● After exploring the website for 4-5 minutes, answer the following questions on a piece of
scrap paper:
○ What is the purpose of this Web site?
○ What does it do?
○ Why was it created?
○ Do you ever give back? If so, in what ways do you do so?
● Use the dictionary (https://www.ldoceonline.com/) to find the meaning of the phrasal
verbs in the Phrasal Verb Vocabulary List.
● Besides donating money, think of different ways that people “give back.”
● Write down as many examples you can think of in 3 minutes on your Making
Predictions Worksheet.
● Read the article “The Secret to Happiness is Helping Others”: http://time.com/collection-
post/4070299/secret-to-happiness/ and count how many examples of “giving back” are
in the article.
● Look at your list on your Prediction Worksheet and count how many you had in common
with the article.
○ Did any of the ways to give back in the article surprise you? Which ones?
○ According to your predictions and what you read in the Time article, do you give
back more or less than you thought?
● Combine your skills! Write 5 unique sentences using the example scenarios that you
predicted and a phrasal verb in each sentence.
● Submit the 5 sentences via the LMS.

Assessment:
Students will submit 5 sentences in which they demonstrate the ability to combine language
skills with ideas presented in the lesson. Submission to be made via LMS. Each sentence can
be graded out of a total three points, using the following grading scheme: one point for proper
context, one point for the correctly-used phrasal verb, one point for appropriate mechanics
(spelling, grammar, etc) for their learning level for a total of 15 points.
