutritional and attitudinal changes in personal behavior can be
addressed by anyone. By changing their nutrition and personal attitude,
some people stricken with cancer or AIDS, have actually dissipated such
disease from their systems. These people often change from repressing
their emotions to expressing their emotions outwardly in an honest way.
Instead of remaining in a job or relationship that they don't like, they
decide to be honest with themselves & others, and do only what they feel
will make them happier. By doing what makes you happy, you don't
internalize the destructive emotions that can help to develop in
physical disease and mental disorder. Expressing yourself honestly
becomes a release. Fears, blocks and objections are replaced with the
courage to live and respond to the adventures and challenges of every
new day. By practicing the things that supercharge your immune system --
meditation, guided imagery, self-hypnosis, positive affirmation, relaxed

........Honestly expressing your feelings and loving yourself can boost


your natural immune system quickly. An improved immune system can in
turn defeat pathogenic invaders of the body and also give you a better
response to the challenges of age. In a 1986 study, psychologist James
W. Pennebaker of Southern Methodist Univ. found that students were
happier and healthier when they confided to others their own personal
traumas as opposed to those students who did not do so, or only
recounted trivial matters to others.

........Since your emotional attitude has a direct relationship to your


immune system, a person who expresses happiness, laughter, love,
friendliness and helpfulness is far less likely to contract disease than
a person who is angry, fearful, hateful, depressed or worrisome. Why?
Because a positive emotional attitude is more harmonious with good
health than a negative attitude. It is also interesting how this concept
is simply common sense to an internally driven person, but utterly
ridiculous to an external.

........What affects the immune system? What builds the immune system
back up? If it could be measured with an instrument, your immune system
would show variations from day to day, from meal to meal and even from
thought to thought. Your susceptibility to disease also varies in
conjunction with your immune system. Since our bodies are sheathed in
electromagnetic energies, electric medicine (including acupuncture) has
shown a lot of promise in restoring a healthy condition to your body.
Full-spectrum illumination is better than the debilitating effects of
ordinary fluorescent lighting. Negative ions, whole natural foods,
guided imagery, positive affirmations, herbs and a more stable,
emotional attitude all can affect your natural immune system in a
beneficial way.

........In a study of women with breast cancer, those who saw themselves
as receiving or having support had a greater immune activity and lived
twice as long as those that didn't feel they had such support. Those
women who had more emotional distress had a reduced immune activity as
measured by the number of natural killer cells in their systems.
Disease-fighting approaches that can harmonize and balance our bodies
and minds must be adopted for the 21st century. PNI is the new science
that could very well revolutionize medical care. Just as Hippocrates
once said, "It is more important to know what sort of person has a
disease than to know what sort of disease a person has."

........Is a person in a happy, confident, loving, positive frame of


mind using more brain potential than a person in an angry, fearful,
depressed, negative state of mind? Although brain function is just
beginning to be better understood, research has shown that the higher
cerebral areas of the brain are more involved with the positive states
of mind than with the negative states. Robert Ornstein and David Sobel
propose in their book, The Healing Brain, that the major role of the
brain is "to mind the body and maintain health." Is there a link between
unused brain potential, a negative lifestyle and overall ill health?
Could using more brain potential in a holistic way allow people to lead
a more healthy and happy life? PET, CAT and MRI brain scans have
revealed lower metabolic activity via less glucose intake and blood flow
in the cerebral cortex of seriously depressed and mentally ill
individuals. Brain cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and senility are
brain maladies on a disproportionate rise to the population increase in
the U.S. Brain scans also reveal large areas of cerebral tissue inactive
in such patients. Does lack of brain usage contribute to such diseases?

........As an exercise to revitalize your overall condition, assume a


comfortable, relaxed position and take a few deep, abdominal breaths.
Close your eyes and relax all parts of your body progressively from your
toes to your head. Begin breathing slowly through your nose and say to
yourself, "I am breathing in vital, health-giving, positive energy."
Visualize a positive current of bright, yellow sun energy flowing
through you with a tingling sensation, and radiating from every pore in
your body. Feel yourself filling with love, appreciation, joy,
compassion, forgiveness and contentment. Now slowly exhale through your
mouth and say to yourself, "I am exhaling stale, devitalized, negative
energy." Visualize a negative current of cool, blue moon energy being
expelled from your body. Feel yourself letting go of all fear, anger,
guilt, depression, worry, loneliness and harmful emotion. Visualize
yourself with a complete body and mind that is whole and well. Notice
the mental clarity, and relish the experience of freedom, joy and
personal power spreading over you. Do this energizing technique at least
10 minutes in the beginning of each day or whenever you feel down or
"under the weather" in some way. You'll feel immediate benefits from it.

........ Psychoneuroimmunology addresses the issue of the mind's ability


to heal the body. When you consciously or subconsciously replay negative
thought patterns in your mind, it can easily lock your mind into a
negative state like a loop tape, which in turn can encourage bodily
cells to respond negatively as well. A simple exercise in concentration
can do wonders in breaking a negative condition, and it can also give
you immediate relief!

........Choose an object, a geometric design, a picture or a candle


flame, and while in a relaxed position, direct your TOTAL conscious
awareness toward observing it. Empty your mind of all thoughts and
distractions as if nothing else existed except that object or picture.
Purposefully blank your mind of internal comments, evaluations or stray
pictures. Do this for 60 seconds without interruption. If an
interruptive thought occurs, or your conscious awareness fleets even for
a moment to an extraneous sound or other sensory stimuli, start over
again, but do this for one full minute. To illustrate, look at the black
dot in the middle of the circle for 1 full minute without distraction.

........As simple as this exercise sounds, you'll be surprised how


casual thoughts or interruptions will try to creep into your mind.
Concentration in this way does not mean grimacing with a frown on your
face. It simply involves a relaxed focalization on one subject only.
Once you accomplish this externally, do the same exercise internally
with your eyes closed. Look at the subject matter first, then close your
eyes and see it in your mind's eye.

........This technique rotates the mind's resonance from negative to


neutral to positive, where a feeling of relief is felt. Afterwards, care
must be taken not to have the same negative thought sequences shift you
back again. Even getting close to doing this exercise correctly will
bring about good results, so practice it a lot.

Lucid Dreaming Can Be Learned & Utilized

........The rapid-eye-movement (REM) phase of sleep is where most dreams
occur. Even fetuses and newborns experience REM (rapid eye movement)
sleep, so the Freudian notion that all dreams are sexually motivated has
become antiquated. Except for the eyes, there is generally great
muscular inhibition during the REM state, and dreamers are virtually
paralyzed. This response differs markedly from conscious visualizations.

