5. Nature of This post may be offered on a temporary or contract basis.


Contract
Applicants should note that panels may be formed from which future
permanent wholetime, temporary wholetime and contract vacancies
may be filled.

Applicants who come under consideration for appointment will be


subject to Garda Vetting.

6. Working To be on duty for 39 hours per week.


Week
Hours of work may be allocated between the hours of 8.00 am and
10 pm Monday to Friday inclusive, with Saturday working as directed.
No member of staff will be required to work on more than one night
per week as part of the 39 hour week.

A member of staff may be required/rostered to work on additional


nights for which overtime at appropriate rates will be paid. Overtime
will be payable in respect of Saturday work at time and half up to
1.00 pm and at double time thereafter on Saturday.

Within the Department of Computing and Electronic Engineering, the
provision of technical support for the Electronics and
Makerspace/Fablab laboratories. Cover for the Computer
laboratories may also be required.

Minimum qualifications:

A Level 7 qualification in Electronic and Computer Engineering or
Computing/Electronics.

Minimum 3 year post qualification suitable experience in industry,


or other related field.

 Must have experience in using Microsoft operating systems and


CISCO networks.
 Must have experience in embedded microcontrollers
• Must be fully conversant with safe work practice in a workshop
environment and be aware of legislative requirements relating
to occupational health and safety.

• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively


with academic and support staff and external companies.
• Ability to liaise and communicate effectively with staff and
students in order to ascertain their needs and communicate
effectively with a non-technical audience.
• A high degree of accuracy and the ability to pay close attention
to detail in technical deliverables.
• Good time management and organisational skills - the ability to
work to deadlines.
• Self-motivation and ability to work independently and be pro-
active

 A Level 8 qualification in Electronic Engineering or

12. Duties Some of the principal duties and responsibilities are as follows:

• Organising, preparing materials and setting up for practical


classes, demonstrations, assessments, practical examinations,
project work in laboratory and workshop areas.
• To undertake commissioning of new equipment.
• Installing and testing of software, making software available to
appropriate users, ensuring anti-virus software is installed and
kept up to date, network management where appropriate.
• To carry out routine maintenance of equipment.
• Provide technical assistance to lecturers and students to ensure
the safe and smooth running of events and equipment.
• To ensure that laboratories, materials and equipment are kept
clean, tidy, safe and in good order.
• To provide support for delivery and receipt of goods.
• Liaise with Senior Technical Officer and Technical Officer
grades and other designated manager grades to define
service requirements and monitor service levels in their
designated area.
• Designing, modifying, building, testing and installation of
equipment for teaching.
• Repairing, maintaining, securing and storing of laboratory
equipment, and consumable materials
• Stock control of equipment and consumable materials
• Assist in consulting with suppliers of equipment and
consumable materials, and assist in obtaining technical
specifications, quotations and ordering new equipment and
consumable materials
• Writing reports and specifications as required including writing
and updating technical instruction manual for staff and
students.
• To undertake such other duties as the Director, Head of
School/Department, Senior Technical Officer or other
authorised officer may assign from time to time.

13. Salary The salary scale for new entrants to the public service from 1 st
January 2011 is €29,974to €42,683 (11 points) (if offered part-time
salary will be pro rota depending on hours allocated) with all new
entrants starting on the first point of the scale.
14. Other The Faculty of Engineering & Design is one of three faculties in IT
Relevant Sligo - the others are in Science and in Business & Social Sciences.
Information It has a highly successful track record in educational innovation,
research, quality and provision and currently operates in a fast-
changing educational and market environment.

The Faculty has core undergraduate degree programmes across a


range of disciplines including Mechanical/Precision Engineering,
Quality & Manufacturing, Polymer Processing, Mechatronics, Data
Centre Facilities Engineering, Civil Engineering, Quantity
Surveying, Construction, Project Management, Sustainable Wood,
Water & Waste Water, Computing, Electronic Engineering,
Architecture, Interior Architecture & Design, Creative Design, Fine
Art, Performing Arts, Writing & Literature. It also delivers training
for Toolmaking, Manufacturing, Electrical, Polymer Processing and
Carpentry & Joinery apprenticeships.

The Faculty currently anchors one strategic research group, the


Centre for Precision Engineering, Materials & Manufacturing
Research (PEM), although research within the Faculty embraces
other areas including a Mathematical Modelling Research Group
(MMRG). The PEM Research Centre is also a designated
Technology Gateway funded by Enterprise Ireland.

The Faculty has five academic departments with over 150


academic staff, 25 technical and support staff and over 3,000
students (1,000 fulltime and 1,600 part-time/online and 400
apprentices. The Faculty delivers programmes from level 6 to level
10.

The Department of Computing & Electronic Engineering brings


together the highly successful suite of Computing programmes
along with the Electronic Engineering programmes and most
recently the Masters in Connected & Autonomous Vehicles.
