The Family Business

EXT – STREET OUTSIDE DYLANS HOUSE.

(GIOVANNI is standing outside, in a green bushy area of a street,
the camera would be opposite to his feet, pointing directly at them.
The sound of a cigarette being smoked can be heard. GIOVANNI then
flicks the cigarette onto the floor (in front of the camera) and
stamps on it, “SOULJACKER PART I” begins to play as the camera
slowly raises to show GIOVANNIS face.)
(GIOVANNI walks down the street in time to the music. As he is doing
this, GIOVANNI’S MONOLOGUE would play.)

GIOVANI (MONOLOUGE):
You know… Most families are well brought up, nice parents, warm,
comfy houses. But if you’re like me, with 50 years of organised
crime heritage in your family’s bloodline... Things are a little
different.

(The Camera begins to track Giovanni as he is walking down the

street while his monologue would play. Around the 0:25 mark on the
song, GIOVANNI is at the end of the driveway at the house, the title
card would appear on GIOVANNI’s back, as he gets lock picking tools
from his pockets. The camera would leaving him there, as he walks
down the driveway, when three other people would appear next to
him.)

GIOVANNI (CONT’D)
(The shot would switch to the 4 walking down the driveway together)

These guys? They’re my happy little family.

(The Camera Switches to DINO)

GIOVANNI (CONT’D)
To my right, that’s Dino. Our resident Wise-Guy. He helps us plan
our endeavours.

 EXT – OUTSIDE SHOP
(As he is saying this, the scene changes to DINO Casing a shop. He
looks at the shop, looks at the people inside, and looks around for
cameras. He puts on some sunglasses and walks off)

GIOVANNI (CONT’D):
You want a place cased for a hit? Dino is your guy. He’s also
knows his way around a pair of pliers.

(This cutaway would also show DINO disarming an alarm)

(The camera would now change to David who is walking with the group)

EXT – STREET OUTSIDE DYLANS HOUSE.

GIOVANNI (CONT’D)
This Is Crazy Dave. He is…

EXT – OUTSIDE PARISES HOUSE

(Camera Changes to a shot of someone crawling away from DAVID, who
has an Uzi, the man would be crawling away, pleading for DAVID to
stop. David would swiftly raise his weapon up gun him down.)
(The Camera would change to a low angle show of DAVID reloading)
GIOVANNI (CONT’D)
Yeah… Our Distraction.

EXT – STREET OUTSIDE DYLANS HOUSE.

(Camera switched to ROBERTO, who has a toothpick in his mouth)

GIOVANNI (CONT’D):
Roberto is our Nice-Guy. He’s good with words.
(The Camera Switches to a scene where Roberto is talking with a shop
owner, the camera walks to the outside of the shop, where the 3 are
waiting outside.)

 GIOVANNI (CONT’D)
And you’re probably wondering who the hell am I?
(The Camera cuts to GIOVANNI)
GIOVANNI (CONT’D)
I’m Giovanni, I’m in charge of this bunch. You must asking yourself,
who are we? We’re The Marionis… The oldest firm around. Yeah, we’ve
been around for a while…. And we’re here to stay.

(Slow-motion shot of the group walking down the driveway

We’re serious about what we do, we’re professional, you see us

walking down the street, you know we about to strike down with the
forces of a motherfu-

(ROBERTO Taps GIOVANNI on the Shoulder)

GIOVANNI
What?
(The Group immediately halt, so does the music)
ROBERTO
We got a problem.
GIOVANNI
What’s that then?
ROBERTO
There’s an Alarm…
GIOVANNI
What? Where?
(ROBERTO Points to the Alarm, which is high up on the buildings
wall. The camera turns around and zooms in onto the Alarm)

(Camera Changes back onto the Group)

GIOVANNI
(Sighing) Well that’s just brilliant. Dino, (He puts his hand onto
DINO’s Shoulder) Can you Fix this?
DINO

You kidding me? (Mimicking Giovanni) “Can you fix this?” Of course
I can fix this, I’ve been cutting wires since I was 14
GIOVANNI
Brilliant, off you go then.
(DINO gets some pliers out of his pocket, and walks to the cable,
and without even thinking about it, cuts the wire, the alarm
immediately triggers.)
GIOVANNI
Dino! What the hell did you do!

DINO
this usually works!
GIOVANNI
Why isn’t it then?

DINO
They must’ve got the new ones!!

GIOVANNI
EVERYONE BAIL!!!!
(They all run off)
(North American Scum would slowly fade in, as the team are running
away.
GIOVANNI (MONOLOGUE)
Yeah, by “Professional”… we have our moments. Having all this
history in our family, Traditions are to be expected.

(The camera switches to the shot of the group walking down the
street, all of them yelling at each other, and pretty much them all
arguing in general.)
GIOVANNI (CONT’D)
Even though I am leading this train wreck, I have 50 god damn years
of tradition to follow. Otherwise, I’ll be dead within the hour.
With my life and the lives of my brothers in jeopardy, things need
to be consistent. But with all this new technology arising, I think
it’s time that we adapt, for the better of our family, and for the
future of our business.
(The shot fades to black, and TWO MONTHS LATER appears on screen.
The shot of a house fades in.)