........Dreams are ordinarily spontaneous and representative of


subconscious meanderings. They can also be a psychological release of
tension. As far back as Biblical times, dreams have symbolically carried
meaning ("... and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that
could interpret them unto Pharaoh." Gen. 41:8). Since dreams are often
veiled in symbolism, it can be important to record your dreams and
periodically review them to acquaint yourself with any interpretive
parallels happening in your life. After interpreting your own
subconscious symbolism, dreams can open themselves up to a personal
enjoyment instead of a perplexing experience.

........The term lucid dreaming describes the experience of recognizing


during a dream that you are dreaming. By involving your conscious
awareness in a subconscious activity, you can learn to control the
content of your dream and its course of action. You will also remember
such dreams more easily. Dreams to a lucid dreamer are often more vivid
than simple visualizations. Objects and people appear to be and feel
solid, and the dreamer is often able to converse intelligently with his
own dream characters. Lucid dreamers can create or eliminate characters
and items within the dream by simply wanting to do so. You also have
access to your short term and long term memories as well. In dreams, you
can even levitate or fly. So if you're ever in doubt of your dream
state, try flying as a test.

........After trying several approaches, one researcher was able to


induce a state of lucidity in dreamers by giving a mild electric shock
through the skin to the median nerve at the wrist. Earlier research
showed that such stimulation was often incorporated into dreams,
directly or indirectly. Subjects had previously been given pre-sleep
instructions to recognize the impulses and at that point consider
whether they were dreaming. The experiment worked so well that a
portable "dream machine" was subsequently developed that detected REM
sleep and automatically gave electrical impulses to the dreamer to
trigger lucidity.

........A Malaysian tribe called the Senoi revolves much of its culture
around dreams. At an early age, Senoi parents question their children
closely about their dreams. The children are taught early how to control
individual factors in their dreams and to bring about beneficial
outcomes. By consciously manipulating their subconscious dreams, the
Senoi manifest positive results in the waking world and resolve their
daily problems more readily.

........One technique to achieving a lucid dream state is to ask


yourself the question, "Is this a dream?" or "Am I dreaming?" 10 to 20
times just before falling asleep. The conscious repetitiveness of the
question will eventually be submerged into the subconscious dream state.
Reflecting cognitively upon such a question in the dream state will
result in some form of conscious intervention and awareness, and hence a
lucid dream state will be achieved. As a variation of the former method,
simply count and affirm just before retiring, "I am dreaming, One" -- "I
am dreaming, Two" and so on. Attending to the counting process keeps
your conscious awareness vigilant to what you intend to do. For those
people who tend to fall asleep rapidly, this method can have you
counting straight into dreamland. Another method is to reiterate over
and over to yourself just before going to sleep, "I will recognize that
I am dreaming when I am dreaming" or "Tonight, I will be consciously
aware of my dream." You can also use a stimulus response link. For
instance just before going to sleep, look at your hand while reiterating
to yourself over and over, "When I see my hand in my dream, I will know
I am dreaming."

........For recurring nightmares or fearful dreams, intensely visualize


yourself actively in a more preferred scenario just before falling
asleep. Imagine yourself initiating actions in the manner that is most
beneficial to you so that the stage is set for the subconscious to rerun
the same play in your favor. Combine your visualization with the
suggestion that you are in control of your dream and that there is
nothing to fear. Eventually your imagery process will merge into a dream
process and positive results will be achieved.

........Using the above techniques will produce an ability to achieve


lucid dreaming in 4 to 5 weeks or less. After achieving a lucid dream
state, act only as a casual observer at first or the condition might
quickly dissipate into wakefulness. Slowly integrate into your dreams
volitional control and alterations, and soon full dream mastery will be
achieved. If you avoid whimsical notions, you can design purposeful
meaning to your dreams and achieve in the dream state that which you
want in the real world. If you want positive episodes to happen in the
real world, you can now create dreams about them first.

........There is a right to left brain shift during the night after 45


minutes; then a left to right shift after another 45 minutes.
Consequently, every 90 minutes, there is a storm of neuronal activity in
the right brain as it goes into its REM dream cycle for several minutes.
Not surprisingly, the same brain cycle follows throughout the day as
well, hence the periodic tendency toward daydreaming. Ever notice how
sometimes you're more prone to daydreaming while reading than at other
times? Daydreams often occur spontaneously throughout the day and are
also subconsciously oriented. They sometimes guide your thought patterns
toward a preoccupation into a negative line of thinking. Since daydreams
are more easily interrupted, practice observing them when they occur.
Then interject your conscious influence over the flow and outcome of the
daydreams by directing them into a more positive result. If daydreams
are too elusive to manage, begin with conjured up visualizations that
you can create for yourself. Devise an imagined script and story and
produce your own inner plays. Research has shown that lucid dreamers are
more likely than non-lucid dreamers to have dreams that are positive,
successful or filled with good fortune. It makes sense, doesn't it? If
you can control the flow and outcome of your dream, why would you want a
negative one?

........Becoming suddenly conscious in a lucid dream could also shed


some light on the physiological activity connected with consciousness.
What happens in the brain at that exact moment of lucidity? The state
could also be useful for self-therapy by providing realistic settings
for people who have phobias.

AMBIDEXTERITY EXERCISE

......Ambidexterity is the ability to use both your hands with equal


ease or facility, but if you're armless, it could be your feet! In fact,
it is quite advantageous in certain sports and martial arts to be able
to use both your feet with equal facility. The Greeks encouraged and
tried to promote ambidexterity because it was simply logical in sports
and battle to be adept with both hands instead of one. By combining the
Phoenician style of writing right to left with their own left to right
system, the Greeks created a reading and writing system called
boustrophedon, where the lines ran alternately right-to-left and
left-to-right. With alternating sweeps of the eyes back and forth,
reading was more swift and efficient.

......Michelangelo (1475-1564) was a multi-faceted genius like Leonardo


da Vinci. He often painted with both hands. When one got tired, he
switched to the other. British artist, Sir Edwin Henry Landseer
(1802-1873) could draw with both hands simultaneously -- a horse's head
with one hand and a stag's head with the other. He taught drawing and
etching to Queen Victoria who was a lefty that became ambidextrous.

......Fleming, Einstein and Tesla were all ambidextrous. Benjamin


Franklin was also ambidextrous and signed the Declaration of
Independence and the Constitution with his left hand. U.S. 20th
president, James Garfield was a well educated backwoodsman born in a log
cabin. Although he could write with either hand with equal ease, he
could also write Greek with his left hand and Latin with his right hand
simultaneously! Harry Kahne demonstrated his mental dexterity in 1922 by
performing several mental operations simultaneously. While one hand was
writing mirror language, the other hand intermingled upside down and
backward letters.

