VDR system overview

2.1.1 Remote Video Interface (RVI)

The RVI contains a Video Acquisition Module with two channels. The RVI has a built in power
supply. The RVI must be connected to the DAU with a shielded CAT5 cable.

3 Installation
3.1 RVI
The RVI must be installed on a bulkhead or surface, which can easily carry the weight (2,0Kg / 4
lbs) of the RVI. The RVI must be protected from rain and seawater and direct sunlight. Consult
“Appendix A Installation drawing for RVI” for details.

Warning: Do not install the RVI in a small compartment with insufficient ventilation

3.2 Dimensions
W x H x D 180 x 82 x 270mm
Weight 2,0Kg / 4 lbs
See also “Appendix A Installation drawing for RVI”.

3.3 Earth stud

The earth stud located at the rear of RVI must be connected to ships earth. The diameter of the earth
stud is 6mm. The earth strap must be fitted with a M6 ring crimp terminal.

3.4 Power requirements

The RVI must be connected the ship’s main power source (110-240AC). The AC power must be
backed up by the vessels emergency power (automatically switch over). The power cable should be
as short as possible and have a conductor area of minimum 0,75mm2. The IEC mains connector
supplied with the RVI must be used for the AC input.

The power consumption is 25 Watts.

3.5 RVI address

The RVI address i.e. the rotary switch on the front, must be set to “0”.

3.6 Video interface

Use five RG59 (75Ω) cables or a high quality 5-way 75Ω coaxial video cable. The cable must be
terminated with 75Ω BNC connectors at the DAU.

The video interface is compatible with the VGA/VESA family. Separate sync (5-way) and sync on
green (composite) are supported.

The maximum supported resolution:

UXGA: 1600x1200 @60Hz
SXGA: 1280x1024 @85HZ

3.6.1 Signal levels

Analog input range (R, G, B): 0,5V –1,0V

Digital levels (H/V sync): Low <0,8V

High > 2,5V

4 Configuration
The two video inputs on the RVI are configured the same way as the video inputs on the DPU/DAU

Physical input Location Logical channel (in configurator

tool)
CH 1 DPU/DAU VD 1
CH 2 DPU/DAU VD 2
CH 1 RVI VD 3
CH 2 RVI VD 4

Consult “Installation Manual for DM200/DM300 S-VDR and DM400/DM500” for details

Important notice:
Disable VD 4 (inactivate) while VD 3 is being configured and calibrated
Disable VD 3 (inactivate) while VD 4 is being configured and calibrated
(Remember to activate the disabled channel after the last channel is configured and calibrated)
