Music Lesson Plan

Grade/Level: 4 Duration: 30-40 minutes Topic: Lesson #3Ukulele – Pop song – Jason Mraz –
I’m Yours

Materials Needed:
 Ukulele
 Jason Mraz song – I’m Yours
 Chart of C Major, G Major, Am, and F chords

Lesson Objectives:
 Students will learn a familiar song - I’m Yours
 Students will Learn G and Am chords on Ukulele

Introduction/Anticipatory Set:
 Review C Major and F Major Chords
 Have students warm up by playing C and F major together for 8 bears each

Activities:
 Teach students the chords to “I’m Yours”
 Teach students G major chord. Show students diagram of G chord.
 Teach students Am chord. Show Students diagram of Am chord.
 Teach students strumming pattern - C major for 4 beats, G for 4 beats, Am for 4 beats,
and F for 4 beats.
 Play first verse together – only strumming
 Teach students strumming pattern of second verse - C major for 4 beats, G for 4 beats,
Am for 4 beats, and F for 4 beats.
 Have students play 2nd verse together – only strumming
 Teach strumming of chorus
 Have students play whole song together – only strumming
 Teaching melody and lyrics – Have students listen first while I sing
 Sing and strum whole song together

o Modifications/Accommodations: Have students play easier version of chords –


C7, G7, and Fadd9
o Formative Assessment: Students can successfully strum and sing “I’m Yours”?
Are students able to change chords on time without stopping? Is the strumming
tone clear and warm?
o Instructional Strategy: Break students up to work on song together. Have each
student check with partners that they are using the correct chords and strumming
pattern.

Concluding Activity/Success Experience:


 Sing whole song together with strumming on ukulele
 Ask students for names of other songs they may be interested in learning to play on
Ukulele

Extensions:
 Learn other pop songs such as “Hallelujah”, or “Hey, Soul Sister”

Summative Assessments:

Playing test of C major scale and plucking “Alice the Camel”


Final Concert performance of “I’m Yours”