......Rats given diverse and enriched environments have more connective


dendritic spines to their neurons and overall heavier brains than rats
exposed to dull, unchallenging environments. Left-handed and
ambidextrous people have 11% larger corpus callosa (the bundle of nerve
fibers joining the right and left sides of the brain) than right handed
people. An autopsy of Einstein's brain revealed a larger profusion of
superficial capillaries interlacing the cerebral cortex than the average
brain, as well as an additional amount of glial cells. Obviously the
more we use and exercise our brain, the more it physically grows. The
following exercises are designed to task the little used areas of the
brain to allow such growth.
......To be able to use both hands equally well, practice is the key.
During the day, use your left hand more (if you're right-handed) by
consciously switching when you're about ready to do something -- pouring
a glass of milk, bouncing a ball, flipping and picking up coins,
hammering a nail, cutting and buttering bread, stirring your coffee,
swirling water in a glass, twisting off bottle caps, etc. Wherever you
would use your one hand, use the other instead -- putting a key in the
door, combing your hair, brushing your teeth, shaving, grasping objects,
etc. When putting on your clothes, put your other hand or foot into the
garment first. Thread your belt around your waist in the opposite
direction. Put your watch on your other hand. Use your other hand in
sports -- hitting a baseball or a tennis ball, throwing a football,
shooting a basketball, etc. Practice stirring 2 cups of tea
simultaneously, swirling 2 half filled glasses of water clockwise and
counterclockwise, and bouncing two balls at the same time. Get used to
the kinesthetic feeling of using the muscles of both your hands and arms
together. Catch 2 balls thrown to you at the same time. Throw 2 paper
wads at the same time into the same paper basket -- one underhand and
the other overhand. Throw 2 darts simultaneously at a dart board with
both hands. Write with both hands at the same time. Draw a butterfly, a
vase or a geometric figure using both hands simultaneously, but keep
practicing these exercises.

......Many musical instruments are played ambidextrously, and many


athletes are adept at using both of their hands. Since swimming is an
ambidextrous activity, teaching dyslectic children to swim often helps
them to read and write normally because it balances the brain
hemispheres. Become ambidextrous and along with an added physiological
brain growth, a more balanced integration of your 2 hemispheres will be
achieved. Studies have shown that ambidextrous people are more
emotionally independent, more determined, more adaptable to new
situations and more apt to handle problems without giving up.

......If our species was meant to do manual tasks with one finger, we
would NOT have been born with ten fingers. If we were meant to use only
10% of our brain cells to lead a happy life, we would not have been born
with 10 times as much to use. In fact, man (Homo sapiens) is the only
creature on earth that does not use its 100% brain capacity. Man also
appears to be the only creature on earth that is in constant disharmony
with its fellow creatures.

......Dolphins have about the same neuronal capacity as man, yet they
live as intelligent, fun-loving and harmonious creatures with their
environment. They use their complete brains, not just a fraction. Is it
too much of an imaginative stretch to assume that the more you use your
brain capacity, the more harmonious your life could be? Can you really
imagine a 100% brain user engaged in crime, war, starvation, disease,
prejudice or environmental destruction? Of course not.

......So in other words, we're creatures that are designed just as


perfectly as every other creature on earth, but we're just not using all
the potential available to us like all other creatures! Why? Could it be
that we no longer know HOW to connect to our "energy source" like all
other creatures? Or is it that we don't care to make the free CHOICE to
do so? Free will is such a confusing thing to 10% brain users controlled
by "knee-jerk" desires of the body! Regardless of the reason for the
brain neglect though, it's the use it or lose it axiom at work here,
because average human beings are losing over 100,000 brain cells every
day due to disuse or misuse. The more a person neglects using his brain
potential, the more his condition is likely to worsen! Is there any
wonder why there are diseases such as Alzheimer's, dementia, senility,
Parkinson's and other brain disorders increasing in a disproportionate
rate to our global population growth?

......What is the solution? Can we really use 100% of our brains and
improve the quality of our lives? Of course we can. Instead of having
memory loss, we can become memory wizards. Instead of being stymied by
the simplest problems, we can become creative "geniuses." Instead of not
being able to balance our checkbooks, we can become lightning
calculators. Instead of being dull to our sensory world, we can become
enlivened and truly conscious about our sensory environment. Instead of
being "stuck" in unhappy emotional ruts all our lives, we can learn to
get along with our fellow creatures in complete and diversified harmony!

......Everything in life is only as difficult as you think it is. Low


self-esteem has become especially prevalent in the U.S. Why?
Externalized reasons are often proffered by people as to why they are
the way they are -- deprived childhood, no money, bad breaks in life or
simply the people around them. Yet, in every deprived situation, there
are salient individuals that have had meager beginnings and nevertheless

......As one grows in self-awareness, the realization slowly unfolds


that one's own condition is brought about by oneself and one's own
choices in life, whether they are gut reactive, knee-jerk choices or
conscious choices. Whatever you were dealt with at birth, your choices
throughout your life determine your outcome. The more complete the usage
of both your mind and body -- the more physically and mentally able you
become, and the better you feel about yourself, too. In so doing, your
spiritual development cannot help but evolve a higher consciousness
state as well.

......Many people get so "stuck" in daily routines and knee-jerk


patterns of behavior that they often never see the many opportunities
and alternatives around them every day. To begin the process of
stimulating your 100% brain, practice the following 7 brain gymnastic
drills for seven days and see for yourself the progress you can make in
such a short span of time. Each drill touches upon a different area of
your brain.

1) Get used to your body in new ways. Switch your handedness and comb
your hair, brush your teeth, stir your coffee or do other simple tasks
with your non-dominant hand. Close your eyes and "sense" your way slowly
around a room. Get truly conscious of the sounds and smells in the space
around you. Also, use your feet to pick up things, flush the toilet or
close a door. Read a page in a book held vertically and then upside
down!

2) Where normally you would criticize someone, find something to


compliment them on instead! Suspend your judgment about that person as
well, and view him (her) as simply another human being with different
viewpoints than your own.

3) Look in your refrigerator briefly, but thoroughly. Then close the


door and enumerate the items contained therein. Do the same with a room
of your house, a store front window or a detailed picture on the wall.

4) For 5 minutes every day, put yourself in another person's shoes and
view things from another person's perspective for a change and see how
it feels. Suspend your judgment about that person as well. Pretend
you're an actor and taking on the part of that person in exact demeanor
and manner. Feel how it feels!!

5) Whenever you catch yourself worrying, doubting or looking down on


yourself, think instead of what you most want out of life in complete
detail, and affirm to yourself the achievement of same. Replay this
positive inner movie whenever negative thoughts intrude during your day.

6) At the end of every daily hour, review what happened to you during
the previous 60 minutes. This is good practice for getting more mindful
throughout your day, and should only take seconds to do. At day's end,
mentally review all the events that happened to you throughout the day
up to your present point. Memory gaps about your day's events reveal
unconscious moments.

7) To develop flexibility and adaptability to change in your life, do


something different every day. Shop at a different store. Take a
different route home. Bake a pie or a loaf of bread. Involve yourself in
a new game or sport, like roller skating, bowling, karate or sky diving.
Introduce yourself to a new neighbor. Sameness every day is a death
knell to your brain. For more complete usage of your brain, diverse
stimulation is the key. It also gets you unstuck from habits and ruts
that are bringing you unfavorable results.

