With an empty BSCI Flash EPROM (i.e. the TRAU software has not yet been
downloaded) the TRAU is in the "TRAU_FW" phase.
After the (first) download of TRAU SW (BSCI SW only, other SW files are skipped),
the TRAU changes automatically into phase 1 and a new logon is required. In phase
1, the TRAU SW has to be downloaded again (for the second time now, no files
skipped).
While the first download (ca. 2 min) puts only the BSCI software into BSCI RAM, the
second download (ca. 5 min) moves the whole TRAU SW into BSCI Flash EPROM.

Activating TRAU software means loading the software stored in the BSCI's FEPROM
into the TRAU processors' RAM.
The activation takes about 5 minutes.
The TRAU automatically switches from phase 1 to phase 2 and a new logon is
necessary.
To check if the software download has been successful, the following commands are
available (not in phase 1):

GET BSMS
Beside the BSCI / MSCI running software, GET BSMS also gives a "directory list"
with all the software stored on BSCI (max 2 loads).

GET TRAC
GET TRAC shows only the TRAC specific software files (including the binary file).

GET TRAU
GET TRAU shows the software load header only (but no individual files).

5.1 Set TRAU attributes

The command SET TRAUE is used to define the

type of PCM used (PCM24 / PCM30),

Sales Unique Name SALUNAME,

TRAU synchronization law
(selection "MSC" defines the special cases like cross-connect equipment between
MSC and TRAU)

type of TRAUE
("with_TPWR": separate power supply modules, "classic" hardware;
"without_TPWR": power supply integrated on the modules, latest "classic"
hardware and HC TRAU Rack).

Notes
Together with the TEI, the SALUNAME uniquely identifies the TRAU. Their settings
have to be in accordance with the BSC database.
SALUNAME is set per rack (i.e. it is identical for all TRAU shelves in the same rack).

5.2 Configure PCMS

The PCMS attributes are configured with the command SET PCMS:

Parameter Description
LOWBER Threshold for the bit error rate. Range: 10E-3, 10E-4, ..., 10E-9 and
NULL.
PCMPAR PCM Line Parameters, defining whether or not CRC is used, whether
HDB3 or AMI code is used, whether not urgent alarms are signaled
and which values for the bite error rate and the bit alignment frame
are used.
REMAL Remote alarm indication type for PCM24 lines (CCITT or Bellcore).
For PCM30: Null.

5.3 Set LAPD TS / TEI

To configure the

LAPD (LPDLS) time slot and

Terminal Endpoint Identifier TEI,
the command SET LPDLS is used.

Parameter Description
TEI Terminal Endpoint Identifier, range: 0 - 63
(for ID used together with SALUNAME)
ASUBLAPDCH Time slot used for LPDLS link, range: 1 - 31

Wait until BSMS and TRAC boards are loaded before continuing with the next steps.

5.4 Create TRAC

Only TRAC-0, TRAC-1, BSMS-0, BSMS-1 (and TPWR-0 and TPWR-1, if used) are
created automatically.
The remaining TRAC boards (TRAC-2 … TRAC-5) have to be created manually.

Note: The attempt to create TRAC-0 / 1 is rejected because "Resource already

exists."

6 Verify module state / alarms

Check the state and status of all modules (BSMS, TRAC and TPWR, if used). The
desired state is:

administrative state: unlocked and

operational state: enabled.
Check the TRAU alarm panel.
Use the command GETAEC TRAUE to find active alarms on LMT.

7 Change to phase three

To switch TRAU from phase 2 to phase 3, use the Switch button in the LMT Control
Center (new logon required). Afterwards unlock the TRAU.
Wait until the BSMS is in hot standby.

8 Restart verification
Power off and on the TRAU to check that the TRAU recovers without after a total loss
of power.

Note: For the TRAU without separate power supply modules, "Power Off" means
"extract BSCI" and "Power On" means "insert BSCI".
After the autonomous bring-up check if the TRAU is running with the desired software
load (using GET TRAU command).

Exercise
Title: Commission the TRAU in the Training Center.

Objectives: Understanding the Commissioning Procedure for TRAU

Task
In the Training Center you find an already running system: It is not possible to
format the Flash EPROM of BSCI-0 and BSCI-1 simultaneously, only the
standby side can be formatted. Therefore, the commissioning procedure described
above must be modified.
Information to be collected

Software load header: Check the subdirectory containing the TRAU software on
your LMT hard disk.
Compare the TRAU software load header with the TRAU software load defined in
the BSC database (with the command CREATE TRAU).

TEI and SALUNAME.

Time slot used for LAPD signaling.

CRC4 used or not.

PCM line code used (AMI or HDB3).

Setting for Not Urgent Alarm (enabled or disabled).

Threshold for Bit Error Rate BER.

Setting for Bit Alignment Frame BAF.
Since the TRAU in the Training Center is already running, the desired information
may also be obtained directly via LMT (e.g. using GET... commands).
Additional steps for bringing the system down:
I) Find out BSMS "standby side": GET BSMS (attribute STNDBYST)
II) Lock TRAU and Switch to phase 2 (button in LMT Control Center, new
logon is required)
III) Lock BSMS "standby side"
IV) Format "standby" BSMS Flash EPROM
This procedure requires about 40 seconds.
Power off
a) TRAU with power supply modules: Switch off both power supplies
immediately after the "Format successful" message (Note: This message
is only displayed in the LMT Message Browser).
b) TRAU without power supply modules: Pull out all BSCI/MSCI boards
immediately after the "Format successful" message (Note: This message
is only displayed in the LMT Message Browser).

Perform the software download with only the former "standby" part of the TRAU
(BSCI, strictly speaking) powered on.
Only after the TRAU software activation (phase 2), power on the former "active" half
of TRAU. Wait until the (former active, now standby) copy of BSMS is fully loaded
(message "MSCI loaded“ appears after ca. 5 minutes).
Now proceed with the TRAU configuration.
