EE504 is a 6 credit course on advanced power system protection and switchgear. The course contains 36 teaching hours divided into 6 topics: 1) static relays, 2) basic elements of digital protection, 3) load-shedding and frequency relaying, 4) reclosing and synchronizing, 5) developments in new relaying principles, and 6) concept of different relay algorithms. Student performance is evaluated based on end semester and class exams carrying 70% and 30% theory marks, and 30% and 20% practical marks respectively.