.......In this hectic fast pace world, accelerated learning techniques
are becoming increasingly more necessary. Learning through time
distortion is harnessing the subconscious through conscious direction.

experience a sense of time distortion as information flashes through
their mind in only seconds. Through self-hypnosis, you too can learn to
review information in a time distorted fashion.

.......As an example, one concert violinist put herself into a


self-hypnotic trance and through self-induced time distortion practiced
her music in several different ways. By "playing" the difficult spots
mentally, it helped her finger memory to improve in speed and accuracy.
She was able to review long pieces over and over in very brief "world"
time periods, and her technique and technical performance improved

person. Some people have experienced their whole life flash before their
eyes in a matter of seconds just prior to a sudden death-risking
situation. Also dream researchers have discovered that a one minute
dream sometimes feels like hours to a dreamer. In one experiment,
hypnotized subjects were given imaginary tasks to perform in their minds
-- like designing a dress and preparing a complicated meal. They were
tricked into thinking they had an hour to accomplish their tasks, but
they really had only 10 seconds. After 10 seconds had elapsed in world
time, the hypnotized subjects experienced intricate and accurate detail
in their inner perception that seemed to them to be a complete hour!
Given the same tasks in the waking state often stymied them so badly
that they couldn't think of a single dress design and actually prepared
a meal in a very disorganized fashion. A posthypnotic interview revealed
that the subjects experienced no difference in their "thinking" and that
at no time did they feel hurried or speeded up. Time distorted thought
thus seems to have superior clarity to normal conscious thought beset
with constant distraction.

.......The experiment was achieved by starting a metronome at 60 beats


per minute while the hypnotist stated that he was slowing it down
gradually. The subject was to listen carefully as he did so and when in
the subject's opinion the metronome had been slowed down to the rate of
one stroke per minute, the subject would acknowledge by saying, "Now."
The metronome's beating always remained the same, but the hypnotist
progressively encouraged the state of suggestibility in the subject by
saying that the metronome was going still slower. The same
suggestibility can be achieved in a self-hypnotic state.

.......Use an audible second-ticking clock or a metronome stroking at 60


beats per minute. Assume a comfortable position in a chair or a bed, and
achieve a self-hypnotic state. After getting into a deeply relaxed
state, your heartbeat will entrain itself to the slow rhythm of 60 beats
per minute. Concentrate on deep rhythmic breathing and clear your mind
to allow your brain waves to also slow down.

.......You can memorize and say the following statements to yourself or


you can put them on a cassette tape for playback when you're relaxed.

....Now begin using the following suggestions on yourself:


1) I am feeling good. I am feeling wonderful.
2) The beats are slowing now -- slower - slower.
3) The time between each beat is seeming longer and longer.
4) I am relaxed and I have lots of time.
5) Time is only relative to what I want it to be.
6) Each stroke is further and further apart now.
7) There is lots of time.
8) I feel so relaxed and at peace with myself.
9) Time is slowing down.
10) Each beat of the metronome feels distantly separated.

......Repeat the above suggestions or similar ones over and over to


yourself until you "feel" that each click of the metronome is spaced
between 2 - 4 minutes apart. Bring into mental focus the material you
want to review and say the following:

1) I have plenty of time to review this.


2) Every time I do this, I improve myself and my performance.
3) I am relaxed and taking my time.
4) The more I practice, the easier it becomes.
5) I am feeling good and experiencing no hurry.
6) I have all the time that I need to accomplish this review.
7) I am completing my review.

.......At this suggestive state of mind, you can review any material you
wish in a matter of seconds over and over again. By being relaxed and
saying to yourself that you have lots of time, your mind does indeed
'create' lots of time. You work at optimal levels of efficiency when you
are relaxed and enjoying yourself. The more you practice this exercise,
the easier it will become. Bring yourself out of the self-hypnotic state
by counting backwards from 10 to 1 and then progressively awaken. Always
give yourself a post-hypnotic suggestion that the next time that you
want to experience self-hypnotic time distortion, it will be easier and
faster to undergo. You can even create a tape for yourself with the
above suggestions.

Are We Already Learning In A Subliminal Way?

........In a way, what we consciously see is all there is to see, but
all there is to see is much more than what we see. What do we perceive
on a subconscious level that we do not see on a conscious level? Since
we can perceive more with an attentive expectation mind set, is
attentiveness consciousness? People are immersed in subliminal stimuli
all day long. Many sounds, smells and visual input occur without
conscious acknowledgement, but are nevertheless subconsciously recorded.
Human beings sense, perceive and react to a lot of consciously
undetected stimuli. Ultrasonics, infrasonics, radar, microwaves and
various forms of radiation can produce bodily reactions without
conscious awareness, so obviously there are various levels of awareness
within human beings. Even while asleep or with certain brain areas
anesthetized, other brain areas can perceive certain things and cause
the body to respond to stimuli.

........During World War II, tacticians found that pilots and gunners
were unable to distinguish the silhouettes of planes seen at a distance.
In some instances, pilots and gunners even shot down "friendly" planes.
To solve this problem, Air Force psychologists developed the
tachistoscope, which is simply a machine that flashes words, numbers or
images for varying instants of time on a visible screen. By flashing
fairly large pictures of friendly and enemy aircraft at slow speeds,
while gradually increasing the exposure speed and decreasing the size of
the aircraft image, pilots could be quickly trained to recognize even
speck-like representations of different planes when flashed at only
1/100th of a second. In fact, U.S. Navy ship gunners were trained to
identify more than 2,000 silhouettes at one sitting without a mistake.

........ After the war, C. Farzier Damron at Indiana University used a


tachistoscopic technique to teach football quarterbacks how to spot the
open pass receiver almost automatically. Damron's method is still being
used in training today by collegiate and professional football teams.

........The human brain takes in all the information it needs to build a


response from even an image flashed at 1/100th of a second. Keith E.
Barenklau at the International Safety Academy, Houston, TX, uses
tachistoscopic instruction to teach student drivers to recognize and
respond quickly to potential, vehicle-collision situations. Property
damage due to traffic accidents costs billions of dollars every year in
the U.S., and since collisions kill about 60,000 people per year,
teaching collision avoidance in a classroom setting has become quite
helpful. Barenklau experimented with learning time periods and found
about 20 minutes proved best. Because of the intense concentration
needed, student learning seemed to fall off rapidly after 25 minutes
elapsed. With their score sheets ready, students were given a verbal
cadence signal of "Read-Set-Look" (flash). After each 100th of a second
exposure to a traffic situation, students marked down whether they
thought there was a potential for a collision (yes or no), and if there
was, they must identify the offending vehicle or object. Three or four
20-minute sessions were conducted with 5-minute breaks for each
classroom day. Students have had such great success in collision
recognition that this method could obviously be used in other areas of
technical training.
........Even a monkey can be conditioned to respond to tachistoscopic
input. In one experiment done by Drs. I. Arthur Mirsky and Robert E.
Miller of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1959, a
monkey was first conditioned by showing him a symbol at the same time
that he received a painful electric shock. The animal learned to avoid
the electric shock by pressing a bar lever as soon as he saw the symbol.
Since the monkey's heart beat faster whenever a shock was applied, it
also became conditioned to beat faster when only the symbol was
presented. Then the researchers shortened the exposure time of the
symbol until it was flashed in front of the monkey for only thousandths
of a second. They found that the animal's heart would beat faster when
the symbol was shown so briefly that it failed to press the lever. In
other words, the monkey was not consciously aware of what subconsciously
it was perceiving and reacting to on a subliminal level.

