Plate Boundaries Drawings

The document provides instructions for drawing 5 diagrams of different plate boundary types: divergent boundary, transform fault boundary, and the 3 types of convergent boundaries (ocean-ocean, ocean-continent, continent-continent). For each diagram, students should label key features like plates, trenches, ridges, and arrows showing plate movement. Locations of each boundary type should also be included. An optional 6th diagram on hot spot volcanism is suggested for extra credit.

Plate Boundaries Drawings

“The greatest discoveries have come from people who have looked at a standard situation and seen it differently.” – Ira Erwin

The purpose of this activity is to make a visual description of the 3 types of plate boundaries:
transform fault, divergent, and convergent. In addition, you will be making a drawing of each of
the 3 types of convergent boundaries.

Directions: You will be making a total of 5 cross-sectional drawings. You will draw a divergent
and a transform fault boundary as well as the 3 types of convergent boundaries. Your
drawings will be done in Notability.

For each of your drawings you will:

1. Label each boundary.
2. Include and label the various landforms that are created, oceanic and continental
plates when appropriate, subduction zones, trenches, rift valleys, lithosphere,
asthenosphere, and magma. SEE BELOW FOR THE FULL LIST OF REQUIRED
LABELS
3. List places where each of these are found.
4. Include arrows showing the direction of plate movement.
5. Be neat, accurate, and colorful!

EXTRA CREDIT: Draw a picture of a Hot Spot forming a series of volcanoes as your 6th picture for extra
pts.
