 Oktoberfest is the world’s largest beer festival and travelling


funfair. ( ‘Volksfest’ )
 (Das Oktoberfest in München ist das größte Volksfest der
Welt)
 Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany.
 It is a sixteen to eighteen day folk festival, running from mid to late
September till the very first week in October.
 Vom 22. September bis zum 7. Oktober ist das Oktoberfest statt

 More than six million people from around the world attend each
year.
 Locally, it is often called the ‘Wiesn,’ after the name for the
fairgrounds, Theresa's meadows.
 The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having
been held since the year 1810. Other cities across the world also
hold Oktoberfest celebrations.

 During the event, large quantities of Oktoberfest Beer are


consumed: during the 16-day festival in 2013, for example,
7.7 million litres!
 Visitors also enjoy numerous attractions, such as amusement rides,
side stalls, and games. There is also a wide variety of traditional
foods available.
 Beer, Chips, Würstchen, Kartoffeln, Brezel, Tomaten………
 Das Oktoberfest generiert in den zwei Wochen Jahrlich
durchschnittlich eine Milliarde Euro Umsatz.

Oktoberfest Today;
 To keep the Oktoberfest, and especially the beer tents, tolerable
for the elderly and families with young children, the concept of the
"quiet Oktoberfest" was developed in 2005.
 Until 6:00 pm, the orchestras in the tents only play quiet brass
music, for example traditional folk music.
 Only after that may ( Schlager ) pop or electric music be played,
which had led to excess violence in earlier years.
 Over 85% of Oktoberfest visitors are German-speaking.

Oktoberfest outfits (Drindl und


Lederhosen);
 Many people tend to dress up to go out around Munich.
 Almost everyone attending Oktoberfest in Munich dresses in
traditional Bavarian outfits.
 In the 1500 and 1600s, traditional Bavarian outfits were common
facets of everyday life in Munich from going around town to even
working in
the 2017 16. Sep. bis 3. Okt. 6,2 Mio. fields.

 German men wear what is formally known as Lederhosen ("leather


breeches")
 Lederhosen were worn for hard physical work but they are worn
around Munich as fancy dress during Oktoberfest.
 Around 90% of visitors will be dressed up on some level for
Oktoberfest and over 75% will be wearing full traditional outfits.
 You can wear regular clothes and still have a great time, but you
will be missing out on a key piece of the Oktoberfest experience.