........In 1957, a Ft. Lee, NJ drive-in theater tachistoscopically


flashed the words DRINK COLA COLA and EAT POPCORN for 1/3000th of a
second every 5 seconds over Kim Novak's sensuous face and throughout the
movie during a 6-week run of the film Picnic. The subliminal message was
the brainchild of NY market researcher, James Vicary, who boasted that
Coke sales in the lobby increased 58% and that popcorn sales rose 18%.
An avalanche of criticism from outraged citizens and congressmen
produced more research on the subject and conflicting results have been
bandied ever since. Since subliminal, tachistoscopic advertising was so
severely criticized in 1958-59, the concept of subliminal learning has
been hard for people to embrace. However, the experience demonstrated
that people can be taught to respond positively to very brief images.
Researchers have shown that negative personality traits and bad habits
can be significantly altered with the use of subliminal suggestions. The
human biocomputer, the brain, all too often accumulates many negative
programs over a span of years. Positive subliminals can serve to replace
these self-limiting, self-imposed feelings of hate, anger, depression,
fear, rejection, self-doubt and other non-productive psychological
reactions with new and powerful response expressions. Thus, subliminal
learning offers a self-help alternative to anybody wishing to avail
themselves of it.

........In 1983, self-improvement tapes via tachistoscopic blips were


available from Stimutech Inc. to be played through a computer and into
your TV. Positive suggestive cues could thereby be absorbed while
watching your normal televised programming. A tachistoscopic flash at
1/100th of a second is normally subliminal, but when you are told to
expect it, it becomes consciously acknowledgeable. The more unconscious
your daily life pattern happens to be, the more susceptible you are to
succumbing to subliminal subtleties. If you have a mental block against
certain behavior, the affect on such behavior will be lessened using
subliminals. If you are open and unsuspecting, the affect is greatly
enhanced.

........Since human behavior is an outer manifestation of inner belief


systems, subliminal messages can often act as the stimulus to condition
a more beneficial response. They have the potential to excite, arouse,
anger or pacify human behavior. They can assist memory by attitude
changes toward retention of knowledge. In addition to psychological
modifications, physiological changes can also be brought about through
subliminal input. As the placebo effect in medicine has demonstrated,
the mind can bring about cellular changes, and subliminal input can
contribute to this process of self-healing with subconscious embeds. As
doctors learned in medical school, over 50% of all patients brought into
hospitals are suffering from hypochondriacal ailments. By understanding
and enhancing the placebo effect or mind over body connection, better
insight as to the mind's ability to heal the body can be learned. By
examining and altering the negative patterns buried in the subconscious
which often manifest themselves into self-punishing, physical ailments,
most disease can be prevented and cured. Subliminals can also heighten
your immune system in this process. Living cells of the body are
naturally designed to preserve themselves. Self-destruct processes occur
when negative messages from the subconscious conflict with this
self-preservation process. Subliminal input can be used as a tool to
correct these imbedded patterns to bring about beneficial changes and
personal growth. Of course, as with ordinary learning methods, results
vary markedly with the individual.

........In Time magazine, Sept. 10, 1979, an article ran concerning


"Secret Voices." The article mentioned that about 50 department stores
in the U.S. and Canada have installed a device that commingles the music
of Musak system broadcasts with subliminal anti-theft messages ("I am
honest. I will not steal. If I do steal, I will be caught and sent to
jail."). The words changed slightly every now and then, but the basic
message remained the same, and repeated itself 9,000 times every hour.
Professor Hal C. Becker invented the little "black box" to deliver the
technique through speeded up, barely audible messages (2 1/2 times
normal speed) in conjunction with the pleasant background music of the
department store (see U. S. patent no. 3,278,676 by Hal C. Becker).
(Using a Variable Speech Controller (VSC), recorded speech can be
speeded up without increasing the pitch and sounding like Donald Duck.)
Results indicated that theft and internal, inventory shrinkage were
actually reduced by up to 37% in stores using subliminal messages. Using
Becker's "honesty reinforcement and theft deterrent system," one
department store company saved more than half a million dollars in only
10 months through cutting shoplifting and employee pilferage. Such
success prompted other store chains to order their own secret
installations of the system as well.

........Can attitude modification be accomplished by listening to


subliminal cassette tapes? Currently, self-improvement tapes are sold by
mail-order companies with whisper-like suggestions buried within white
noise or the sounds of gentle ocean waves rolling onto the seashore. One
study was done by Anthony Greenwald of the University of Washington with
237 volunteers who listened to subliminal cassette tapes (the
manufacturing company he used was undisclosed) to improve either memory
or self-esteem. Subliminal messages were buried beneath the sound of
ocean waves. The labels were reversed so that the memory tapes were
labeled self-esteem and vice versa. Testing results showed that the
people who listened to mislabeled memory tapes showed no more memory
improvement than did those who listened to the mislabeled self-esteem
tapes. The people who listened to mislabeled self-esteem cassettes
revealed no more improvement in self-esteem than did volunteers in the
memory group. BUT -- the results also revealed that all participants in
the study scored higher on BOTH memory AND self-esteem tests afterwards,
regardless of which tape they heard. You could conclude that memory
tapes mislabeled self-esteem improved the memory via subliminal embeds
as they improved the listeners self-esteem via the mind's expectation
process or placebo effect. A similar conclusion could be drawn with the
group listening to the mislabeled self-esteem tapes.

........In July, 1989, one San Diego-based, mail-order firm was


challenged by the FDA to correct "misleading claims" about their
subliminal cassettes. In a regulatory letter to the company, the FDA
charged that promotions of certain tapes as being effective for
alleviating pain, relieving depression, kicking addictions,
strengthening and activating immune systems, and preventing and fighting
cancer, AIDS, arthritis and multiple sclerosis, were "false or
misleading or otherwise contrary to fact." The president of the
mail-order company insisted that their promotions never claimed those
things at all, and that the FDA selected words from their ads out of
context. Since most mail-order companies have a 30-day money back
guarantee, the best test of subliminal tapes is a personal one. If they
work for you, fine. If they don't, simply get your money back.