 INT – PARISES HOUSE
(All of them but GIOVANI are sitting at a table. GIOVANNI is in the
kitchen DINO has a laptop in front of him, and ROBERTO and DAVID are
playing cards.)
DINO
G, I think I’ve done it.
GIOVANNI
What do you mean?
DINO
I’ve done some research, and I have found a way for us to make money
again!

GIOVANNI
Show me them!

(DINO flips the laptop around, showing a screen with a bunch of

green text on it)
GIOVANNI
What am I looking at?

DINO
Crypto-Currency.

GIOVANNI
The Hell is that?

DINO
It’s like money, but on the internet…

GIOVANNI
How does it work?
(DINO flips the laptop over so it faces him, DINO motions GIOVANNI
to come to him. GIOVANNI walks over to DINO, and looks at his
laptop)

 DINO
Ok, watch this. How much money do we have to spare?

GIOVANNI
A couple of grand.

DINO
Ok, so if I choose a market… and put five hundred in here. And we go
to this website that tracks the prices here. There’s also a graph
showing you it when gets updates and it goes up and down. And if we-
(realising) Oh god!

GIOVANNI
What? What’s wrong??

DINO
We just made 5 grand…
(The shot changes to a close up of Giovanni’s eyes widening)

GIOVANNI
We’ve done it…
(Yelling) BOYS!!!!
(ROBERTO and DAVID, broth drop their cards, as they were startled
from GIOVANNI’s yelling)

DAVID
Jesus Christ gio! The hell was that for!

(The camera zooms in on GIOVANNIS face.)

GIOVANNI
Get me a god damn hard drive…

(A montage would begin to play, with the “The Office – Soundtrack
from “Brazil” would play, as DINO is typing the typewriter sound
effects from the song would slowly seep in, replacing the sound.
Pnce the music starts, a time-lapse of DINO and GIOVANNI at the
table would begin to play, various cups of coffee would appear near
them, as the footage is sped up, DAVID and ROBERTO would pop in from
time to time. While this is happening a time-lapse of a bitcoin
market would come across the screen, showing what they’re dealing
with while simulating that time is passing. The time-lapse stops and
the shot end with DINO putting everything into a hard drive.)

(After the Montage, when DINO presents GIOVANNI with the hard drive,
the camera would slowly zoom into GIOVANNIES face as he slowly
cracks a smile.)

(The shot changes to GIOVANNI laying in bed)

GIOVANNI (monologue)
We had it in the bag, we did. To think we used to get ourselves into
things like prostitution, and drug trafficking. It was so
complicated. But when dad died. The reigns where handed down to me.
And I had full control of everything! But seeing how we used to do
things. It’s quite shocking really… But now, we’ve done it. If only
dad could see us now…

(The screen fades to black, as “The Morning After” would appear on

screen.)

(GIOVANNI would walk downstairs, in to the dining area, where DINO,

ROBERTO and DAVID would be waiting for them.)

GIOVANNI
Morning.
(EVERYONE BUT GIOVANNI): Morning!

DAVID
Dino, make sure you back it up to the second drive, I think that one
is mine...

 DINO
Sure Thing
DAVID
Ah, g! take a set, we got some plans.
GIOVANNI
Oh?
DINO
We spent the past two weeks mining, and buying bitcoins. We have
accumulated a total of around 560k

ROBERTO
Gio, we did it! I think what we need to do know is focus on getting
this virtual money into Actual Money.

GIOVANNI
(Pulling up a chair) How are we going to do that then?

ROBERTO
Dad had some contacts way back when, who would use betting machines
to turn his dirty money into clean stuff. The guy has moved on, but
can still get your bitcoins into actual money.

DAVID
Wait, can’t we just look up a website that just changes it for us,
which saves us from going to some random guy that we literally
haven’t met before..?

DINO
No, it doesn’t work like that, we need to use a broker.

GIOVANNI
Right, so where are we meeting him.
(The Doorbell Rings, the shot changes to the BROKER sitting down.)

 BROKER
Right, so where’s the drive.
ROBERTO
Dino, you had it right?
DINO
Uhh… it was connected to the laptop.

GIOVANNI
So where’s the laptop?

DAVID
(Raising his hand) The drive is on the countertop there.
ROBERTO
Oh... Right. Why is it up there?
DAVID
Someone must’ve moved it.
(Roberto fetches the drive, and plugs it into the laptop, handing it
to the BROKER. The BROKER goes to look through the drive. His
neutral facial expression turns into a swift brow of disgust.)
BROKER
Is this a joke?
GIOVANNI
Huh?
DINO
What do you mean?
BROKER
There’s nothing on here… but porn.
(Everyone flips, but DAVID sits there, eyes widened)
GIOVANNI
WHO IS RESPONSILE FOR THIS???
(David Slowly raises his hand.
DAVID

I needed somewhere to put it in case either you or my girlfriend saw
my laptop….
(GIOVANNI is speechless, and is turning red)
GIOVANNI
Dino..
DINO
Y… Yes boss?
GIOVANNI
Please tell me we have money left…
DINO
We have about fifty quid from what was left on the account. We have
nothing left in the bitcoin account since we had it transferred.
(The BROKER, knowing things are about to go south, leaves)

(The Screen cuts to black)

GIOVANNI
Shit…
