INTRODUCTION
Pune is a sprawling city in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. It was once the base of the
Peshwas (prime ministers) of the Maratha Empire, which lasted from 1674 to 1818. It's known
for the grand Aga Khan Palace, built in 1892 and now a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, whose
ashes are preserved in the garden. The 8th-century Pataleshwar Cave Temple is dedicated to
the Hindu god Shiva
Situated 560 metres (1,837 feet) above sea level on the Deccan plateau on the right bank of
the Mutha river, Pune is also the administrative headquarters of its namesake district.
The city is considered to be the cultural capital of Maharashtra. It is also known as the
"Oxford of the East" due to the presence of several well-known educational institutions.
Pune has a hot semi-arid climate (type BSh) bordering with tropical wet and dry

WHAT IS AIRPORT?
An airport is an aerodrome with extended facilities, mostly for commercial air transport. Airports
often have facilities to store and maintain aircraft, and a control tower. An airport consists of
a landing area, which comprises an aerially accessible open space including at least one
operationally active surface such as a runway for a plane to take off or a helipad, and often includes
adjacent utility buildings such as control towers, hangars and terminals. Larger airports may
have airport aprons, taxiway bridges, air traffic control centres, passenger facilities such as
restaurants and lounges, and emergency services. In some countries, the US in particular, they also
typically have one or more fixed-base operators, serving general aviation.
An airport solely serving helicopters is called a heliport. An airport for use
by seaplanes and amphibious HYPERLINK

typically includes a stretch of open water for takeoffs and landings, and seaplane docks for tying-up.
An international airport has additional facilities for customs and passport control as well as
incorporating all of the aforementioned elements. Such airports rank among the most complex and
largest of all built typologies with 15 of the top 50 buildings by floor area being airport terminals.

AIM
• Put into practice the positive inferences drawn from case studies and library studies and
to keep the negative Inferences out
• Develop a planning scheme which is simple and carefully defined where the public,
semipublic and private areas are properly seprated.
• To make a modern domestic Airport for the Pune city to increase it connectivity with the
modern developed cities in India .Reduce load from the railways and make other cities
more accessible and save travelling Time . increase tourism and economy of the city,
with better and new opportunities for the people.
• boost trade from Pune and neighboring districts as it will have its own dedicated cargo
terminal.

OBJECTIVE
• To study urban context of the site & surrounding and mark distinction wherever
required.
• To study the transformation in architecture and come up with the excellence
implications in design.
• To search the latest technologies for the project.
• To study the climatic responsive design.
• To study urban fabric and distinguish the growth.
• To study the organic architecture and interpret with best possible standards.
• Study weak and strong urban structures of the city, to make out the solution by
implementing responsive design approaches.
• To search the latest innovative engineers techniques, to counter with every possible
natural disaster till extreme.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION

• This type of project serves Tourism.
• Focus will be limited to layout the site with detail design of various space
requirements with emphasis on AIRPORT.

• Site area is insufficient for such a large scale project and hence certain requirements
shall be compromised, giving relevant reasons, to result into a more functional
space.

DESIGN APPROACH
• Through study and understanding of the topic .
• Conceptual approach for design evolution
• Planning with respect to all requirements
• Correct implementation of byelaws
• Landscaping of the site
• Formation and presentation of 3-D model

METHODOLOGY
Live and literature case studies. Data collection and documentation of information related Visit
to the site-
• Gathering information available
• Understand the environment
• To study research papers
• Analysis and conclusion
• Based on the observations made during the processes mentioned above, evolving
the concept, and further enhancing the design, which can be converted it into reality.

airport will be located near the villages of Ambodi, Sonori, Kumbharvalan, Ekhatpur-Munjawadi,
Khanwadi, Pargaon Memane, Rajewadi, Aamble, Tekwadi, Vanpuri, Udachiwadi, Singapur near
Saswad and Jejuri in Purandar taluka of Pune District in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The
proposed airport will spread over 2,400 hectares and the site has been already approved by AAI
(Airports authority of india).

Rajewadi railway station on the Pune–Miraj–Londa line is nearest to the site. The proposed airport will
be connected with six different routes including national highways 48 and 65. There will also be a special
ring-road connecting major industrial establishments with the proposed airport from Hadapsar.