........The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has no hard and fast rule
about subliminals, other than their view that tachistoscopic blips could
be regarded as unfair and deceptive advertising practice. The first
subliminal TV ad was aired just before Christmas in 1973 with the
command "Get it" as a pitch for a children's toy called Husker-Du. When
the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) learned of it, they issued a
public notice calling subliminal advertising "deceptive and contrary to
the public interest." Although the FCC prohibits the use of subliminals
in electronic communication, there is no legal penalty attached to a
violation of the code. As a consequence, periodic instances of
subliminal messages in electronic communication have been reported.

........The Canadian radio station, CIME-FM of St. Therese, Quebec


broadcasts anti-mosquito frequencies in their music programming. The
station also broadcasts subliminal relaxation messages in the evening
and subliminal energizing messages in the morning. In January, 1987, the
Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission decided to
no longer prohibit subliminal advertising, and "has asked the industry
to come up with its own guidelines.

........Suppose schools had beneficial learning embeds traveling with


soothing music throughout the school PA system before classes began?!
Who could object to the enhanced potential of learning, especially if
those embeds were revealed on the blackboard ahead of time? Even the
expectation process would enhance the effect. Perhaps future subliminal
learning could conceivably involve flash feed techniques of encoding the
brain's memory neurons with bulk information. The contents of books
might be programmed into your organic computer in days instead of the
years.

........To see whether subliminal tapes can affect behavioral changes,


an experimental trial in a state prison by a private research firm could
easily be evaluated for its effectiveness in prisoner rehabilitation and
to see whether the inmate repeater rate went down significantly or not.
As a low cost assist to rehabilitation, subliminal messages could be
played amidst soft classical music in prisons. Such music would also
have a calming and beneficial effect on inmates and guards alike.

pressing a bar lever as soon as he saw the symbol. Since the monkey's
heart beat faster whenever a shock was applied, it also became
conditioned to beat faster when only the symbol was presented. Then the
researchers shortened the exposure time of the symbol until it was
flashed in front of the monkey for only thousandths of a second. They
found that the animal's heart would beat faster when the symbol was

........In 1957, a Ft. Lee, NJ drive-in theater tachistoscopically


flashed the words DRINK COLA COLA and EAT POPCORN for 1/3000th of a
second every 5 seconds over Kim Novak's sensuous face and throughout the
movie during a 6-week run of the film Picnic. The subliminal message was
the brainchild of NY market researcher, James Vicary, who boasted that
Coke sales in the lobby increased 58% and that popcorn sales rose 18%.
An avalanche of criticism from outraged citizens and congressmen
produced more research on the subject and conflicting results have been
bandied ever since. Since subliminal, tachistoscopic advertising was so
severely criticized in 1958-59, the concept of subliminal learning has
been hard for people to embrace. However, the experience demonstrated
that people can be taught to respond positively to very brief images.
Researchers have shown that negative personality traits and bad habits
can be significantly altered with the use of subliminal suggestions. The
human biocomputer, the brain, all too often accumulates many negative
programs over a span of years. Positive subliminals can serve to replace
these self-limiting, self-imposed feelings of hate, anger, depression,
fear, rejection, self-doubt and other non-productive psychological
reactions with new and powerful response expressions. Thus, subliminal
learning offers a self-help alternative to anybody wishing to avail
themselves of it.

........In 1983, self-improvement tapes via tachistoscopic blips were


available from Stimutech Inc. to be played through a computer and into
your TV. Positive suggestive cues could thereby be absorbed while
watching your normal televised programming. A tachistoscopic flash at
1/100th of a second is normally subliminal, but when you are told to
expect it, it becomes consciously acknowledgeable. The more unconscious
your daily life pattern happens to be, the more susceptible you are to
succumbing to subliminal subtleties. If you have a mental block against
certain behavior, the affect on such behavior will be lessened using
subliminals. If you are open and unsuspecting, the affect is greatly
enhanced.

........Since human behavior is an outer manifestation of inner belief


systems, subliminal messages can often act as the stimulus to condition
a more beneficial response. They have the potential to excite, arouse,
anger or pacify human behavior. They can assist memory by attitude
changes toward retention of knowledge. In addition to psychological
modifications, physiological changes can also be brought about through
subliminal input. As the placebo effect in medicine has demonstrated,
the mind can bring about cellular changes, and subliminal input can
contribute to this process of self-healing with subconscious embeds. As
doctors learned in medical school, over 50% of all patients brought into
hospitals are suffering from hypochondriacal ailments. By understanding
and enhancing the placebo effect or mind over body connection, better
insight as to the mind's ability to heal the body can be learned. By
examining and altering the negative patterns buried in the subconscious
which often manifest themselves into self-punishing, physical ailments,
most disease can be prevented and cured. Subliminals can also heighten
your immune system in this process. Living cells of the body are
naturally designed to preserve themselves. Self-destruct processes occur
when negative messages from the subconscious conflict with this
self-preservation process. Subliminal input can be used as a tool to
correct these imbedded patterns to bring about beneficial changes and
personal growth. Of course, as with ordinary learning methods, results
vary markedly with the individual.

........In Time magazine, Sept. 10, 1979, an article ran concerning


"Secret Voices." The article mentioned that about 50 department stores
in the U.S. and Canada have installed a device that commingles the music
of Musak system broadcasts with subliminal anti-theft messages ("I am
honest. I will not steal. If I do steal, I will be caught and sent to
jail."). The words changed slightly every now and then, but the basic
message remained the same, and repeated itself 9,000 times every hour.
Professor Hal C. Becker invented the little "black box" to deliver the
technique through speeded up, barely audible messages (2 1/2 times
normal speed) in conjunction with the pleasant background music of the
department store (see U. S. patent no. 3,278,676 by Hal C. Becker).
(Using a Variable Speech Controller (VSC), recorded speech can be
speeded up without increasing the pitch and sounding like Donald Duck.)
Results indicated that theft and internal, inventory shrinkage were
actually reduced by up to 37% in stores using subliminal messages. Using
Becker's "honesty reinforcement and theft deterrent system," one
department store company saved more than half a million dollars in only
10 months through cutting shoplifting and employee pilferage. Such
success prompted other store chains to order their own secret
installations of the system as well.

