My Favorite Teachers

Over the years, I have had teachers I have liked, hated, or even loved. The teachers

that I have loved were my favorite teachers, and there were a very few of those. My favorite

teachers were the ones that were fun, loving (as a teacher, don’t get the wrong idea), helpful,

and best of all, nice. I have had a total of 13 favorite teachers between the time I was in

preschool, and the time I graduated high school. Some of my favorite teachers helped me get

better in certain subjects, some helped me build confidence, and others just helped me

become a better Rocky. Kids may not like all teachers, but there are teachers that will make

you happy, and help you become a better person and feel better about yourself.

One of my favorite teachers was one of my high school teachers, Ms. Kotsay. Man, I

loved having Ms. Kotsay as my teacher! She is a teacher over at Bayside High School and is

part of the math department. I had her as my teacher for my junior year when she taught

algebra regents prep, and for my senior year when she taught algebra 2/ trigonometry. At

first, I didn’t get why she was always singing, but then I got used to it, and she became an

amazing teacher to have. During junior year I only had her 2 times a week, so I would

sometimes sneak out of class and peep near her class door to say hi on the days I didn’t have

her. Unfortunately, that didn’t last long as the other teacher at the time found out and banned

me from “going to the bathroom”. I guarantee if someone from my English 101 class had a
teacher like Ms. Kotsay and he/she didn’t have her every day, they would have done the

same thing. We would also have parties at some points to celebrate certain days.

Ms. Kotsay would always make sure we were ok and make sure we were

understanding what she was teaching. There were times when she would hand out

homework, and when I forgot to do it (which was a couple times), she would go over the

homework. Ms. Kotsay was that type of teacher that would like to have fun but was serious

about her teaching. Whenever someone that was sitting in the back was either talking or on

their phone, she would tell them to stop chatting or to get off their phone. Ms. Kotsay would

also make little songs or a math parody of a song to help us remember whatever we were

being taught. In fact, I helped her create a song myself! I loved her math songs so much, that

me and her created a little math rap song called “sofas”, we have a beat for it and everything!

The song was so good, she shared it with her friends over at the math department and gave

me credit! I would also make her little cards or whatever to show her my appreciation for all

she has done for us throughout my junior and senior year. She was the best teacher ever, and

I will always love and never forget her.

Another one of my favorite teachers was another one of my high school teachers, Ms.

Riaz. Ms. Riaz was a teacher over at Bayside High School and is part the social studies

department. I had her in the 10th grade for US History. She was a fun teacher who would

teach in a calm and patient way. She would sometimes show us videos based on what we

were learning so we could get the clear point of the topic. She would also even take us on

trips! Yes, my US history teacher Ms. Riaz would take me and the class on trips. One trip

was on October 16, 2015 when she took us to a historian art museum located in Battery Park
in Manhattan. Over there we would learn about different paintings and stuff like that. I

honestly forgot what we looked at exactly, since it was over 3 years ago.

Another trip she took us on was when we went to Ellis Island to go see the Statue of

Liberty on April 8, 2016. That day, we got to go inside the statue of liberty and take pictures

and everything. Ms. Riaz was teaching us about immigration at the time, so that’s the reason

why we took a class trip to Ellis Island. Ms. Riaz also took my notes for me one time when I

went to the bathroom. We also had a breakfast party at one point, but I forgot when it was

however. Ms. Riaz was such an amazing teacher, that I was hoping to have her the following

year for Part Government & Economics. When I found out I did not have her for that class, I

was upset, because I was hoping to have her 2 years in a row! Ms. Riaz was another amazing

teacher and I will never forget her.

In conclusion, I had a bunch of amazing teachers. I was hoping to write about more of

my favorite teachers like Ms. Demelo, Ms. Glickman, and my speech teachers, but I couldn’t

due to the assignment rules. All of my favorite teachers have one thing in common, they all

make me smile when I wasn’t in the best mood. These teachers taught me things in ways

only they know best. Ever since I graduated Bayside High School, I’ve missed these people

more than I did before I left. One of the teachers even gave me a graduating teddy bear as a

graduation present! When I visited Bayside last Friday, I was able to see some of my favorite

teachers like Ms. Kotsay and me seeing her made her day! It felt good to see her, and when I

visit bayside sometime next month, I’m planning to visit the rest of my favorite teachers or at

least some of them so I can let them know how I been doing in college.
