SUMMARY MINUTES OF THE MEETING


April 28, 2019
Starbucks, TM Kalaw, Roxas Boulevard

Summary minutes of the meeting for the first general meeting of the Supreme Student
Council 2019-2020 presided by Benedict C. Bien, SSC president on April 28, 2019, at exactly
11:00 AM.

AGENDAS:
1. Presentation of General Plan of Action
2. Presentation of House Rules
3. Crafting of Resolutions

AGENDA #1: GENERAL PLAN OF ACTION


Opening Discussion:
SSC President, Benedict Bien presented the proposed general plan of action crafted by
the SSC Executive Officers to the college representatives. The proposed GPOA is open for
suggestions and is subject for finalization. Here are the following plans for the upcoming
academic year 2019-2020:

(1) Iskongreso - a forum open for the student council and the studentry for the purpose
of addressing issues and concerns regarding the welfare of the student body and its
relationship with the other sectors of the university.

Suggestions: (As per who should be the appointed people required to attend)
(1) COED Representative Casagan said that the block president and secretary
should be required to attend Iskongreso.
(2) CBGM Representative Torrigue agreed with COED Representative Casagan that
the block president should be required but she also suggested to have a block
representative present to the meeting due to the expectation that not all students
will be willing or able to attend this kind of activity.
(3) CET Representative Crespo agreed with CBGM Representative Torrigue for the
presence of the block president and block representative in the forum.
(4) SSC Secretary Andrino said that the block Public Relations Officer should be the
one required to attend Iskongreso for them to be able to do their role as PRO and
to decrease the burden that the block presidents are carrying.
(5) SSC Treasurer Mendoza said that a block representative should be required to
attend Iskongreso.
(6) SSC President Bien and SSC Auditor Mendoza agreed to have a block
representative present during the forum.
Resolved:
The council shall finalize their decision once all members are completed and
reached quorum.

Suggestions: (As per the date of execution)


(1) SSC President Bien said that Iskongreso should be executed before, during or
after a semester.

(2) I Know Right! A Seminar on Voter’s Education and the Role of Students in the
Revolution - A seminar that aims to provide the students with in-depth knowledge in
participating in elections. The date of execution is yet to be discussed.

(3) Foundation Week - celebration for the founding anniversary of the Pamantasan.
Arising conflict on the date of execution due to the moving of the school calendar.
Further discussion for this event shall be made.

(4) Fresh and Foremost: Freshmen Welcoming - an event to welcome the incoming
freshmen students of PLM. In partnership with accredited organizations. The execution
date is yet to be discussed.
Note: Coordinate with OSDS to process the accreditation of PLM
organizations.

(5) Batikos: A Debate Tournament on Social Issues - In line with Int’l day of democracy
and Int’l day of peace, the debate tournament is geared towards engaging students in a
competitive but healthy discourse and discussion on pressing issues. Tentative dates
will be September 16, 18, 20, and 21.

(6) Project S.O.W. - a series of workshops to teach the students technical skills usually
only practiced by organization or council officers. Date is yet to be discussed.
(7.1) How to Save a Life: A Seminar on Mental Health Awareness - health and wellness
seminar.
(7.2) Pull Out Let’s Get Physical: A Sex Education Seminar - health and wellness
seminar
Suggestion: (As per which seminar shall push through)
Majority of the council attendees chose Pull out Let’s Get Physical: A Sex
Education Seminar. The council explained that this topic is still a taboo
even in our school and most students are lacking in knowledge in this
topic.
Resolved:
This council agreed to push through the Pull out Let’s Get Physical: A Sex
Education Seminar. The date of execution is yet to be discussed.

(8.1) Hiwaga: A Talk about Philippine Folklore and Myths - Talk about Philippine
Folklore and Myths
(8.2) Kilabot: A Ghost Walk on Intramuros - Ghost tour around Intramuros
Suggestion: (As per which event shall push through)
The council shall finalize their decision once all members are completed and
reached quorum. As for the date of execution, Bien proposed the event will be
done on the last week of October.

(9) TBT (Truth Be Told): An Exhibit on Journalism - In line with international day to end
impunity crimes against journalism. Proposed venue is in GEE and proposed date is on
November 2, 2019.

(10) Pasko sa Pamantasan - Yearly Christmas celebration in PLM. Proposed activities


are:
(A) Thanksgiving Mass - celebratory mass to give thanks for the blessings received
for the whole year. Venue will be in the PLM Chapel.
(B) Worship - a worship service
(C) Christmas ID - christmas song making contest
(D) Wishkolar - the council will grant one wish from a chosen PLMayer
(E) Concert -
(F) Bazaar - an event wherein the students are allowed to sell their preloved or
brand new things.
(G) Bouncy House - a fund generating activity

(12) Sibol 2019: The Future of the Built and Natural Environment - A series of activities
such as seminar, tree planting, launching of botanical garden, and reporting on the
status of Walang Plastikan sa Pamantasan. In partnership with College of Science, the
target areas for the tree planting activity are LPPCHEA and Arroceros Forest Park.
Proposed date of execution is on the 1st to 2nd week of January.
(13) Sining Siklab/Kulturaserye- A 2-day event in celebration of the Cultural and Arts
Month. The date of execution is yet to be discussed.

(14) March for Equality - In line with international equality/women’s month, there will
be a seminar on women empowerment and an exhibit about sexual assault and rape.

(15) Adbokasine- Awarding and Film showing of compilation of submissions.

(16) Awarding Ceremonies- Recognition of students for their outstanding leadership,


academic, and social responsibility

AGENDA #2: ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE


Opening Discussion:
SSC President, Benedict Bien presented the proposed organization structure crafted by
the SSC Executive Officers to the College Representatives for this upcoming Academic Year
2019-2020. The proposed organization structure is based on the organization structure from
previous council of JJ Batung. SSC Executive Secretary, Treasurer, Auditor, PRO, and all
College Representatives will be given a specific department or commission that they will
manage. Here is the proposed SSC structure for this term:

(2) SSC Treasurer - Department of Budget and Finance
(3) SSC Auditor - Department of Management and Operations
(4) SSC PRO - Department of Information Dissemination
(5) CAUP Representative - Commission on Culture and Arts
(6) CHASS Representative - Commission on Gender and Development
(7) CN Representative- Commission on Community Engagement and Social
Responsibility
(8) CBGM Representative- Collegiate and Governmental Affairs
(9) COED Representative- Commission on Education and Research
(10) CET Representative- Basic Student Services
(11) CPT Representative - Commission on Health and Wellness
(12) CBGM Representative- Student’s Rights and Welfare
(13) CL Representative and CM Representative - Constitution and Student Manual
revision
AGENDA #3: RESOLUTIONS
Opening Discussion:
SSC President, Benedict Bien informed the body for the vacant positions for this
council’s term such as CBGM College Representatives and CPT College Representative. The
presidents of the said college representatives shall be tapped for them to start to suggest
names for the possible and qualified PLM students for the vacant positions.

Notes:
(1) Presentation of House Rules
(2) College Representatives shall propose at least 3 long term or short term project to
be executed by their commission. Proposal shall be presented next meeting.
