Week 9 Blog

This document provides guidance for weekly journal entries for a filmmaking project. It instructs students to reflect on what they have learned and how it has benefited their project, and to consider what needs improvement. Students should address these questions in journal entries for weeks where they completed relevant tasks. The entries should reflect their own production schedules rather than just filling in a generic form. There should be 11 journal entries total, including for the Easter week.

WEEKLY JOURNALS

This is where you think about your FMP learning journey and development.
Don’t simply describe what you did - consider what you have learnt and how this has benefitted
your project. What do you need to improve?

THIS IS JUST GUIDANCE THAT YOU NEED TO ADAPT TO YOUR OWN PROJECT. YOU HAVE CREATED YOUR
OWN PRODUCTION SCHEDULES AND YOUR WEEKLY BLOGS SHOULD REFELCT THAT.

THESE QUESTIONS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IN THE WEEKS YOU COMPLETED THEM. DO NOT JUST SUBMIT THIS
FORM FILLED IN FOR YOUR WEEKLY BLOGS. THERE SHOULD BE 11 WEEKLY BLOG ENTRIES (INCLUDING
EASTER).

Week Nine – Editing

EDITING

How did you find the editing process? The editing process was interesting as I had a lot of footage to
work with. I started by putting b roll footage together which
consisted of all kinds of instruments being played which was
appropriate as this is a documentary about music education. I
also used pictures of news reports to show that the issue is
relevant. This section was rounded out with a title card at the
end with the name of the production and my name.
I then went on to edit the interviews which consisted of many
different camera angles. To link them up, I put one clip on top
of the other and then lined them up so that they matched
and then cut out the audio from the clip which didn’t have
the microphone audio. I then started to watch through the
interview and cut out any unwanted bits and parts from one
camera angle so that it switched between the two. I did this
for my other two interviews also, with a mix of b roll and
archive footage. Overall the editing process was quite simple
as I knew from the start how I wanted the production to look
and I knew how to edit it so that it could look how I wanted d
it to look.
For one of my interviews I had to alter the colouring and
lighting on one of the frames as it did not match the other
one. I also had to rotate one of the frames as it was uneven.

What skills did you have to I had to learn how to zoom into pictures, this can be seen
learn/develop during the editing when I show pictures on screen such as the news reports and
process? when one of my interviews is going through his influences. I
knew how to do everything else from cutting and transitions to
making audio quieter and altering colours.

process and explain what they show.

What issues did you have to As previously mentioned, the only main issue I encountered
overcome whilst editing? How did you was when I noticed that one of the frames of one of my
move past them? interviews did not match the other one so I had to alter the
colour and brightness. I kept looking at both of the clips to see
what I could do to make them the same.

Have you identified any scenes which If I could re shoot, I probably would have re shot the interview
need re-shooting? Will you be able to with the uneven colours, however I have too much other work
do this? to be getting on with, also there may be a chance that this
person will be unavailable to interview, so I have just stuck to
editing the issues.

Are you on track this week? If not, I am on track so far, I just need to complete some work that
how far behind are you? needs improving on from before.

What work do you need to complete I need to complete some research.

outside of lessons to stay on track?

High Grade Tips

Evaluation & Reflection

● ‘reasoned decisions and inform the development of ideas’ – both your evaluation and the
weekly reflections above will clearly show both how and why your ideas developed throughout
the project
● ‘demonstrating clarity in thinking’ – all of the above plus very clear links between your research,
planning, idea development and the production of your poster and film trailer
