Weekly Blog 4

For week 4, the blogger studied Propp's character theory and Todorov's narrative theory. Propp's theory defines 7 main character types and Todorov's theory breaks a story into 5 stages. The blogger created a new survey and began analyzing feedback. The main problem was a lack of survey responses. For next week, the blogger plans to finish collecting and analyzing survey responses, add more detail to theories studied, and contact a pub to confirm a location.

Activities we did this week:

For Week 4 I began Character theory and Narrative theory. I looked at

Propp’s character theory and Todorov’s Narrative theory. Propp’s character theory is
a theory created by Vladimir Propp, who says that all character fit into 7 main
character types. These types are as follows: The Hero, The Villain, The Dispatcher, The
Donor, The False Hero and The Princess. For Propp’s narrative theory, Propp states
that a story is broken up into 5 points. These 5 point are “Equilibrium”, “Disruption”,
“Realisation”, “Restored Order” and “New Equilibrium”. I found clips from a YouTube
channel named Alfie Vaughan, who uses The Lord of the Rings to explain both
Todorov’s and Propp’s theories, with Lord of the rings being used as a template to
draw upon. Not only did I begin this Propp’s and Todorov’s theory but I also created
a new survey about the new developed Idea which over the course of this week. I
began to collect responses and I have analysed the feedback that I have got.

Problems I had to deal with:

Of course, as is always the case, I was not able to get many responses in the
small time span I had to get some valid feedback. Apart from this there was not
much I could do, however what I did do was add to any work that I hadn’t quite
finished. This includes work from target audience, survey analysis and codes and
conventions.

Next Week

This week there was not many things that I could do without getting all my
survey responses. So for next week I am planning to make sure all the survey
responses are in and analysing all of them. Then I want to finish and add detail to my
“Narrative theory” and “Codes and conventions”. I also plan to try and contact The
Queen Victoria pub and try and confirm the location.