........Can attitude modification be accomplished by listening to


subliminal cassette tapes? Currently, self-improvement tapes are sold by
mail-order companies with whisper-like suggestions buried within white
noise or the sounds of gentle ocean waves rolling onto the seashore. One
study was done by Anthony Greenwald of the University of Washington with
237 volunteers who listened to subliminal cassette tapes (the
manufacturing company he used was undisclosed) to improve either memory
or self-esteem. Subliminal messages were buried beneath the sound of
ocean waves. The labels were reversed so that the memory tapes were
labeled self-esteem and vice versa. Testing results showed that the
people who listened to mislabeled memory tapes showed no more memory
improvement than did those who listened to the mislabeled self-esteem
tapes. The people who listened to mislabeled self-esteem cassettes
revealed no more improvement in self-esteem than did volunteers in the
memory group. BUT -- the results also revealed that all participants in
the study scored higher on BOTH memory AND self-esteem tests afterwards,
regardless of which tape they heard. You could conclude that memory
tapes mislabeled self-esteem improved the memory via subliminal embeds
as they improved the listeners self-esteem via the mind's expectation
process or placebo effect. A similar conclusion could be drawn with the
group listening to the mislabeled self-esteem tapes.

........In July, 1989, one San Diego-based, mail-order firm was


challenged by the FDA to correct "misleading claims" about their
subliminal cassettes. In a regulatory letter to the company, the FDA
charged that promotions of certain tapes as being effective for
alleviating pain, relieving depression, kicking addictions,
strengthening and activating immune systems, and preventing and fighting
cancer, AIDS, arthritis and multiple sclerosis, were "false or
misleading or otherwise contrary to fact." Tclaims" about their

........The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has no hard and fast rule
about subliminals, other than their view that tachistoscopic blips could
be regarded as unfair and deceptive advertising practice. The first
subliminal TV ad was aired just before Christmas in 1973 with the
command "Get it" as a pitch for a children's toy called Husker-Du. When
the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) learned of it, they issued a
public notice calling subliminal advertising "deceptive and contrary to
the public interest." Although the FCC prohibits the use of subliminals
in electronic communication, there is no legal penalty attached to a
violation of the code. As a consequence, periodic instances of
subliminal messages in electronic communication have been reported.

........The Canadian radio station, CIME-FM of St. Therese, Quebec


broadcasts anti-mosquito frequencies in their music programming. The
station also broadcasts subliminal relaxation messages in the evening
and subliminal energizing messages in the morning. In January, 1987, the
Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission decided to
no longer prohibit subliminal advertising, and "has asked the industry
to come up with its own guidelines.

........Suppose schools had beneficial learning embeds traveling with


soothing music throughout the school PA system before classes began?!
Who could object to the enhanced potential of learning, especially if
those embeds were revealed on the blackboard ahead of time? Even the
expectation process would enhance the effect. Perhaps future subliminal
learning could conceivably involve flash feed techniques of encoding the
brain's memory neurons with bulk information. The contents of books
might be programmed into your organic computer in days instead of the
years.

........To see whether subliminal tapes can affect behavioral changes,


an experimental trial in a state prison by a private research firm could
easily be evaluated for its effectiveness in prisoner rehabilitation and
to see whether the inmate repeater rate went down significantly or not.
As a low cost assist to rehabilitation, subliminal messages could be
played amidst soft classical music in prisons. Such music would also
have a calming and beneficial effect on inmates and guards alike.

........Among the many areas Charles Fort covered in his years of


research was the unusual subject of Wild Talents. Oftentimes,
extraordinary human capabilities have been explained as being the result
of some unique genetic combination. Regardless of hereditary
contributions though, most such abilities can be learned through the
proper training. For instance, since Fort's time, yogic talents like
piercing the skin with needles and knives or firewalking have all been
replicated by many Westerners. When the New Age lecturer, Jack Schwarz,
was studied by Elmer Green at the Menninger Foundation, Green filmed
Jack sticking a dirty sailor's needle through his bicep without his
suffering any pain, infection or bleeding. Schwarz acquired his mind
over matter ability through years of mental discipline and practice. Two
decades ago, Tolly Burkan not only cured himself of cancer (read his
extraordinary book, Dying To Live) through mental discipline, but he
demonstrated to the West how firewalking could be accomplished by
anybody. Today, workshops by many such instructors have allowed
thousands in the U.S. to walk over burning how coals stoked to over
1200F with no ill effects at all! In fact, the mastery of such a feat
leaves a firewalker with a brand new feeling of self-worth and
self-esteem.

........Some extraordinary people have exhibited certain magnetic and


electrical properties. For instance, the 14-year old Soviet student,
Inga Gaiduchenko, has been likened to a human magnet. Not long ago, she
demonstrated to specialists at the Moscow Technological Institute that
pens, china, spoons, books and other objects can adhere to her hands,
just as if she was a magnet for non-metallic items. Pauline Shaw, a
housewife of Manchester, England, has so much electrostatic energy in
her that she routinely blows out home appliances with a single touch!

........Other people have exhibited microscopic or telescopic eyes. In


the 30's, Alvah Mason, an electrician in Minot, ME, could distinguish
the names of phonograph records just by studying their grooves. More
recently, Arthur Lintgen of Philadelphia, was even tested by the Amazing
Randi, and it was found that he could do the same thing. He could
identify any classical music known to him by just looking at the grooves
on the phonograph record. Veronica Seider, a West German dentist, can
identify people at more than a mile away or she can see so close that
she can distinguish the individual dots on a color TV screen that make
up the picture!

........Organoleptic analysts (food sniffers) for the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration smell and test food for spoilage from dog food to fish.
Helen Keller could identify friends as they entered a room from their
scent alone. Tea tasters submit quality reports to the U.S.D.A. on about
500 teas a week. Vintners can discern and savor the subtle nuances of
different fine wines. The tiny 6-dot matrices or "cells" that constitute
braille are discernible as a touch language to the blind. Some musicians
with perfect pitch can play or transcribe onto paper a concerto after
only one hearing of it. Other people can hear a foreign language for the
first time and be able to recite verbatim even days later the exact
statements made in that language.

........Some people are human calculators, speed readers or even natural


mnemonists. Shakuntala Devi, the human computer, can mentally multiply
two 13-digit figures in 28 seconds. The Russian mnemonist,
Shereshevskii, forgets nothing that he hears or sees and employs
synesthesia (a blending of the senses) to accomplish it. In 1937, George
Koltanowski set a blindfold chess playing record by playing 34 mental
games simultaneously -- winning 24, drawing 10 and losing none! James A.
Garfield (U.S. 20th President) could write Latin with his right hand and
Greek with his left hand simultaneously! Harry Kahne was a vaudeville
showman that wrote mirror images with one hand and forward writing with
his other hand while dividing a long division problem in his mind,
adding a multiple column of figures and talking to the audience -- all
simultaneously!

........The physically and mentally handicapped often perform


extraordinary feats that they learn through persistent practice. So why
are physically and mentally whole individuals not utilizing more of
their potential? Studies of elderly peasants and natives living in
primitive jungle conditions of the world have shown that Alzheimer's
disease and senility with accompanying memory and hearing losses are
virtually nonexistent. Does this mean that modern living contributes to
these ailments because it creates little demand for better brain
utilization, like in situations of jungle survival?!

