Flexible Fiber Management

The integrated fiber tray organizer inside each closure have many features:

• Storage area for loose tube cable, microstructure cable or for express
cables (un-cut)
• Hinged splice trays easily snap into place
• Large cable guide channels on each side of the integrated splice tray

Wide range of fiber splice trays

The different models of splice trays available for the
3M™ Fiber Closures BPEO can accommodate various styles of splices.
• Heat shrink fusion splice protectors in single or double stacking
• 3M™ Fibrlok™ Splices 2540G or 2529.
• 3M™ Planar Light Circuit (PLC) Splitters

These trays have separate zones for both the splitter and for different
splice types.

Easy opening and closing

The mechanical latch is quick and easy to open and close without the need
for any specialized tooling.

The built in seals of the BPEO in conjunction with the latch mechanism
ensure that the seal remains watertight even after frequent use. The sealing
gasket requires no replacement even after several open/close operations.

3M™ External Cable Assembly Modules (ECAMs)

The cable entry system is a 100% mechanical system that does not
require the use of heat or electrical power. No special tools are required
to complete either the single cable or dual cable assemblies. The ECAM
system has been designed to enable cables to be prepared and sealed
before the cable is installed in the closure. This feature avoids working on
the cable inside the closure close to fibers that are already in use, reducing
the possibility of failures. It is also particularly useful when attaching the
cables with strength members.

3M™ Fiber Closure BPEO Size 0

The 3M™ Fiber Closure BPEO Size 0 closure has been specifically designed
for FTTH customer connections.
 
Its small size is ideal for use within all types of manholes, even the smallest
ones. With 14 outputs (12 drop cables and 2 branch cables), this size 3M
BPEO offers a very flexible FTTH terminal configuration.
 
3M BPEO Size 0 can also be used within additional distribution applications
for example, aerial mounted on a pole, facade networks or in areas with
critical environmental conditions.
 
Connections to individual customers can be achieved on an as required
basis, without specific tooling thanks to the 3M BPEO range of ECAM
mechanical cable entries. The ECAMs have the benefit of improved
operational conditions based on external preparation of the cable seal away
from the closure assembly.

All 3M BPEO closures are delivered an integrated valve to enable a flash

test in the field.

Cable Entry Configurations

3M™ Fiber Closure BPEO Size 0 is equipped with different size cable entry
ports depending on the size of cables to be used. The description of
the cable entry kit indicates the diameter of the cables that can be
accommodated within each 3M™ External Cable Assembly Module
(ECAM) and within the closure port in the base.

Single Entry ECAMs are pre-fixed with the letter ‘S’ followed by
an indication for the maximum diameter of cable.

Uncut Cable Entry ECAMs are pre-fixed with the letter ‘D’ followed
by an indication for the maximum diameter of cable.

3M™ Fiber Closure BPEO Size 1

The 3M™ Fiber Closure BPEO Size 1 organizer can be
equipped with up to 12 splice trays if the closure is being
used with standard microstructure cables in midspan
applications. Alternatively if loose tube cables are to
be used in a midspan application then the splice tray
capacity is eight.

The maximum capacity of the organizer is 72 mechanical

3M™ Fibrlok™ Splices or 144 fusion splices located within
12 trays.

The BPEO Size 1 comes with a 12 slot organizer, tube

structure clamps and installation tool and a fiber bridge
guide. The fiber bridge guide is used to route individual
output or unused fibers from one splice tray into the tray
input of another splice tray in the organizer.

Cable Entry Configurations

The 3M BPEO Size 1 is available in different models depending on Single port for ECAM S18

3M™ Fiber Closure BPEO Size 1.5

The 3M™ Fiber Closure BPEO Size 1.5 is equipped with
a tray organizer that enables management of loose
tube midspan feeder cables while still offering the
capacity for 144 fusion splices. This closure offers the
same footprint as the 3M BPEO Size 1 and uses the
same mounting accessories.

Two versions of the 3M BPEO Size 1 are available,

offering either 25 ports for less than 7 mm round drop
cable or 13 ports for less than 9.5 mm round drop
cable. Each of the two configurations has ports for
S1.5 Branch two branch cables.

3M™ Fiber Closures BPEO Size 2 and
Size 3 are high capacity closures
designed for use within the trunk and
feeder segments of a fiber network.
The organizer in a 3M BPEO Size
2 closure can accommodate up
to 28 splice trays (5 mm). It
has a typical capacity of 336
fusion splices when using the
standard density 5 mm tray. This
amount can double when using
G.657D fiber and the high density
5 mm tray.

The 3M BPEO Size 3 organizer

contains 48 slot positions for splice
trays (5 mm). It has a typical capacity of
576 fusion splices when using the standard
density 5 mm tray. This amount can double
when using G.657 fiber and the high density
5 mm tray. Both closure sizes are watertight and can be
pressurized for applications in all environments and mounting
locations either buried, within a manhole, on the wall or on a pole.

3M™ BPEO Splice Trays Selection Guide

The type of splice technology used (fusion or mechanical) and whether 3M™ Planar Light Circuit (PLC)
Splitters are required will help determine which 3M™ BPEO Splice Tray should be selected.

3M™ Compact Trays are 5 mm in height and occupy one slot in the fiber organizer. 3M™ Standard Trays
are 10 mm in height and occupy two slots.

All 3M BPEO Splice Trays accept heat shrink fusion splice protectors of 2.4 mm O x 45 mm or
2.4 mm x 60 mm (after shrinkage).

For example, a 3M Fiber Closure BPEO Size 1 is equipped with a 12-slot fiber organizer. If using a 5 mm
