Welcome to the Module Draft and Cut pattern of Casual Apparel (Blouse).
This module contains training materials and activities for you to complete.

The unit of competency “Draft and Cut Pattern Of Casual Apparel


(blouse)” contains knowledge, skills and attitudes required for a Dress Making NC
II course.

Measuring tools needed in taking client’s body


measurement.

1. Tape measure

Tape measures that were intended for use in tailoring or dressmaking were
made from flexible cloth or plastic. They are named "sewing tape". These types of
tape measures were mainly used for the measuring of the human's waist line.
Today, measuring tapes made for sewing are made of fiberglass, which does not
tear or stretch as easily.

2. Sewing gauge – a small ruler with a sliding guide and is about six inches
long. This gauge used for measurements at hem line.

3. Ruler- This see-through ruler is a must for any seamstress

o Parallel slots for precision markings from 1/4" to 2-5/8"


o Measure and mark exact locations for buttons, buttonholes, pockets, etc.
o Simplify pattern alterations
o Measure straight of grain from selvage
o Guide tracing wheel and pencil markings
o Measure and mark spacing for pleats and tucks
o Measure and mark bias strips

o Mark guide lines for decorative stitching

4. Yard stick-is made up of smooth, shellacked hard wood or metal. It is


used for marking hemlines and checking grain lines when laying out
pattern

The horizontal measurement is taken from the left of the figure to the right.

shoulder

Shoulder. Measurement is taken from the tip of the left shoulder to the tip of
the right shoulder, arching slightly to cover the cervical prominence of the neck
bone.

bust point

Bust point width. Measurement is taken across from the tip of the left bust
point to the tip of the right bust point.

The circumferential measurement is taken around the body.

bust

Bust. Measurement is taken around the bust with the tape measure
running on the same level in front, at the back and on the sides.

The vertical measurement is taken from the top of the body figure to its base.

Most crochet and knitting pattern instructions will provide general sizing
information, such as the chest or bust measurements of a completed garment.
Many patterns also include detailed schematics or line drawings. These
drawings show specific garment measurements (bust/chest, neckline, back,
waist, sleeve length, etc.) in all the different pattern sizes. To insure proper fit,
always review all of the sizing information provided in a pattern before you
begin.

Very-close fitting: Actual chest/bust measurement or less


Close-fitting: 1–2"/2.5–5cm
Standard-fitting: 2–4"/5–10cm
4–6"/10–15cm
Loose-fitting:
Oversized: 6"/15cm or more
