ARTIFACT: Evaluating Emerging Technology

The Evaluating Emerging Technology artifact was completed in the ITEC 7445 Multimedia and
Web Design in Education course. This artifact was developed to dissect the components that are
necessary to consider when selecting instructional technology tools to implement in schools
and/or districts. This artifact highlights how Insert Learning can support Liberty Point
Elementary’s (LPES) goals with improving engagement for mathematics, science, and literacy
proficiency. While the development of the Evaluating Emerging Technology artifact was done
independently, the details of the artifact were supported through collaborating with the
instructional coaches, CST, and classroom teachers.

The Evaluating Emerging Technology artifact showcases my ability to collaborate with teachers
and other stakeholders in order to select and evaluate appropriate instructional technology tools
to support instructional needs. Accuracy, suitability, and compatibility are addressed as it
aligns with LPES’ technology infrastructure and supports their vision for technology within the
school district. Insert Learning is a Google Chrome extension used to add interactivity within
websites. This extension is compatible with LPES’ current digital tools and technical support is
available within the school district. This artifact showcased how Insert Learning aligned with
visionary leadership, teaching, learning, and assessment, digital learning environments, digital
citizenship and responsibility, professional learning and program evaluation, and professional
growth and development standards.

Completing the Evaluating Emerging Technology allowed me to learn how aligning the goals
and needs of a school can lend itself to making financial decisions that support teaching and
learning. This artifact also exposed me the planning that is necessary to appropriately support the
implementation of new tools. Although this artifact provided a stronger understanding of the
intricacies needed to make such decisions, I would have appreciated connecting with district and
school level administrators to compare their planning processes and procedures. I would also
appreciate the opportunity to see Insert Learning considered as an integral instructional tool to
use with students.

Although this artifact features plans that directly align with instructional and technology
integration goals at LPES, I was not able implement it to take note of its full benefits. Hopefully
in the future, there will be opportunities to share this artifact with individuals at the
district/school administrative level to showcase Insert Learning’s benefits for teachers and
students. Once the tool is appropriately implemented, noting its impact on school improvement,
faculty development, and student learning will be more measurable.
