I. Objectives:
A. Formulates evaluative statements about a text read EN11/12RWS-IIIa-9
1. Formulates assertions about the content and properties of a text read.
EN11/12RWS-IIIa-9.1
2. Formulates meaningful counterclaims in response to claims made in a text read.
EN11/12RWS-IIIa-9.2

II. Content:
A. Topic: Text and Context Connections (Critical Reading)
B. Reference: Curriculum Guide page 2, Reading & Writing skills by Luzviminda D. Sandagan
C. Materials: TV, Powerpoint presentation, laptop

III. Procedures
A. Motivation
 The teacher presents a variety of pictures and ask the learners,
“what can you say about the following pictures?”
 The teacher presents individual claims of the famous personality and ask the
learners, “what is your take on the following statements?”

B. Lesson Proper

C. Activity
The students will be grouped into two and they will make a debate.
The topic will be LOVE OR MONEY.

D. Analysis
Processing questions:
 What did you feel while doing the activity?
 What was the most interesting argument presented?
 How did you come up with those kinds of reasons?
 If there will be a debate again, what do you recommend would be the topic?

E. Abstraction
The teacher will collate and discuss the answers of the learners.

F. Application
The teacher will ask the learners on how they will apply the assertions and
counterclaims in their everyday life?
IV. Evaluation
In your journal notebook,

 Formulate an assertion using this text,


“Internet and Students are the best educational partner.

 Formulate a counterclaim using this text,


“President Rodrigo Duterte, known for his all-consuming hatred of drugs, said he is
open to the legalization of medical marijuana if deemed beneficial by the proper
authorities.
