Decile: To Find Its Decile Position Use This Formula: No. of Data

A decile is a statistical method used to split a ranked data set into 10 equally sized groups. It divides the distribution into 10 parts by finding the 9 score points that separate the data into 10 equal portions. For ungrouped data, deciles are calculated from the original values, while for grouped data, deciles represent the boundaries that divide the total frequency into 10 equal groups.

DECILE

 A Decile is a Quantitative Method of splitting up a set of ranked data into 10 equally large
subsections.
 The nine score points divided a distribution into ten equal parts.

THE DECILES FOR UNGROUP DATA

 Is the data you first gather from an experiment or study

Example:
Find the 7th Decile 0r D7 of the following test scores of a random sample of 10 students.

36, 43, 41, 29, 16, 24 ,34, 21, 19 and 29

SOLUTION:
First. Arrange the scores in ascending order.

Ascending order
16, 19, 21, 24, 29, 29, 34, 36, 41, 43,

To find its decile position use this formula: no. of data

THE DECILES FOR GROUP DATA

 are those values of the distribution that divided

total frequency to ten groups.

Where:

LB = lower boundary of the Dk class.

N = total frequency

Cfb = cumulative frequency before

i = size of class interval

K = nth decile where n = 1, 2, 3, …….