........With so many extraordinary talents exhibited over the years,


what is modern man or woman like today? An average city person is a
frail, forgetful, self-conscious, fearful individual that easily lashes
out in gut response and strifeful discord. As a consequence, human error
increases, human-guided machinery goes awry, people are mistakenly
killed and the planet has become a cesspool of unnecessary pollution.
Basically, modern men and women are little more than mental vegetables
in comparison to what they could be. This is some progress over our
primitive ancestors, isn't it?

........What is the solution to this human tragedy? In the future,


Mental Training Schools could offer what is totally omitted in current
educational facilities. Training in memory techniques could make
extraordinary memories commonplace. Classes could be offered in
emotional control, creative thinking, total sensory awareness, dream
control, ambidexterity, "instant" calculating, autonomic function
control, speed reading and time distortion techniques. Students from
such classes would be more able to adequately deal with everyday
problems. Graduates would have little need or dependence on alcohol,
nicotine or narcotics. With knowledge currently doubling every 2 years,
such advanced training could more easily prepare students to assimilate
and effectively utilize such information. Human error would be
drastically reduced and emotional control would save thousands of lives.
Can the world population afford such a continual waste of human
potential? The mental training techniques available must be implemented
to prevent a further decline of human potential. Wild talents could
become ordinary abilities for the future man or woman.

READ HOW YOU CAN CREATE LUCID DREAMS


Lucid Dreaming Can Be Learned & Utilized

........The rapid-eye-movement (REM) phase of sleep is where most dreams


occur. Even fetuses and newborns experience REM (rapid eye movement)
sleep, so the Freudian notion that all dreams are sexually motivated has
become antiquated. Except for the eyes, there is generally great
muscular inhibition during the REM state, and dreamers are virtually
paralyzed. This response differs markedly from conscious visualizations.

........Dreams are ordinarily spontaneous and representative of


subconscious meanderings. They can also be a psychological release of
tension. As far back as Biblical times, dreams have symbolically carried
meaning ("... and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that
could interpret them unto Pharaoh." Gen. 41:8). Since dreams are often
veiled in symbolism, it can be important to record your dreams and
periodically review them to acquaint yourself with any interpretive
parallels happening in your life. After interpreting your own
subconscious symbolism, dreams can open themselves up to a personal
enjoyment instead of a perplexing experience.

........The term lucid dreaming describes the experience of recognizing


during a dream that you are dreaming. By involving your conscious
awareness in a subconscious activity, you can learn to control the
content of your dream and its course of action. You will also remember
such dreams more easily. Dreams to a lucid dreamer are often more vivid
than simple visualizations. Objects and people appear to be and feel
solid, and the dreamer is often able to converse intelligently with his
own dream characters. Lucid dreamers can create or eliminate characters
and items within the dream by simply wanting to do so. You also have
access to your short term and long term memories as well. In dreams, you
can even levitate or fly. So if you're ever in doubt of your dream
state, try flying as a test.

........After trying several approaches, one researcher was able to


induce a state of lucidity in dreamers by giving a mild electric shock
through the mild electric shock through the skin to the median nerve at
the wrist. Earlier research showed that such stimulation was often
incorporated into dreams, directly or indirectly. Subjects had
previously been given pre-sleep instructions to recognize the impulses
and at that point consider whether they were dreaming. The experiment
worked so well that a portable "dream machine" was subsequently
developed that detected REM sleep and automatically gave electrical
impulses to t

........A Malaysian tribe called the Senoi revolves much of its culture
around dreams. At an early age, Senoi parents question their children
closely about their dreams. The children are taught early how to control
individual factors in their dreams and to bring about beneficial
outcomes. By consciously manipulating their subconscious dreams, the
Senoi manifest positive results in the waking world and resolve their
daily problems more readily.
........One technique to achieving a lucid dream state is to ask
yourself the question, "Is this a dream?" or "Am I dreaming?" 10 to 20
times just before falling asleep. The conscious repetitiveness of the
question will eventually be submerged into the subconscious dream state.
Reflecting cognitively upon such a question in the dream state will
result in some form of conscious intervention and awareness, and hence a
lucid dream state will be achieved. As a variation of the former method,
simply count and affirm just before retiring, "I am dreaming, One" -- "I
am dreaming, Two" and so on. Attending to the counting process keeps
your conscious awareness vigilant to what you intend to do. For those
people who tend to fall asleep rapidly, this method can have you
counting straight into dreamland. Another method is to reiterate over
and over to yourself just before going to sleep, "I will recognize that
I am dreaming when I am dreaming" or "Tonight, I will be consciously
aware of my dream." You can also use a stimulus response link. For
instance just before going to sleep, look at your hand while reiterating
to yourself over and over, "When I see my hand in my dream, I will know
I am dreaming."

........For recurring nightmares or fearful dreams, intensely visualize


yourself actively in a more preferred scenario just before falling
asleep. Imagine yourself initiating actions in the manner that is most
beneficial to you so that the stage is set for the subconscious to rerun
the same play in your favor. Combine your visualization with the
suggestion that you are in control of your dream and that there is
nothing to fear. Eventually your imagery process will merge into a dream
process and positive results will be achieved.

........Using the above techniques will produce an ability to achieve


lucid dreaming in 4 to 5 weeks or less. After achieving a lucid dream
state, act only as a casual observer at first or the condition might
quickly dissipate into wakefulness. Slowly integrate into your dreams
volitional control and alterations, and soon full dream mastery will be
achieved. If you avoid whimsical notions, you can design purposeful
meaning to your dreams and achieve in the dream state that which you
want in the real world. If you want positive episodes to happen in the
real world, you can now create dreams about them first.

........There is a right to left brain shift during the night after 45


minutes; then a left to right shift after another 45 minutes.
Consequently, every 90 minutes, there is a storm of neuronal activity in
the right brain as it goes into its REM dream cycle for several minutes.
Not surprisingly, the same brain cycle follows throughout the day as
well, hence the periodic tendency toward daydreaming. Ever notice how
sometimes you're more prone to daydreaming while reading than at other
times? Daydreams often occur spontaneously throughout the day and are
also subconsciously oriented. They sometimes guide your thought patterns
toward a preoccupation into a negative line of thinking. Since daydreams
are more easily interrupted, practice observing them when they occur.
Then interject your conscious influence over the flow and outcome of the
daydreams by directing them into a more positive result. If daydreams
are too elusive to manage, begin with conjured up visualizations that
you can create for yourself. Devise an imagined script and story and
produce your own inner plays. Research has shown that lucid dreamers are
more likely than non-lucid dreamers to have dreams that are positive,
successful or filled with good fortune. It makes sense, doesn't it? If
you can control the flow and outcome of your dream, why would you want a
negative one?
........Becoming suddenly conscious in a lucid dream could also shed
some light on the physiological activity connected with consciousness.
What happens in the brain at that exact moment of lucidity? The state
could also be useful for self-therapy by providing realistic settings
for people who have phobias.
